First Home game of the New Year! Man it'll be nice to get back to the arena after all the holiday, family, work party crap! The Chicago Bulls roll, actually, they fly into the Queen City off of a loss to the Thunder last night. The Bulls had a 4 game winning streak rolling after that huge collapse against Sacramento. I'd never heard of such a thing, everyone was talking about it and I hadn't seen sportscenter or anything so I naturally assumed it was Sacramento stumbling.

The Chicago Tribune heralded the Bulls as working in the right direction with Ty Thomas coming back and a shuffle of starting lineups. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/chi-02-bulls-chicago-jan02,0,4555625.story

It will be an interesting game, as good as the Bobcats are at home, and their own 2 game ROAD (holy crap, road wins!) winning streak, the Bulls are like looking in a mirror. Each team 14-18 and each team with only 3 road victories. The math points to the Bobcats but we shall see tonight!

I'm going tonight, hoping the scalpers are good to me. Anyone else heading out? If you hear people giving Luol Deng shit everytime he touches the ball, that's me and my friends - will be pretty loud.

I really want to beat these guys and we should. They just lost last night to OKC where they folded in the 3rd quarter and they suck just like we have on the road.

My main concern is help D in the paint on Rose. They're going pick Felton off at the top with Noah and that's going to make Nazr & Gana have to deal with him (like Mek did last year...remember when he blocked Rose like 3 times?). If we can somewhat contain that I think everything else will take care of itself.

Doors open at 6 pm (5:30 if you have season tickets).

There's usually some players shooting around early (like between 6 and 6:20, but the teams come out on the court for real just a little past 6:40.

I'm interested to see how Nazr / Gana handle Noah's energy. The guy plays all out.

You do know Boris has 3 blocks, 4 boards and 4 assists with no TOs. I think he's done pretty well so far. Couple of farts, but they've all had a couple else we'd be up by 20.

Disappointed we let them get it back to 7. We need to come back strong and push that back up.

Dag Crash almost got killed. Pass could have been a little closer to the goal, but I think he'd have gotten undercut regardless.

Our strategy on D this entire game has been switching off the pick. It's let a lot of paint points, but for the most part I think it's faired pretty well considering.

tic tac toe 3 wins in a row!

Im glad we pulled it out. Sure we gave up a late game lead, but we do that a lot. The fact we did not go into complete self destruct mode like we usualy do when we lose a lead is what really made me happy. We fought on until the end and our defense came through in the clutch.

Ghost Kat

That was a big win for the Cats.....Good job holding on in the 4th. The bench did thier jobs in what little time LB used them. Diaw needs to be traded, If he's not looking to score he needs to ride the pine. But his gay ass probably does that anyway. Wallace once again is a beast

ohara831
01-05-2010, 09:41 PM
This is the type of game, close in the 4th and we are about to give up the lead, where the Cats would have choked it away in the past. But there is a toughness about them now, and we have a few scorers who can get a tough bucket. We have turned a major corner as a team. We are not elite by any sense of the word. But we are a good team.

BobcatsAllDay
01-05-2010, 09:42 PM
I think we can learn a lot from this win b/c we had some miscues tonight and didn't put this team away when the opportunity was there. On the other hand Chicago put up a good fight and they're not playing like a team who has a coach on the hot seat. Clutch FTs by Ray and Jack. Another tough one coming up. Lets GO CATS!!!!

Agreed.

When Rose started going ape shit in the 3rd I thought it would have been a good move to bring Gana in and tell him not to chase the guy setting the screen out to the arc but instead to stay at home in the paint. It's not like Rose has 3pt range on his J any way.

Then make Rose drive right into the heart of Gana's shot blocking and see if he could get away with those drives.

I'd rather send Rose to the line 5 times and Gana pick up 5 fouls than Rose pick up 10 easy points like he did.

The lane was way too open for him.

Slam
01-05-2010, 10:32 PM
In saying that, the PG defending him (mainly DJ) should KNOW that Rose is no shooter and would rather drive so he should have been going to the back side of the screen - not trying to go over it or through it and just getting hung up on it allowing Rose the 1st step.

Rose was unstopable tonight. Big win for us. There was one posession where Rose got by his guy and came down the lane and met Wallace right at the rim. I was sure Wallace was going to block him but Rose faked him out and scored easily. When you can fake a bigger guy out after you are already up in the air and still hit a lay up that is pretty special. I doubt Oak would have helped that much.

Big win for us though, I was hoping to win by 30 but we can do that next time. Go Bobcats!

Sweetness. Well, something has to be said for the growth of this team because even though the Bulls tied it late, I never feared for the outcome of the game. I suppose it's that swagger that Bonnell talked about in a recent article that Jack and Flip bring to the team, but it includes Raymond and GW as well. For whatever reason, most obviously at home, I feel these guys will get it done if it's close late.....and they have.

Larry bringing in the small backcourt of DJ/Raymond late in the 4th nearly cost the game, but the guys exerted their will and got intimate with pressure again and ta-dah....WIN! Special stuff, kids, special stuff.

Man - got tix from the scalpers for five Bucks. We looked incredible in the first - Rose was contained well.. DJ & the rest kept letting him hit that layup on the right side - I really wish Hendo could have played, he has the size and athletic ability to shut D. Rose down.

The fans in my section were all trashing Boris. Felt good to not be alone. Lotta drunks tonight. We were ripping the Bulls verbally, kept making fun of Noah's ugly face, Rose's academic record, Salmons beard & Deng's softness. Great night!

spectre
01-06-2010, 05:41 AM
On DJ v Rose I think the main thing was DJ was playing him too closely above Noah's pick. Rose was able to beat him before the pick got there and then all he had to do was get by Nazr. Felton had slightly more success staying back, waiting for the pick and assuming he was going to drive around it instead of shoot.

The counter that worked was putting Crash on Noah when he set that pick. We knew Rose wasn't giving it up, so Felton stayed on Noah and Crash then took Rose...which usually stopped him and made him give up the ball. It left guys open (Salmons for that 3) but luckily they choked.

I know those 8 quick points looked bad, but I think if DJ had stayed back a little bit it would have worked a little better. He'll learn. As Slam says you have to know your opponent and what he will/won't do.

That's what it looked like viewing it the one time anyway. Times like this DVR would be very handy.

Rose is damn fast and he's pretty sick at finishing. Figures the Bulls would luck into him.

Keetch

Spot on. Rose doesn't shoot well and the Bulls lose easily if he can be forced into jump shots. Not an easy thing to do against a very talented No. 1 draft pick; but we sure could have done better.

Some things that come to mind during these recent games:

Diaw has stopped trying to force passes into traffic inside the paint and so causing fewer exasperating turnovers. He's limiting himself to passing out of the paint, setting screens and moving the ball around the perimeter. That's helped.

Maybe the coaches are finally getting through to him.

Saying that; its amazing how he can pass up so many opportunities for shots in the paint. He simply refuses to go to the rim. If he can't find a way to flip up a hook; its not going up. It's kind of bizarre to watch.

Flip Murray can be an asset on any given night; but long-term, I don't trust him. Smarter defenses can turn him over too easily.

Gana Diop has returned to play effective minutes. I guess the coaches are working on him and its helping.

Nazr on the other hand is looking slower each game.

How much Jax's game has helped Felton, I don't know. But, after a horrible start, Raymond has found a stability on the court that he's never before had. Even though he forced a few shots late in this game; his shooting percentage, defense and overall control of the game is much, much better. That's exactly what we've been hoping for.

spectre
01-06-2010, 05:49 AM
I was a little disappointed in Felton's game last night, mainly in the 2nd half. Not really defensively, but he seemed a little "off" offensively. Thing is a disappointing stretch from him now vs. a few months ago/last few years is a helluva lot better. Lots easier to live with.

Jax was a very good signing for him and for us.

Oh.. ok... If you all hate Boris at this point I just hope that he will be traded, but it will be sad for me. But it seems like LB see that Boris work for the team and like his game.
