We are on the outside looking in people...

http://bobcatsplanet.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/outside_looking_in.jpg

Miami's win over the Lakers last night managed to drop us 1.5 games out of the 8th seed and simultaneously piss off the Lakers as they enter tonight's game against us

In the enemy's game thread (http://forums.lakersground.net/viewtopic.php?t=106177), they don't seem to be overflowing with confidence. Apparently they didn't see how 'Cats laid down and gave it up to the Celtics.

And lest you forget, We will see the triumphant return of this guy tonight:

What is going to be? Can we turn it around or do the ass kickings continue?

ahh it makes me sick to think only about a month ago we were flying high  all we can do is stick with it and hope it turns around at some point, but no im gonna have to agree with popular opinion another big fat L tonight would be good to see nazr get some play time :( as for Chandler he can spend the rest of his contract on the injury list for all i care.

It doesn't matter who plays center. If we can't hit our outside shots, which has been our problem during this losing stretch not center play, we lose.

It's not mutually exclusive.

I don't see that much drop off in our center play. Theo has played great since he has been here. He produces slightly less points and rebounds then Nazr but does a better job of protecting the rim.

DJ on the other hand has been the most consistently poor performer during this stretch. We have no shooting coming off the bench now that flip is gone and DJ can't buy a basket. Jack is good but streaky. Raymond is usually good for 3-8. Diaw is streaky as hell. Why wouldn't you just pack it in on this team. THIS is the main reason we have been so terrible.

I love playing the Lakers.

Every game, Kobe gets pissed off, their fans get pissed off, and the Bobcats tend to play well.

Just finished watching the game ala DVR (forgive me if I'm repetitive, as I haven't been able to read the whole thread yet), and I gotta say I was happy with everybody. Ray didn't have one of his best games (by the end of it), but he hit shots early. Also, LB had the vision to play the hot hand at PG, who was DJ Augustine on this particular night.

Heck, Tyson Chandler played good in the minutes he had! As Steve Martin said, "He made double figures in 'screens set.'"

Everyone seemed to at least try to "Play the right way."

Now, I've seen this team many times before, and I know they play up-or-down to their competition. Still, I've gotta hold out some hope that this team is able to learn from the mistakes of the past [playing like they don't give a damn] and improve for the future [move without the ball, and also pass the f***ing ball]. They showed progress of that type tonight, and there is a real possibility of winning 6-of the next-7.

What a great game, though. Even Hendo (smells like outdoor) played really well in his handful of minutes. Derrick only got some garbage time, but he made sure he scored when he was out there. Great stuff all around. Go 'Cats!

Wow. Hendo got more than 2 minutes. On the flip side to that, it's awesome that he got in. It would do wonders for his defensive and offensive game guarding Kobe. Jax had a stellar night, even better is that he didn't play for 40+ minutes, so next game he'll be fresher.

Can't believe I'm admitting this but TC looked GOOD out there. Gasol was really bothered by him. We really needed his length out there since Theo, TT and Tyrus wouldn't cut it against 2 7 footers.

Auggie has shown why we drafted him. If he can bring that consistantly, I will be damn happy.

UPS should play more minutes. Crash looked awesome in his minutes (that 3 at the shot clock buzzer was shweet), but they need to drop those minutes.

TT is a beast. Love how aggressive he is. Even though he'll pick up a lot of fouls, LB has given him the "License To Fly"

Great win. Let's keep it up!

The one thing I can take from tonight's game is we are extremely better on offense when our PGs are aggressive. We made a run in the disaster at Boston b/c our PG was aggressive, we put the game away tonight when our PG was aggressive and our play earlier this year was partly due to an attacking PG. So I say from this point on when we are struggling on the offensive end I'm looking for our PGs to be aggressive.

Aggressive count: 4

Amazing game. Loved everything from MJ and Nature Boy to Hendo and DJ to Tyson and Tyrus to Jack and G-Dub to LB's presser.

First, where did DJ Augustin's jump shot come from and how long is it staying?

Second, Tyrus looked like a mix of Usain Bolt, Tim Tebow, MJ, and Rodman. WOW. That kid is goooooooood.

Third, Thank God Tyson is back, he might finally be healthy. He looked very solid tonight.

Fourth, Gerald Henderson!! Wow. Playing Raja Bell-like D on Kobe and shooting solidly.

Fifth, Gerald and Jack brought it. Loved that.

Sixth, Pau is a pussy. And Dell called him out for being soft.

Seventh, MJ looked very happy. A happy boss is a good boss.

Eighth, do we have Ric Flair back from the Hornets? Sucks for you, Shinn!!

Ninth, DJ and Tyrus seem to be meshing well and that second unit would look better if UPS and Hendo got some burn with those two.

And tenth, Phil Jackson makes his assistan coaches look like 5 year olds. He has his own high chair.

Great, great, awesome, amazing, super, did I say great game!! Let's not forget how we did it.

Collapsed. I was looking in on it, and thought of that Celtics player...Bias. It happened during a Timeout. I hope he is ok.

I think you're thinking of Reggie Lewis, not Bias

I came home for spring break so we went to Kabuto for some sushi and to my surprise.... the game was on!

A few things of note from the game:

It was hilarious when Ray was bringing the ball down and just straight smacked Kobe in the face. Literally busted out laughing.

Crash may be shooting better percentage wise, but his form is just terrible. Downright ugly.

TT is quickly becoming one of my favorite players in the league. He's really beginning to soften the blow of this impending Crash trade.

Wonder if Kobe called Felton "young fella" too?

I missed that! Video by chance?

Ray was bringing the ball up the court and Kobe was hounding him off to the sideline and when Ray went to spin back to the middle, he spun his arm around and smacked him in the face but Kobe got called for a reach foul or something (to which he bitched about for a good 5 minutes)

Ray was called with the offensive.

It was really sloppy by Felts.

Kobe was riding him on his hip bumping him the entire way...just like he was when he got called for the foul right before he left the game.

It might have been "sloppy", but I can understand the frustration (even tho I'm sure slapping him in the face was unintentional). The foul should have been called way before that incident.

Right, and Felts threw his arm out to try and fend him off and was rightly called for the offensive.

It's something he used to do a lot in previous seasons which you thought didn't happen and would drive me nuts (not you thinking it didn't happen, the fact that he did it). He hasn't done it hardly at all this season which has been great. Having others handle the ball and on ball pressure rather than him has probably been a plus there for him.

Intentional or not, it's sloppy.

All well and good while ignoring that they should have called the foul on Kobe multiple times before the hand went out.

I remember that too. I went back and checked the play by plays and he'd done it something like twice in 6 games when you were implying it was happening all the time. I also remember you being surprised...thinking it was much more than that.

Not ignoring, I didn't think he was being fouled.

Of course, I didn't think that Felts was fouling D.Will the other week either.

What Felts did was blatant though - obviously, because he was called for the offensive. There was nothing left to question. He threw his arm out - like he tends to do. Like I said though, he has been MUCH better with it this season. I assume it's because he has others to take care of some ball handling getting him away from some of that up close and personal single coverage.

Being called twice in 6 games or what ever the numbers were (can't remember now, although I thought it was more than that with the sample size you referenced at the time) is two times too many IMO. It's one of the worst turn overs a PG can commit.

It's because he only has ok handles so he has to do things like that. If someone applies a lot of pressure on his dribble, he can panic.

He splits doubles very well though so it's weird. He just seems to struggle with one on one coverage sometimes.

Ok then!

Rules changes have affected defensive philosophies (http://www.nba.com/2009/news/features/david_aldridge/04/22/aldridge.defenses/)

The way the rules are now you can't even touch the guy.

Who's questioning it? I'm saying it shouldn't have reached that point. You might not have thought it was a foul but that episode was much worse than the one Kobe did get called for right before he left the game.

Just my opinion.

Of course the "like he tends to do" & "he's been MUCH better with it this season" kinda contradicts each other. Even tho it was nowhere near as bad as you implied he seems to have corrected it for the most part no? Even from your POV the "tends to do" shouldn't be applicable.

Same thing you said then. But this 0 tolerance kick you seem to be on is not realistic. Felton's not a perfect player no more than any of our other guys are...so expecting perfection will either lead to disappointment or an opportunity to point out every little error like it's huge.

It's especially disingenuous when the same standard isn't applied to everyone.

I also disagree on the "worst TOs a PG can commit". IMO the worst are the ones parallel to the basket on the perimeter that usually leads to a fast break and 2 points...2 of which he did last night.

One leads to a dead ball...the other leads to points. Turning over possession < scoring.
