A slightly improved version of Flip. Heck yea, I'll take it

This is a smart move. Waited to make sure the finger was healed before signing. Dont want to spend the money and then the finger have complications. Smart move.

On the defensive end, yes. If scores in dbl digits w/ us I will be surprised.

That's a great pickup if he's healthy.

Why sign him? He can't be on the playoff roster can he? Or can he since he was released before March 1? Decent pickup though...Gives you a veteran guard, just worried Henderson may losing playing time :-(

LB doesn't like playing rookies in the middle of December. I can't see Hendo getting heavy minutes in the middle of a playoff run. That's just the way LB runs things. With that said I think Gerald has been playing well lately for the minutes he is getting.

I would've liked this move more 2 weeks ago. I was concerned about our ability to score off the bench when we were struggling right after the all-star break...

But, since we started winning, it's not as much of a concern now. DJ has stepped it up and has found his stride again... He's back to his old self and is scoring at will for the most part. He's got his confidence back. Hendo's been getting minutes and has been looking good in them, so I hate for him to lose them.

IDK if I like the timing of it and taking minutes away from DJ and Hendo, but I understand LB's logic, I just don't like the timing.

i still hate Larry Hughes, but if it means I'll never have to see Stephen Graham again and Jackson will be able to get a few more minutes of rest per game coming up on the playoffs, i guess its alright. Though I'm sure this means Henderson is back on the bench for good, which is unfortunate

So, can he or can't he play in the playoffs?

I'm glad we signed him though, hopefully he's healthy soon.

Two Larry Hughes threads are merged.

So, can he or can't he play in the playoffs?

Since he was unattached as of March 1, he can play in the playoffs.

Isn't Larry Hughes the guy who couldn't make a dunk in some random dunk contest?

Isn't he also pretty over-rated?

I don't know much about him, but from what your reactions are, he must be somewhat decent?

Probably decided after Wallace got hurt.

If Wallace is out for a while, I'd rather have Hughes playing more minutes than Graham. Graham might make a play every now and then, but most of the time he'll be moving too fast for himself and everyone else and do something stupid like pass up a wide open lay up to zip it backwards towards an unsuspecting teammate who was expecting him to lay it up like everybody else in the building.

Well, considering he's not signed, I'm not sure he's that overrated. The biggest knock on him is probably his inefficiency on offense. However, he's got a nice overall skill set. He seems to be the type of player that Larry likes to have for limited minutes off the bench. He's 6'5 and can play both guard positions, assuming he's still fast enough.

I like the acquisition. I don't think he can really hurt us. He actually had pretty nice rebound and assist numbers for his reduction in minutes in NY.

plus larry hughes is another player who can create his own shot which you need in playoffs. Remember that playoff games are more physical and a player with his skill set can come in handy. he plays good defense, can guard the 1,2,3 plus he has over 45 games of playoff experience( averages of 13.2 pts,4.6 reb.,3.0 asts,1.8 stls)

Not only would Hughes really balance out the roster, I just love the amount of different combinations we could throw out there if we added Hughes into the mix.

If we do sign him it makes trading away Flip a wash - meaning we only really gave away Law and a future mid-late 1st round pick for T2.

Which makes me grin from ear to ear.

I really don't see how this can be a bad move. Worst case we cut him and it costs like 100-200k of MJ's money if that (20 games at vet minimum prorated).

Could easily be a great signing with almost no risk.

Imagine a small lineup of hughes, jackson, diaw, wallace,t.thomas depending on the match up this would be really cool to watch these guy run up and down the court ala old school lakers or phoenix of a couple years ago except they play better d and you would not give up much rebounding since they all rebound well for their size for the most part

Yup - plus I would view it as the opportunity to audition Hughes on the cheap to see if we wanted to invite him back next year full time.

If we are in the 2nd qtr and are up by 10 points or so, an injection of:

DJ - Hughes - Hendo - T2 - TC

burning up the court for a 3 or 5 min spurt building on that lead and crushing the spirit of the other team while Felts, Jax, Crash and Boris all get some rest would be delicious.

Larry Hughes is a good player.....I have always liked him. It also makes me feel a little more comfortable as far as if somebody gets hurts(...cough.....gerald....cough....) we have somebody who COULD pick up the slack. He's averaging almost 10 ppg THIS season and over 14 for his career.

Hughes is 31 now...wonder what it'd take to sign him next season? I really don't see him close to being an MLE player but he probably thinks differently.

Either way he'd definitely help out (shouldn't he at least still be in shape? Probably couldn't shoot) by giving us more versatility and we can worry about next year this summer. Like I said earlier, if we can have a good showing in the playoffs MJ may very well be willing to spend to keep us moving forward on the court.

IDK.....it depends on what he does for us. If he comes up big and helps us get in and do well in the playoffs, then he's probably gonna get above the MLE

The good thing is teams are much more hesitant to sign veteran guards than anytime I can remember. If Hughes decides he needs more dough, we can find somebody to replace him in the off season or after the deadline next year, if need be. Hopefully, reality is setting in for everybody with these contracts.

It's a done deal!!

Just confirmed the Charlotte Bobcats have signed combo guard Larry Hughes for the rest of the season. Don't yet know how long it will be before he can play, after breaking a finger. But he's here to pick up some of the scoring load off the bench that left when Flip Murray was traded to Chicago and to serve as a third point guard, when necessary.

I think DJ will be fine, he was signed to replace Flip and provide a more viable backup behind Gerald. If anything it should open up things even more on the second unit for DJ with Hughes being one more person the defense has to account for.

I'm worried that this is going to cut into Henderson's time. I will be much happier with this move if he takes over Graham's role rather than Henderson's. I really would like to see Henderson being the primary backup to Jackson and Hughes being the primary backup to Wallace.

I don't want Hughes to cut into Hendo's development time, since he's finally getting some. More game time we give Hendo the better.

At this point, I'm not overly concerned with Hendo's development. Brown has the playoffs to think about right now, and Larry Hughes is a nice piece to have, especially if he's 100% before the playoffs start.

I think Larry will work out well here. If he takes a few minutes off Jack, all of Stephen Grahams minutes, and maybe take a little from DJ and Henderson i think he can really be a asset. The key is getting him play time.

please remember that both henderson and brown are rookies who have not gone to war in a playoff series. whoever we play is going to break down all of our weak areas and try to exploit them and vice versa. both the rooks have a bright future and will someday be major pieces to the puzzle. henderson probably needs to become a better ball handler and outside shooter to get minutes as long as jack is on this team

Hughes adds another dimension but...he's coming back from an injury and he needs "adjustment time" with his teammates...I hope he gets that "time" before the play-offs...that's my concern...:g:

Those tears mean he lost someone.
Meaning of tear tats:
If the tears are colored in, like his, it means he lost a close friend or family member
If they are just the outline then it means he killed someone

some ajustment time is needed but also remember he has played in LB's system in the past. LB will probably only require he play defense and add scoring off the bench either way he'll get atleast 15 games to work on timing

Yea okay thats basically backing up what I said haha. I said if he lost someone close to him, that explains the tears being colored in. All I was aying was the meanings of the two types of tear tattoos

Yeah. I remember he chose to play at St. Louis in college to stay close to home, when other much higher profile schools came calling. Having heart troubles of my own since birth, I always tried to keep track on how his bro was doing and when word was he died, I was pretty bummed. I've always been a Larry Hughes fan for that reason alone....plus he's a '79er and we all stick together!
