What players do you see being bought out or free agents u see that could help us out? The Kings started out by waiving Kenny Thomas and hopefully they let Larry Hughes go. Both of those can help us out are there anymore?

I believe buyout players can only accept a prorated contract of the vet. min for this year

I'd rather have Hughes. He can play both guard positions and could fill a similar role to what Flip did. If Hendo can do that, then we don't need him, but either way it wouldn't hurt.
Both are former LB players, though Hughes was a young guy back in Philly who exploded when he left, maybe he'll be an offensive (and limited) version of Raja?

Wizards ARE buying out James...
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/post/Wizards-buying-out-James?urn=nba,220777
We need to make a phone call NOW NOW NOW!
Thinking about things tho, are we not becoming a cobbled together pile of previously used larry brown players? :)

If Larry Hughes gets bought out, he would be a good pick up imo. He can do everything Flip could do and wecould probably get him on the cheap end........I would rather have hughes, who would see some playing time and will have a good impact on our team if he scores off the bench, then James who would be a 3rd string PG. Shoot, the second string pg doesnt even see good mins.
But if we end up with James I would be happy still! haha

Hughes might never play for the Kings, as his purpose is served by his expiring contract worth $13.6 million. He could be bought out or waived.
The 12-year veteran hadn't played since Feb. 5 for the Knicks and is recovering from a broken left hand, according to Petrie. Hughes' physical and reporting requirements were waived.
"The situation with Larry, actually, is he has a fracture on his left hand and he's being treated and he's in a splint currently back on the East Coast," Petrie said. "We've agreed he can stay back there and continue to work with those people, so it's not anticipated that he's going to be here with the team while he's undergoing his rehab and treatment back there."
Don't know when that hand will be ready...so unless it's soon I doubt we'd be interested in him.

And I agree with FFP etc - Hughes would be an amazing replacement for Flip.
In fact, I think he would be considerably better for us than Flip.

I read that he stayed on the East coast for rehab and that he might be bought out and never play for the Kings. Does it say some where else that his wrist will keep him out of the year?

Nah, I just see "broken wrist", see what's left of the schedule and figure that he won't have much of an opportunity to help us this year. Plus I think LB is going to lose sleep at night without having his 3rd PG.
I'd be happy to be wrong. I definitely agree that Hughes would be a superior signing over James.

He definitely said some silly things, but I like his moxie. One more pit-bull on a team full of them. I think he could be a nice combo-guard for us, but Brown and company need to talk to some folks to make sure it will work out.
Brown mentioned talking to Hunter and a couple of other folks about Thomas before the trade to make sure he's not a bad apple. We'd definitely have to dig a bit, especially when I guy basically tells you to.

Maybe I'm crazy but that vid makes me want him more...esp. since we're only talking vet min for 30 games.
I like the attitude and he's got something to prove. He has handles, he can pass and he's not afraid to shoot the ball...sort of like Flip.

Yeah, I felt the same way.
I think I want our squad to get to the point where teams still they might be able to beat us, but feel overwhelming dread about having to play us. He adds to that aura.
James would be a good pick-up for the play-offs...shooters (like Hughes) need time to get their stroke back...and coming back from the wrist injury...not sure about him...

Bobcats need to go ahead and sign Rashad McCants; McCants is a player that would work good coming off the bench with DJ, Derrick Brown, Tyrus, Theo or Nazr, which would allow us to have 2 sets of 5 that can get out there and still beat teams with Ray, Jack, Wallace, Boris, Tyson or Nazr on the bench.
Also Rashad McCants would come cheap sign him to a 1.1 mil contract, a 2.3 mil next year and a players option or team option the third year at 3.5 mil and inform him if he plays good attitude work good we would re-sign and re-neg. the contract after the 2nd year.
Rashad McCants can come off the bench and give us 15 points or 30 points. He also can run the point guard position like he did with the Timberwolves a Rashad McCants siging would most def make us a the complete team on the East and maybe a Eastern Conference Final trip this year.:g:

I like Hughes...but he really has been injured a lot the last few years...not sure I'd pick him for the last roster spot...
If he will be healthy down the stretch, he'd be better than a Mike James or Dontell Jefferson, but if he isn't, don't waste the cash.

Resurrecting this thread instead of continuing to post in the Larry Hughes thread. This topic is more suitable for the discussion now since we've officially decided not to pick up Hughes because of his finger injury.
Michael Finley was waived today too. Any interest in him?
Who else are possibilities? Mike James is still available too.
muttley...(answering your question from the other thread...and glad you resurrected this one) AI is still a 76er...LB has given every indication he wants a "vet type combo guard"...if not injured I think LH would have been that guy...I have yet to see anyone else (bought out or waived) that I think LB wants to jump on...and considering James played for him (at one time) not sure what that says about James...

I think Finley could work, since we need guard depth and if truly necessary Jack or Diaw could run the point, even Crash could.
But I'd rather sign Dontell or Mike James.

If we call someone up from the D-League now, would they be postseason eligible?
I was looking at the FAQ the other day on the subject of players being waived and I didn't see anything limiting an unsigned player from being brought on and eligible for the playoffs. The rule appears to only specify a timeframe on when they were waived...not when they're signed.
Anyone find anything different post it if you would.

Did LB not say on his arrival that he had never had a team with so many jump shooters? He then went on to break the Hammer beyond repair, who had been a solid contributor (and excellent marksman) for many seasons prior to that point. Don't really know what JRich's missed dunks have to do with my point that Wally Szczerbiak isn't on the top of LB's list.
You have to sign players by a certain deadline, but it's still a while away, end of March maybe?
edit: Actually, I don't think you do. You have can only activate 12 players for the playoffs and have to submit the list on the final day of the season. So anyone we sign (besides Hunter) will be playoff eligible.

What I meant about J-Rich is LB seems to break player's confidence levels. Poor Matt was once a top 3 point shooter, now I don't know if he'll even be able to play after this contract expires. AmMo was decent in his one season, then he couldn't hit anything. J-Rich has been poor in Pheonix. After one season even Raja was bricking everything (meaning this preseason). DJ can't hit a shot to save his life. Vladi is terrible. I can't imagine him always being this way?
Yeah, anyone we sign that was not on another roster after March 1st is eligible as long as we sign them before the end of the season.
Walt Cronkite

I can't imagine him always being this way?
I think he demands for players to get out of their comfort zone and expand their game, but it's a slippery slope. Confidence is built by what you've had success doing and it takes a lot of mental fortitude to fail repeatedly and be sort of confused about what will make the coach happy. This is imo, why we've had success early on with trades... we were targeting a skill set that was lacking, now we've got it! Unfortunately, it also leads to the slump players fall into because they are overwhelmed (Diaw until recently is an easy example). I think his history of having an ever revolving roster would indicate that it has always been this way. If you can play through it, he's happy with you. If you can't, you ride the pine and get dumped for the opportunity to start the process over.
