View Full Version : The one guy who would be easy to get and would insure playoffs!

I am talking about a player who doesn't take up any minutes or shots and never needs the ball in his hands. Thats right I am talking about the 6th man, the crowd. The guy who, lets face it, rarely shows up for our team.
If the crowd was a player how much would he be worth. How many more wins could we get playing in front of a screaming crowd then an empty arena. You pay a player to help get wins right. Easily somewhere between the 2 mil we are giving flip and the 6 or so we are giving Diop I would think. His salary won't effect our tax or cap situation keep in mind.
It isn't like the masses would go home unhappy every night if we did find a way to pack the house. We have only lost 4 home games so far. The store has plenty of good product on the shelves but no one is walking through the doors. How good was that last second GW tip in. How much more special could that night have been with a monster crowd. How would it have affected ticket sales down the road.
If you have a nice sized club you have to get enough people inside to make it seem like a happening place.
I don't really blame the club. They new about the whole hornets debacle going in but also the economy. Ticket prices are pretty low. They are doing things most other nba clubs are doing. They have done a good job so far of getting players who don't potray a bad image. They have however failed to be creative enough to encourge enough customers to walk through the front door.
It is not enough to just wait for people to come. If the club wanted to spend a little money. If the front office wasn't afraid to get outside the box a little. What would it take to get people in the door? The people who would buy tickets down the line if the team is doing well. The people who have money and might spend it on the nba experience. This organization needs to ask how can we make the overall experience of coming to a basketball game better because in a tough economy the things that worked in the past may not be good enough.

I am a sixth man . And if you have seen one Bobcats production you have seen them all. Its no change at all . From the kiss cam ever game to the same song and the louder signs by rufus at the start of the fourth quarter. Damn i wish they would do somthing different to start the fourth for a change. They even send the free shirts to the same place ever game in the upper level . 212, 211 hasn't gaot a shirt all season while 210 and 215 gets shirts twice a game . Its that predictable. The product on the floor is good but do something with it. Change things up . How many half time shows are either the rythem cats or a junior Bobcats game . Its so bad i can tell whats next by watching the production lady.
playoffs...PLAYOFFS?

unfortunately, the sixth man doesn't travel with the team..we need to win some away games too to really seal the deal.

Exactly, how cool would it be to have a surprise real halftime show like lil wayne or somebody. Not every night, but spread the net wide get some people in and find a way to exceed expectations. It is not really that hard to build a fan base if some winning is involved.
We could find a lot of ways to make the experience of coming to the game better if the front office would put forth a little energy and be a bit creative. I am not talking about rent a player for your birthday like the nets tried to do. I am saying fix the PA guy. Make the food better. Find the little ways to improve that will enhance the quality of the show.

They should keep doing whats working.

A lot of that is pumping in artifical crowd noise over the PA system.
I still think 12 Minutes will be really awesome during the PLAYOFFS though!

you know what happens when the announcer stops shouting and the music stops thumping? SILENCE. there is not a peep in the arena. you can easily have a conversation on the phone... it is not a better alternative

dav, you know I love you man, but I gotta take exception to this. Being the Official Representative of 215 here at BCP, we've gotten ONE shirt all year....the Philly game. Rufus was using the Lowes "hammer" shooter thing, the one that goes the farthest, at it went sailing above my head landing in row T or so.
Sorry, just had to set the record straight and say we're as ignored as you guys!
It's our neighbors in 214 and 216 that get the bulk of them.

We could have ladycat jello-wrestling with rufus as the ref. and have anthony hamilton and jordan do a duet and be the guest judges.......just an idea lol

Staying in hunker down and get through it mode isn't going to make anything better for us. You have to spend a little money to make money. If there was a player out there we could get for a couple 3-4 mil that would give us 5 or 10 extra wins we would probably do it. Why not use that money in an effort to put buts in the seats. If we provide better fan support we will get an extra 5 or 10 wins easy plus we will be building a fanbase.

One day I will complete my new year's resolution to go see a Bobcats game live.
Until that day, I'll stay in my beloved Australia watching a lousy stream via youtube since they don't show Bobcats games over here (always Cleveland or Lakers)

Beagle i think you right about the sections . The sprite zone gets one ever game whatever section that is . Whats the problem of putting the louder thing at the start of the second half or the middle of the fourth. Just don't do ever thing at the same time ever game . I know money is not thair but we could still get creative at half time. How many games do we have to watch the rythem cats or a 10 year old basketball game.
Mabe some kind of dunk contest from the fans . Real dunks not the two year old rim .
The team is so straped it only has 10 ladycats weeknights . 15 on weekends . Ever game is the same thing all im saying is just mix things up . Tons of money don't have to be spent
Something like a contest for a second half upgrade . Production people need to get more creative .

im not going to shell out hundreds of dollars to sit in the lower bowl with the hope that lil wayne shows up... people who realistically will be spending that money wouldn't even want to hear lil' wayne. The bobcats once had pretty elaborate half time performers, costing around 10k a game. Who goes for the halftime show? Who goes to try and catch a fucking t shirt?... especially when the last t shirt i saw didnt even have a single bobcats logo on it. nice. its about the product on the court, you may not know this because your not from Charlotte, but people here are pretty superficial. It'll take the playoffs to sell out and itll take consistent playoffs to build a serious fan base. In the end they need the people for Charlotte, not the diehards like many on this bored from surrounding communities, to help support the team. Hiring lil wayne does nothing to do this (nor is it a reality, why the hell would lil wayne "surprise" 12,000 bobcats fans when he sells out 10x that for a single show?). Alright, gotta go to the game now.

Sadly 12,000 would be a good night most nights. I am just saying spice things up. Find a way to get people to show up through promotions discounts whatever. More then likely the product on the floor is going to be good at this point. If the front office could find a way to over deliver on the experience of coming to a game that is an even better promotion. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to get something rolling at this point.
Crowd looked good tonight. Almost 16k attendance.
