I'm not buying it.
Obviously, they have a ton of power. However, conspiracies like this are just created to make us feel like our small daily decisions are of little consequence, that we're all just puppets of a few powerful people hiding in the shadows, which I simply don't believe.
The Rothschild family industry effectively started through Christian practices of not handling money. Jewish families made money off of money lending because it was one of the few things they were allowed to do during much of the second millennium in Europe.
Next thing you know, Christians of various walks of life realize that the Jews they had oppressed suddenly had amassed a ridiculous amount of wealth, leading them to start making conspiracy theories about how they were taking over the world, with the Rothschild family being the face of Jewish wealth.
They have a lot of power and influence, but I don't think them, Skull & Bones, or any other group is controlling the world. That is, unless the masses let them.

dnbman,
I can't really say that it's the Rothschilds, but as I get older I have more of a feeling that the game of life is fixed. We go through the motions of voting and supporting our political systems. We argue democrat versus republican versus independant versus libertarian, we debate Christianity versus Judaism versus Islam versus agnosticism versus atheism. Pro-life versus Pro-choice.
But at the end of the day, it all seems like a distraction to keep the public from paying attention to the corporations that have both hands in our pockets and who are really the ones that are running things.
Maybe I'm just becoming a grumpy old man, Next thing you know, I'll be yelling at kids to stay off my lawn. :)
ziggy...I like to feel that the "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" is the real distraction...and too a great degree distraction is the name of the game...while in the military I found that conspiracies are simply a group of individuals with the same goal in mind...on many occasions that one goal was the only thing they had in common...but too many folk have "greed" as their common goal now and greed has a very strong pull for those who work without a moral base...

very well said BRNC,
In the corporate world of today, it is hard to find people with real decision making authority who aren't ruled by greed or eager to please those that are ruled by greed. It's troubling to say the least.

Yeah, but how are those corporations getting the money? All of us individuals doing stupid stuff and making bad decisions. My frustration isn't with big corporations. My frustration is with the masses pissing their lives away.

What do you think it will take for the masses to change? I've always thought that it would take another 1930s caliber depression for people to wake up and start doing what is best for their own self interests.

We're halfway there right now.
But that's pretty much what it is. On Mark Cuban's blog, one of his key's to making money is not to use credit cards, and to never spend any more money than you have to. Tell that to the modern consumer...

The biggest flaw in many conspiracy theories is they assume groups of people, like the elite, don't have tons of conflicts/power struggles amongst themselves.
I agree that corporations do have too much power in the current system. The easiest way for the masses to subvert that power is to communicate more. To tell on the corporations who don't play by the rules so everyone can vote with their dollar. Hopefully this can happen in our life time. It works amazingly well on ebay with feedback system for that setup.
On a larger scale if we had more information about what these companies stood for we could make better decisions. Companies that sold breast enlargement cream or any other manner of scam would not be able to count on new consumers just giving them a try because everyone could just go to the net and check. You might be able to check a companies record on polution, false advertising, and customer service as well as several other things.
The main thing holding something like this back is who would pay for the gathering and organizing of such knowledge. It cannot be the companies or they would use there leverage to falsify the information for there own aims. It could be done with tax dollars but, we all know that corporations have lots of influence in Washington. Probably the only way something like this gets done is if the people step up and pay for it.
The conspiracy theorists use history selectively to explain there theories but if you look at the whole course of history governments and religion have done much more oppressing then corporations.
