so unexpected but at least we'll get some attention!!!
i hope he has a new bag of tricks ready since his last time in the dunk contest. i think it takes a lot to be able to beat the fan stardom that nate and shannon have right now. his 2002 tricks wont be good enough to win it, but it was good enough to get him runner up at least. maybe all those dunk contests that he held in practice with richardson and brown will come in handy now

Well this will surely make the dunk contest more interesting this year.
He should wear a G-Force Cape as he flies through the air for his dunks just to show the world that he has superhuman abilities.

3 things,
1- The dunk where he blew past the Akron Hammer that ESPN replayed a few hundred times...
2- His picture perfect form when he gets a break away dunk (picture related)
3- Jordan teasing him that "he should have left his left hand home" after he blew that dunk earlier this season getting him to make quite a few more two handed power dunks.

I'm really excited about this and i hope he comes out with some creative stuff. The dunk contest these days is more of which contestant puts on the best performance rather than who throws down the best dunk, but I think its better that way, the past few years have been very enjoyable.

Meh... I don't think he can come out with some creative stuff like in 2001. He clearly lost his hops

I think Shannon Brown runs away with the title this year. He is pretty short, so Nate wont have that midget advantage he gets. and Shannon Brown has some of the best/nastiest/meanest in game dunks of anyone in the league. I think he is gonna show out.
Gerald Wallace got hosed in 02 i thought, but he doesn't really stand a chance this year. He is the oldest guy there and the tallest. His dunks won't look as huge because he is going up against guys that are like 5'9 and 6'1. When those little guys get up it looks 15x more impressive than a windmill from Gerald ya know. You never know, he could bring the flash and surprise me.

I just noticed, he is the only forward in the contest.. all 4 of the others candidates are Guards... but DeRozan is the same size as he is so there is that.

One of the nastiest in game dunks this decade.

heck with wallace's amazing in game dunks...he might as well get a little 3v3 game runnin on the half court and use that as his "assisted dunk". i'm sure greg oden wouldn't mind lending himself to the court one more time

Cool. Wallace was nice in the 2002 contest but I don't know if he's capable of dunk contest type dunks anymore. He's still a ferocious game dunker and thats all I care about.

wat a coincidence.
i woke up today and went on youtube to watch some gerald wallace highlightes then i thought how cool it would be for a bobcat to be in the dunk contest. Then i log onto nba.com and see the great news!!!! WOW i am so pumped im happy for crash now so does this mean he should be a sure thing for the game now????
i dont expect him to win if he does great! i would like to see wallace and brown in the finals though. I want one of those 2 to win

Fans will be voting via SMS - this way he has no chance. Probably Sahnnon Brown will win cause he is a Laker and because a lto of people despise Nate already (he is KJnick so he will get a lot of votes too). And if LeBron would change his mind I'm sure league would get him in - another automatic votes from average fans.
First thing first - it is a good sign Crash is finally getting some official attention. Additionally it could mean he won't be snubbed and will play in the game ot on the other hand his participation in dunk contest is a consolation price and league just don't want him snub comletely.

I agree with you this could definitely be Crash's consolation prize for not being in the all star game. I hope not but it sounds like something the NBA would do.

...or they're feeling the pressure to select him...and since he'll be there for the All-Star game already:biggrin:...why not have him show off some dunks also...

I bet the only reason Gerald is doing it is because he thought Lebron was going to dunk. None of these clowns stand a chance. Robinson and brown look good dunking because they are small but they can't get up nearly as high as gerald. Derozan scares me a little he is the best. Eric Gordon belongs in the three point contest. Nate already jumped over dwight what can he do next.
After all star weekend everyone is going to know the name Gerald Wallace.
For those who say he has lost his hops what about his insane rebounding numbers or the fact that he blocked wade twice on dunk attempts last year on back to back possessions. These fools just don't know Gerald Wallace, but they will.
The last good trick dunk we saw was Iggy and the throw it off the other side of the back board to himself dunk. Since that time it has been dwight howard jumping real high and nate robinson jumping real high over people, thats it.

I just hope it is about dunking skill and not theatrical quality like it has been in the last few years - I want the winner to win because they do the craziest dunk, not because they wear a cape or come out of a phonebooth.

It said that if lebron wants to do the dunk contest he will be accepted back in. I dont think that s fair though just cause he is one of the best he can do a list minute. But we all no that if lebron enters hes going to win. Its not about the dunks as much as it used to be. Its about the player and wat they do before the dunk. I miss how the contests used to be

Freaking AWESOME!!!! Although i do agree the Slam Dunk Contest just isn't the same anymore with contestants wearing capes and whatnot to win it,i still don't like that Dwight Howard dunk and i still don't get how everyone was like "OMG that's the most awesomest thing in the world".

His nickname IS Crash after all :g: This is why I couldn't be more against him doing this. There is NOTHING to gain from GW taking part in this.....er....display. And then to look at the competition, it just seems so beneath him. I mean, hell, he's logging 40+ minutes per game; while the rest of the league is resting up, all we need is Gerald putting more and more stress on his knees and legs. And like ziggy says, there is the Crash factor...he's so balls-to-the-wall, I'm sure he'll try something that could very well get him hurt.
Ugh, I just absolutely cringed when I heard the news on the pregame show this afternoon. Hopefully, his ankle keeps him from going through with this.
I know you don't visit these boards, Gerald, but PLEASE....you don't need to do this to give attention to the franchise: you'll be an All Star anyway, plus a healthy Gerald will get the Cats to the playoffs which is more substantial and attention-getting than a lame dunk contest against some role players.

He threw the ball through the hoop.He didn't even dunk it.How can you not be amazed by that?

I'm excited about Wallace being in the dunk contest, But he's never been a flashy show boat dunker. UPS has had more highlight type dunks then Wallace. Wallace and Lebron are about the same, They dunk on people. No flash needed when your dunking the ball in someone's face. Wallace doesn't do 360's, backwards dunks, none of that. Every now and then we might see a windmill from him. I think it will be nice to see what Wallace can really do in the dunk contest

Quite honestly I don't think anyone has gotten seriously injured in the dunk contest.
