What do you think of Rufus as our mascot?

i was going to make a thread about how I hated him, but then i saw all of the other mascots, and realized it could be worse

what if anything would you change? i don't really like the glasses, or the orange, especially since orange is no longer a primary color

Thunder is definitely the coolest. Benny is pretty cool too, and I think Rufus is pretty cool.


I miss Hugo though....

I'm old school: give me Benny, the Coyote, and the Gorilla anyday everyday. Everybody else are pretenders. Of that "everybody else" however, the glasses are stupid but Rufus is personable and pretty cool all things considered without being an asshole. For some reason, I always disliked Hugo, even when I was a youngster and went to games I would intentionally avoid him, so he's an upgrade at least.

He was a lot of fun to watch.

I never knew how silly looking the mascots around the league are. No real creativity, these are Pro teams not Junior high mascots.

Well I like Rufus a lot, and so does my 9 yr old son. Last Christmas I got him the bobblehead Rufus off Ebay and it's still sitting on his night table beside the bed.

The shades are pretty dumb but Rufus is fine other than that. There are some really dumb mascots though.

Honestly I liked I Hornets mascot more than the Bobcat. The Hive was hype, Bobcats live alone in the woods. Maybe thats why theres no fan support.

Some of the Mascots make little to no sense when applied to the names of the teams. Then again some teams like the Blazers, Knicks and Nets would have a hard time matching up a mascot to the name.

The Mascots are all kind of silly but I think that the NBA chose them that way to make them fun for younger kids who come to the games. In that spirit I think the NBA did a good job. I do however think that some teams could have had mascots that matched the name of the team and still had them be kid friendly. The Nuggets could have had an Old minor with a fake gold nugget in hand. The Cavaliers could have had an actual Cavalier mascot that had a kid friendly appearance. The Kings could have had an actual King mascot and not used the King of The Jungle as such. Just a few examples.

In the long run none of that really matters because the Mascots are a small part of the NBA and as long as kids have fun it all works out just fine. :)
