I am so sick of seeing small ball. Almost an entire half tonight of Diaw at center and we almost lose to the damn Wizards.
I watched it from 5th row center court and is it that hard to see that when we play small ball all we do is completely vacate the lane and allow the other teams D to just force us into late shot clock jump shots from 15-25 feet and to pic up easy boards
Diaw is perhaps the softest starter in the damn league. I understand this is VERY short bursts IF we are going to really run the floor and push the ball but instead we do it for extended periods far too often and settle into a half court offense with it where Diaw gets abused on the defensive end and we settle for garbage shots that only keep us in th egame if someone gets a hot hand
Is it that hard to see this is a recipie for failure. Leave Nazzy in Damn it

Yea, because we were killing them when Chandler or Nazr was in (Sarcasm)

Diop has the highest rating at C out of our centers but...

Diaw has them all beat by far.
Also a confused lol at Brown's center rating

I know in only 67 minutes but still...
Like it or not, we play our best ball when playing with a small team.

:bull:
I can't tell you how much I hate small ball. Diaw gets destroyed nite in and nite out. What NBA coach chooses to have Boris Diaw as their center basically the whole game? What F'n sense does that make? Boris Diaw is softer then a baby's cough. He can't stop any post player, He passes up open lay ups. He doesn't put the opposing center in foul trouble. People jump right over him because he doesn't fight and jumps like a senior citizen.
I hate the way he jogs up the court after he turns the ball over or misses a shot

I think you are way off base. I agree none of our centers are anything to write home about but that is not the point. The fact is if you watch the games you can see when we have diaw at center we have no one in the post for the vast majority of offensive sets. The allow the defense to simply focus on denying the ball around the perimeter and regularly results in long jump shot as the shot clock runs down. It is agonizing to watch.
We play a decent version of small ball when Felton and DJ play together IF DJ has his shot on that night. We do not play effectively when we have no center int he game at all for extended periods. Once in a while we will get luck and SJax will get hot or Flip and we knock down jumpers. When they are not hot then we dribble half the shotclock away, pass it maybe twice and take a poor shot which we have to pray goes in.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I do not know what you are seeing. We played Horribly last night regardless of what stats say. LB preaches playing the right way. I am fully confident in saying that the right way is not settling for mid to long range jumpers with the shot clock under 5 seconds under pressure.
We really had no buisness winning last night. If it was a good team we were playing we would have been blown out. Felton saved that game at the end. We had poor ball movement and poor shot selection throughout the game. We also allow Mike Miller way more action that he should have in two games let alone one. I watched from 6th row center court and it was damn sloppy basketball
Again - F Small Ball
Wario, if Stats told the whole story, then you wouldn't need to play the game.
Cosign. Fuck Small Ball. Or just Fuck Diaw in general, although he might like that.
Small ball beat the Mavs in the 08 playoffs...
Ahhh who am I trying to kid, small ball is not the answer. We are not going to go anywhere with Meow getting demolished night in and night out.

When/if Tyson ever gets back into shape, I think we will see a lot of rotations with just him and no PF. It is really about matchups though. Sometimes small ball works real well especially when the other team is not as athletic defensively as the Bobcats.

My wife thinks he is that way . The only player we know thet uses hand lotion instead of the stuff all the other players use going into the game . She swars she thinks he is that way .
Well, he is French...
(no offense at all to any of the French here, it's just the culture differences)
Lexy uses lotion to doesn't he? I know I've seen him use it.
If only GW was an inch taller and 5% bulkier...

this is a good observation. i think small ball is how we rattled off such a successful january and saved the tossed salad man from hell on earth. the problem is that diaw is an awful player right now. when we go small ball we should go with naz or tc.
when we go small ball we should go with naz or tc.
That's not true small ball, because Jack and GW are 6'8/6'7 respectively and so is Boris (6'8 ), so having Nazzy or TC (6'10/7'1) out there is dramatically different than Boris at center.

it is more of the style of small ball than the size. you still get all of the mismatches when the defense is trying to put a 4 on gerald. plus, all can run, which is the essence of small ball.

Oh come on, ignoring stats is just plain ignorant. I got myself some proof but everyone else is just like OMG DIAW SUCKS 24 7 HE AT C JUST RUINS EVERYTHING
I don't think that Diaw at C is what necessary makes small ball work for us, but play wallace at the 4. jackson at the 3, flip at 2, and felton at 1 makes for nice mismatches.
Also, guess what. Our winning ways started up big when Tyson went down. Nazr tends to play less than half a game, so what do we do, we play small ball for most the game. And WE HAVE A WINNING RECORD DOING THAT.
I wouldn't mind doing small ball less now that TC is back and Diop has somewhat proved himself, but small ball for us should be done on a regular basis BECAUSE IT WORKS.
^Except we always seem to do much better with Nazzy in...hmm...
Look, I just want to win. But every time Diaw's in at center, it just looks sad. The other team can get into the post at will, and they outrebound us like crazy.

Personally I don't see much from Nazr except maybe 1 out of every 3 games he has some weird allstar like outburst and LB for some reason benches him after 15 minutes.
Nazr isn't exactly a great defender, but I think everyone exaggerates that Diaw is a terrible defender. For some reason, if someone scores on Nazr or Diop, everyone thinks "Damn, we got scored on", but if Diaw gets scored on then it's "Damn we got scored on, GET DIAW OUT OF THERE". I think because Diaw isn't a C, people pay more attention when he makes mistakes than a conventianal C. Not to mention, he's been sucking it off on offense, so that makes more people pay attention.
Now if we still wanna play small ball but put Nazr instead of Diaw at C and still have Wallace at the 4 and so on... That might work better, because I think the small 1-4 is what's making the lineup work, not Diaw. But Diaw creates mismatches, so who knows...
(I wish I could find one of those charts that compare the sucsess a team has with different lineups <.>)

Either Nazr or TC. Nazr would give us the option of getting some points in the paint and TC would give us a paint defender.
Anyone care to chk the numbers to see how badly we've been getting out rebounded during this "small ball"?

Look I watch the games 15 feet from the court. Diaw is actually trying to play defense - my point is the court get too stretched out and we have no interior presence. As such we end up taking lots of jump shots and our ball movement declines. Look at last nights game - we should have won that game by 20 points in all seriousness. We looked lost on offense like we did before Jax came and we nearly gave a easy win away.
It's like the person who wrote about Nazzy playing great then getting benched. You can see a huge difference when that happens. Just having a true center is sucks the opposing D further into the paint and frees up room on the perimeter to move the ball more effectively and get better shots

Anyone watching the game can see how miss leading stats can be. I've stated before the only reason Diaw has a better % then the others is because they all suck. But so does Diaw, Atleast those big men try to block shots and rebound. We don't have teams just running up in the lane all night when Diop is on the floor. Atleast Nazr gets fouls on other big men. Tyson... well he's a 7 footer

This is quite true. When Diaw goes to center, he usually does so with 3 other starters. However, the actual centers on the team often play with the subs in the game pretty often. This is why a single player's +/- is rarely meaningful unless they are a bench player.

I'm not a fan of small ball, mostly because it just doesn't seem necessary. It would be one thing if we totally lacked a solid big man, but Nazzy has been a reliable post scorer, solid on the boards, and even a pleasant surprise on the defensive end. I just don't get why LB doesn't play him more. How many times has he had a near double-double in the first half and then get benched for a whole quarter. He's averaging 17 mpg. Seriously? That makes no sense. He's got to be the most under-utilized player in the league.
