If he is released by the Nets we have to go after this guy. I think we still have a roster spot and we tried to trade for him last season (Matt Carroll for Trenton Hassell and him). He is the backup four we need and he can defend the rim while Tyson is gone.

I would love to see Sean on the 'Cats. He'd be a better version of Ryan Hollins.

This is what we need!

Stephen Jackson, Gerald Wallace, and Larry Brown would keep him from acting crazy (ie throwing computer monitors in cell phone stores at 2 in the morning) and he would fit into our needs perfectly (scrappy guy, can get up with the best of them, plays almost exclusivly in the paint).

If we get him, Diaw will get his minutes cut by about 10-15 minutes, and that should give Boris a role i think we are all happy with; he would still be getting the exact same numbers but wouldnt be stinking up the court for the additonal time.

First thought: Stephen would keep someone OUT of trouble?

Second thought: Why the hell is a cell phone store open at 2 a.m. :g:

Both good points.

Seems to me, Jax would be the one throwing the monitor for Sean Williams as he "protects" his teammate from the late-night cellphone store clerk who dissed him.

...and why do we want a headcase...I mean really...and is Sean Williams a Bobcat...no...why the heck is he in the Bobcats thread instead of the "around the NBA thread"...? Oh, because he is a headcase...

They need to go after him, go head and get this done. He could turn out to be a huge pick up for us.

It's in Bobcats talk as a discussion for signing him, just like AI.

And while LB has his multitude of faults (kudos to him for finally calling a TO tonight after the Mayo 3), he is a great coach when it comes to headcases. AI and Sheed most notably, but others too. And now Jack. For the minimum, pro-rated, I think this is a great idea. At somepoint the "nice-guy" approach has to stop, and I think the Jack trade shows that might be happening.

Does he actually get cut on monday when the trade with dallas is approved or did he get cut today?

From everything I've seen he will be cut before the trade becomes official.

Teej...I have the utmost respect (and I hope you know that) but here are headcases and there are "headcases"...and frankly in the "headcases" category (where I place Sean Williams) I think you give LB way too much credit...(see Meow as a case study)...

AI and 'Sheed had the BB skills to back up their headcase status...I seriously doubt Sean Williams fits that bill...

Boris has played for multiple solid coaches, and none have been able to fix him. I don't see anyone fixing his attitude, period.

But you look at Sheed, AI, Jackson, etc, they play better and more in control with LB than they do/did elsewhere. He elevates their game. They also had the BBIQ and regular IQ as well.

I'll freely admit I don't know much about Williams, but he has shown lots of skill, he just hasn't been given any decent PT, and even in limited time he's been helpful (which is exactly what we need). The problem with Williams is he has untapped potential, and I think being a defensive stopper in a defensive system would help him a lot, and get us a bigman we so desperately need.

Side Note: Did anyone know Stephen Jackson was a Malcolm Gladwell fan?

Teej...if you are asking if I think he is worth (what) the rest of the season...well ok...maybe...why not...but do not kid yourself...Sean Williams (like Meow) is in the tease "headcase" category...I'd never waste real money (or time for that matter) on him...and I still think you give LB way too much credit for these kind of guys....

...and yes I warned everyone about "Meow" when we made the trade...and who listened...don't waste your time on Sean Williams...the dude will break your heart...he is such a tease...

Of course you don't give him real money, especially considering the cap situation, but for this season he's the perfect guy at that price.

Opposing opinion: I'd rather not waste the roster spot on a guy I doubt LB will ever play...at this point I'd rather trade Law/Hulk for a vet that LB would give some time to and maybe push "Meow"...Sean Williams (IMO) does not fit the bill...and...

I doubt LB is here after this year...Sean Williams is a long-term "headcase" turnaround project...at this point I see him as wasted space...

I will take a pass..... If he was so good he would already be tearing it up for somebody else.

Maybe we could turn him around and have a Birdman story on our hands.

This is my question:

Is the worst case scenario that Williams simply can't contribute or does he become a distraction?

If he simply doesn't contribute, he might be worth a shot. However, we can't handle distractions right now. Our team is just starting to figure things out and every game is crucial. I'd rather find a guy who has less ceiling but will fit the locker room and team dynamic better.

good find slam...and most of us know how the NBADL (to improve) time worked for him...

Absolutely, we need to get him. The guy has it, I think he just needs PT and confidence... But honestly, he's kind of like a more aggressive post-inclined Derrick Brown. But, that's a good thing. I made a thread about him like a year or so ago during the offseason, may have been 2 years ago... When the Nets reportedly offered us the 17th pick for Sean May.

We really need to sign him up as soon as he becomes available. He could be the missing piece.

Nets Trade Pending Prokhorov's Sign-Off?
Posted: 1/10/2010 7:13:00 AM
Source: Dave D'Alessandro of the Star-Ledger

Eduardo Najera arrived in New Jersey as the Nets’ top free-agent acquisition in the summer of 2008, and because of a hideous run of injuries — including one that required surgery on his abdomen — he has played a grand total of 523 minutes.

Sean Williams was promoted as the steal of the 2007 draft, drifting all the way down to the Nets at No. 17 despite being the best athlete at his position. And in 2½ years, his dysfunctional marriage with NBA life has justified all those reasons he fell to No. 17 in the first place.

With one easy stroke, the Nets are going to erase those two glaring roster mistakes Sunday, when they send Najera to Dallas for Kris Humphries and waive Williams so they can acquire another lost soul with a familiar name, forward Shawne Williams.

Both moves were nearing completion Saturday, but according to someone close to the negotiations who is not authorized to speak on the moves, it had yet to get full sign-off from incoming Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov. That is expected to be a formality.

Combined with the Rafer Alston jettison Tuesday, this is essentially a cap-neutral deal, and just another step in the purge of 2009-10.

“I’m the type of player that can perform, obviously, on winning teams,” the 33-year-old forward said. “But obviously right now we need playmakers, and I’m not that type of guy. We need one-on-one guys and I’m not that type of guy. I’m the guy that’s going to keep his mouth shut, have a good attitude and always come to work when he’s healthy and try to help win ballgames.

“But obviously, I think (the trade) will be great for all of us.”

It will be especially good for Humphries, who will go from being the fourth big man in Dallas to the first big man off the bench with the Nets if they successfully move Josh Boone and Tony Battie, who are also being shopped.

Here is our best shot. We trade Acie Law for Humphries and Williams and ask for a pick or pay for taking Williams away from the Nets

Charlotte in Humphries and Williams, Nets in Acie Law and Mavs in Najera. The Nets don't really need Humphries or either make another deal with Boone and Battie for another forward. Mavs get what they want and everyone is happy. Being if Williams cuts up just waive him.

If you want to deal for Humphries just pick up the phone (Rod) and call Dallas before the Nets complete the deal...cut out the middle man...but my guess would be we have no interest in Humphries...

We might if he didn't have that 3 mil option next year.

BTW, I think worst case scenario is he doesn't play well. I don't see him being a distraction.

Maybe sean is a player that will get better if he developes some maturity. That doesn't always happen. Unless he has a really convincing attitude we should just save ourselves the trouble. He obviously doesn't have any fire in his belly to go along with his talent. He is like 3 guys behind boone in the rotation. LB doesn't have much patience for players who don't work hard so I don't think it could work.

i think we're idiots if we dont pick up williams. espicially because of the interest we had for him before, and the need at backup pf. the only way i see us not picking him up is if we plan on making a deal or something
