View Full Version : Charlotte Bobcats at Toronto Raptors 12/30

The last game of the calendar year tonight in Canada, aye? I've always wondered how the Raptors players and staff feel. Like the GM Brian Colangello. "Nah, no thanks. I mean Phoenix is nice and all but I'd rather spend some time up in Canada. You know, where basketball was invented!" Our old buddy Matt Devlin went up there after he was let go by the Bobcats.
Anyway, as for tonight. Tyson Chandler, still out.
The Raptors are not happy, they're hot, coming in with 4 straight wins and we smoked them 116 - 81 in Charlotte. Big difference between this team at home and away, in the win column at least.
Toronto Sun: http://www.torontosun.com/sports/basketball/2009/12/30/12299816-sun.html
Toronto Star: http://www.thestar.com/sports/basketball/nba/raptors/article/743982--raptors-sharpening-their-talons
And, love the Observer: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/bobcats/story/1150530.html
Rick did put forth some effort on this story about Stephen Jackson and his proclivity for Technical fouls lately: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/rickbonnell/story/1150528.html
Jack has been feeling what I like to call "Being a Bobcat" from the referees lately. It sucks and probably has taken years off of Bernie Bickerstaff and my lifetimes but the refs don't respect a team with no all-stars and no national tv exposure.
So, will we make it 2-14 on the road tonight?

Why shouldn't they? We're 1-897 on the road (or something like that). Here's hoping the guys at least give a good effort tonight. I think if they do that; they have a great chance for a win.
Hopefully we'll see a lot of Henderson and UPS too; sure.

That's why they're the Raptards. Unfortunately, not feeling too hopeful about this one. Toronto has been playing really well and we're soo bad on the road that I have all road games chalked up as "L's" until they prove otherwise.
Bosh is going to be problems for Crash/Boris/Naz and I don't think Boris/Naz/Diop can contain Bargnani. Jacksum and Felts are going to be key.

Last game Bosh didn't score but like 2 points the 1st half and TC had 6 blocks. Let's see what his replacements do tonight.

Effort is what I'm looking at tonight. I'm grading everyone on effort alone. If I see it and we're in the game going into the 4th then I'll pay attention to execution from that point. If anyone heard Gerald's comments ("It's about what we do, not the Raptors") after the Bucks win I think he was speaking on our effort on the road as well. What are the chances Boris bust his ass for the team tonight?

LB needs to use his bench if we are going to have a chance tonight. Bosh is a beast and the refs seem to love him. Diop will see alot of playing time tonight. I really hope Diaw is not guarding Bosh. Graham has a chance to have a good night. I'm calling it early...Boris Diaw gets 20points tonight.

Bobcats have the bobbles. Stephen Jackson bobbles one and they give Raymond another turnover. Stephen hits Brown in the hands and he bobbles it out of bounds. We have too many turnovers. Raymond is charged with 3 but should be charged with 1.

What the hell are you thinking LB, why put on sub-par players for long minutes. Who cares if they're starters, put the ones who are actually playing hard and well for you.
Felton tried hard, as did Jax but far too many turnovers.
Also, I really would of liked TC back to guard Bosh. Yes, I'm saying it but I believe TC would of held down either Bosh or Barg better.

Hey, I've been saying all along Boris' play (or lack thereof) is what's killing us. In this one however LB didn't play any bigs here at the end.
And the freaking TOs. That's gotta stop and quick. I know Felton was attributed with a couple that probably wasn't his, but still he's got to take better care of the ball. So far as Jax...I think LB needs to start selectively sitting his ass when he strings 2 or 3 dumbass plays together in a row.

No doubt Larry's substitution patterns are lacking on many a night. If Diaw plays well though I can see us winning this one in spite of that. Also it would have been nice to see TC in this game to see how he matched up.
It is easy to say trade Diaw, Diop, Murray, TC or Graham but since they are garbage is doubtful the Bobcats brass can get rid of them. Not without losing somebody like Crash or Stephen Jackson. What we would get in return would probably not make us any better and may make us worse.

Didn't see the game as I had to take care of some family issues, but why the heck a true big man only played 26 minutes for us befuddles me. Seriously LB? With them, it makes more sense to play Diop and Naz TOGETHER!

Why did we leave the Italian Stallion? He was killing us all night and we give him an open look at the 3. Puzzles me, at that point in the game a 3 basically wins the game for them. Wonder what the conversation was in the timeout. By Jackson's reaction to the made 3 my guess would be they were told not to leave him.
Pregame conversation by the Bobcat players.....
"Hey guys we have lost in many ways on the road this year. How about we shoot very well from the floor tonight, but turn the ball over so many times we ultimately kill our chances of winning??? Win on 3. 1!, 2!, 3! WIN!!!"

What the hell does that mean? If he's hitting those shots, his game's not nearly as bad as what it's been, and we're obviously a better team for it.
And note, I said my BIGGEST, not only. TC hasn't done crap for us, so obviously I'm going to get after him; especially considering we traded Okafor for him, people (like you) said he would help us more than Okafor could, and he's our highest paid player.

With the way Boris is playing I can't say that about Tyson. He has had games this year when he did exactly what I expect him to do.

Didn't see the game as I had to take care of some family issues, but why the heck a true big man only played 26 minutes for us befuddles me. Seriously LB? With them, it makes more sense to play Diop and Naz TOGETHER!
Ugh. We'll figure this out at somepoint, or the players will go Sam Vincent on LB's ass.
Diop and Nazr together:hysterical::hysterical: would have made us even worse.I would have liked to have seen TC in the game as much as or don't think much at all, i know he would have helped us take this one.He still sucks overall but against the Raps his presence was definitely missed

Can we chalk this up as a slump for Boris? If so, how long do we wait for him to recover?

Now, I haven't seen them all, but for my money, this was the worst-officiated game for the Cats this season. I mean gottdamm Bellineli was getting calls that GW and Jack weren't getting?!?!?! Not to mention the fact that every time he or his Italian compatriot Bargnani took steps every time they put the ball on the floor yet never ONCE was called for the travel.......whatever.
But of course, the TOs were once again the story. It's just getting ridiculous how little they value the ball. Lazy pass after lazy pass after lazy pass. This is one of the worst defenses in the league, a weak team that doesn't LIKE to play d, yet the Cats either overpassing, or dribbling the air out of the ball on the perimeter, or just making errant passes when pick 'n rolls, backdoor cuts, and dribble drives would carve the Raptors to pieces. But 21 damn TOs. Heaven help me.
Also, once again, the ineffective, TO prone Meow getting massive minutes and getting taken advantage of in any matchup on the defensive end and doing nothing to facilitate the offense. I remember Derrick getting decent minutes and productive ones at that during the blowout win at home against TOR, yet he gets a minute or two tonight and that's it. And even in that time he got more offensive rebounds than Meow. I just don't get it. I understand the results of it: losses; I just don't understand the logic in it.
Nor do I understand the logic in going with the small lineup towards the end of the game, having GW guard Bosh? Especially with Nazr and Gana putting together a really good first half, yet they're MIA in the second. All this shit's just blowing my mind and pretty fucking sick and tired of it.
I've decided on a compromise. Instead of an all out moratorium on watching Bobcats games, it's just going to be road games. I mean, what's the point anyway, it's not like they'll every win, so it'll save me that much grief/torture from having to watch them tease me only to wilt away at the end. Oh well, maybe someday they'll figure it out...

This is courtesy of "Sandy" in the comments section of Bonnell's article on the game:
Again, too much small ball. Why didn't Nazr or Diop play at all in the last quarter? The Bobcats dominated the boards for 3 quarters (28-20); then, comes the small ball of the last quarter, and with it, the Raptors take control of the rebounds: 16-7 in this quarter! That wasn't a way to win this game. Even if our centers didn't take a lot of rebounds in the few minutes they were allowed on the floor, it's just the presence and positioning of the big men that often facilitates rebounding by the smaller guys.
I never knew LB as a small ball coach, but this season he's using and overusing small line-ups, creating mismatches that other teams are capable of exploiting. Small ball, with its extra quickness, will win some games; not a lot of them, I'm afraid.
Even with the TOs we could have won this game.

Yup, the Raps were shooting right over us.
I'm beginning to suspect sabotage, which when translated from French, means "Boris Diaw". EZ Bo is pulling this season into le crapps.
Seriously, did you SEE his passes!? Ack du libre!

Speaking of Boris' ineptitude (and this goes for the Bucks game btw), I saw him getting chewed out by other guys at least 5 times. One time down, Jack was seriously getting in his shit for watching on offense and Boris just had this look of "whatever" on his face like little kids do when they roll their eyes--You parents should know what I'm talking about. Anyway, Jack kept busting his shit and Boris finally said (in a sarcastic tone), "My bad then."
I'm beginning to think Boris can't handle the pressure. Last year we didn't really have guys that would get on your shit. Now, Ray and Crash are becoming more vocal and Jack has come to town, who expects 100%.
So Boris isn't getting the baby treatment like he's used to and he's getting chewed out for going weak. He's soft. He's a pussy. He's a grown ass man and he needs to toughen up before we send Jack after his ass in some dark alley.
