I know its early but I'm excited about the upcoming all-star weekend since we finally have a Bobcats representative in it.
Lets use this as a running thread for the entire weekend: rookie game, 3 point shoot out, skills challenge, dunk contest, the sunday game... The whole shebang
Anybody else hyped up about it? Surely I'm not the only one

The only thing that could make the weekend better would be if Jax had made it in.
I thought I heard somewhere that Flip is going with Gerald to be his guy on the teammate assisted dunk, Is that right?
Flip will be helping GW on the teammate dunk, probably some trick shot from behind the goal.

Word is Iverson may not go to All-Star weekend. He'll be returning to game action a week from today after being with his sick child and I would be surprised if he shows up at the ASG.
Hoping they fill his spot with a 21/5/4 guard...

I cant wait! Gerald will hopefully put on a show for us. It will be cool to see him play with guys like LBJ and DH12.
I also am hoping Curry wins the 3pt contest! :D

NBA TV was showing all the dunk contests last night so I got to see Crash v Richardson from 2002. Man Crash had some moves! Very curious now to see if he can bring now what he brought then.

Everyone thinks that Gerald Wallace is our first NBA All Star. But not only do we have an All Star already on the team... but we have an All Star game MVP on our team right now.

The Bobcats have had a few players that have played on an All-Star team besides LB. But they have never had an All-Star to represent the team.

Demar Derozan and Eric gordon are going to have to a lot better than their dunk-in efforts if they hope to get anywhere in tomorrow's dunk contest.
Those were some weak efforts.
Any idea what Crash may try to do tomorrow?
Since he's using Flip, I'm guessing at least 1 will involve Flip shooting over the backboard and Crash doing something with the ball midair then slamming it home.

I wonder if Gerald can pull off a 720?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z840KrgBrPc
^That would win it. No doubt.
not to be a turd, especially because i can't come close to dunking or even doing that on an 8 and half foot rim, but that was really a 540 not a 720. when he actually leaves the floor his back is to the basket. still ridiculous though. and would win the dunk contest.

LOL Gerald looked as excited to be participating as I was him taking part in the stupid thing......as in not much. Very glad to see he only took a total of 4 dunks (2 made) and he did nothing to aggravate the hammy.
And best of all, nobody will ever remember his lacking performance because it was such a forgettable "contest" as it was. Still, wouldn't've been easier just to not take part in the thing, GW, and at least save some face?
I haven't seen many All Star weekends over the last 10 years or so, but, this was by far the weakest I've seen of the 3pt and slam dunk contests. I mean, 20 points won?!?! I'm not saying I could've done better, but 20 points as the high number the entire contest was terribly weak I thought. And then, yeah, the slam dunk fiasco. Wow. However, I was laughing my ass off at the TNT "experts" the whole night, so that was good entertainment at least.

I totally agree, so far the "big things" this ASW so far were 1. The dallas trade 2. Rooks beat sophs for the first time in AGES. 3. Nash winning the skills challenge at his age.
Some of the "best of the decade" stuff was enjoyable.
Wallace's goal with the SD contest was "Don't get hurt" and I cant say I blame him at all... deflate the lung for the team, not for these people who didn't know you existed 3 months ago.

So why did he accept the invitation then?
I don't understand why he did this; and then when he did, not apply himself and look completely bored and above it all.
Hey, the best 2 dunkers in that lineup were Shannon Brown (no way he loses this; oops) and Gerald Wallace.
For once I would like someone to just do power dunks with high air and forget all the frilly shit. Hell, just have Flip toss an alley, slam the mofo down and snarl alot. Can't miss. If Gerald did any one of many of his in-game dunks he'd win easily; at least he should, pending the judges. Oh well.

That's why I think there should be defenders. You have to get your dunk by jumping over people or off a screen.
THAT would be a slam dunk contest.
Edit:
Finally watched Wallace's dunks. WOW! What garbage. Seriously, those were terrible.
My take: Wallace is a warrior, not a side-show like Nate is. (<--- making myself feel better by belittling others.)

I thought Nate's use of the Cowboy cheerleaders was very innovative. I would have given Nate a 10 to see one of those girls dunk on him.
Did anyone else just see Craig Sager completely fuck up on that Steve Nash interview?

haha for sure. But it's all good. He got his name out there and so did the team. I didn't expect nothing huge from him, and really, I'd rather him rest some. A few minutes playing in an all star game should be like a day off for him, which he needs, since he leads the league in minutes. Ah well.

Yeah, I must say I was a little disappointed, but not nearly as much as I would have been had he injured himself. Gerald looked as though he felt out of place the entire time he was in the game. Can't blame him too much for that. If you read Scott Fowler's article this weekend, then you know that Gerald's still just a country boy at heart. As a fan, I'm proud of the guy and I think he absolutely deserved to be in that game. However, there were moments where I know he could have (and in a regular game, would have) done so much more. On offense he mostly stood around the 3pt line, as Teej said, but we've seen him time and again make great driving plays for the 'Cats.
On Defense, I was a little more discouraged. How many times could Gerald have blocked the ever-loving crap out of somebody, but for some reason decided not to do it? I think he could have blocked Deron at least twice. Is blocking fellow all-stars not in the spirit of the all-star game? Maybe, but that is the spirit of what made Gerald an all-star. I would have been completely pleased with the whole weekend if he had rejected just one shot about 50 rows deep (which he might've been able to do, with the raised floor). I don't think he was going to hurt himself or anyone else doing it.
His focus is CLEARLY on the 'Cats and making the play-offs, and that's great. I should hope it is. However, when he was named to the all-star team and the dunk contest, did anyone else get the feeling that "we made it"? I did. It was like he's Biggie Smalls and we're Bed-Stuy. One guy makes it big, we all make it big. Is that a little absurd? Sure, but I know I wasn't the only one here who was psyched up about All-Star weekend because Gerald was in the game. I guess, after all that, what I'm trying to say is I kinda wish Gerald had been able to impress those 108K in Dallas and those watching at home, the way he has impressed the people of Charlotte.

great post, muttley. that pretty much sums up the whole weekend. the allstar game is for the ?pretty boys? who love the sound of their own voice and smile while the camera's on to help them further their brand image....and that's just not Gerald....and that's why i love him. and like you said, muttley , it's obvious where his loyalty lies and what his true goals are....all for the benefit of the Bobcats.

Bill Ingram - Hoopsworld (http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=15335)
Wallace: Bobcats Pushing Too Hard?
It was an historic weekend for the Charlotte Bobcats, having their first player ever to make an All-Star game in Gerald Wallace. Wallace's individual play was nothing special - whether it was in the dunk contest or the game itself - but just being there was a red letter event in the history of the Bobcats. "Hey, I was just trying not to fall on my face and shoot an air ball," says Wallace, laughing. "This was an amazing experience and I had a ball just being here. The whole atmosphere, being around the guys, the experience, the whole scene . . .this was something truly special. And then, for it to be in front of 108,000 people, that's crazy."
Wallace is a long-time NBA veteran, but still has a hard time wrapping his mind around what it means to be an All-Star now.
"I don't know. I'm still letting all of this sink in. I might feel it more when all of the focus on All-Star Weekend has passed and I'm more focused on the second half of the season. It was amazing just to be a part of the event, playing with so many great players, and just being part of the experience."
Now it's time for the Bobcats to get back to the business of making the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
"We've got to stay healthy and stay consistent with what we've been doing all year long," says Wallace. "All we have to do is improve on what we've been doing and basically cut down on turnovers and we'll be OK. ... I think the break helped us. Guys were maybe pushing a little too hard and some of the guys were a little banged up. Ray (Felton), especially, was hurting those last two games, so I think the break gave us a little opportunity to get healthy and hopefully we can start strong and stay strong through the second half of the season."
They didn't exactly get off to a great start, losing to the New Jersey Nets for the second time in their first game after the break, but the Bobcats are still squarely in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. If their second loss to the hapless Nets wakes them from their funk, they should be in position to make 2010 historic for another reason. Certainly their first All-Star gives Bobcats fans plenty to celebrate.
