I have always liked Ray Allen and this makes me like him even more.

The only time I think a player should be allowed to go to an All Star game without having been an true All Star during the season is if the player has a great body of work throughout his or her career and they have announced they are retiring after the season. Otherwise fans should have a somewhat reduced role in the outcome of who starts in the NBA All Star game. Just my opinion.
Perhaps the NBA should make the NBA All star game more important. They could do like the MLB and have each conference battle in the All Star game to give their representative teams in the Finals the home court advantage. I agree that during the inner conference faze of the playoffs seeding is important but the Finals don't have to be about that.
Outside of the All Star issues I have an idea. If the NBA Finals home court team is not represented by the outcome of their conferences All Star victory then perhaps the home court should be decided by who has the the best outer conference record. Considering the strengths of each conference and the fact that chances are the two teams playing one another have either never played during the season or have played one another only twice the teams overall outer conference record should come into play.
Just a thought.
As far as the All Star voting goes I feel that if players like McGrady and Iverson are going to get votes solely based on past accomplishments then they should have an asterisk next to their All Star appearance for that season. Those times when a player is put in out of sympathy or favoritism should not be seen as a reason to send them to the Hall Of Fame. Though Allen Iverson is no doubt a sure fire HOF member in the future one can not say that realistically about TMac. How many All Star appearances is TMac or others like him going to get that they did not deserve based on some early to middle of their career seasons greatness? I just think that kind of thing is unfair.
The Bobcats have no doubt two players in Stephen Jackson and Crash who deserve to be All Stars. What if there are several seasons like this one where these kind of players on teams like the Bobcats get snubbed? Should not the reality that these players should have been All Stars get recognized? If the fans must be responsible for the All Star representatives than perhaps coaches, media and players should get a fair split in who should have been allowed to participate each season. Those players in turn would get a plus added by their names for that season. When making decisions for who gets into the HOF that plus would force those that decide to look closer at that players stats and seasons successes. Just an idea.
