It's about that time folks. Time to start counting down that magic number. Today's number:
http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2007/1107/pg2_a_augustin_200.jpg
The number 9! As in the draft pick used to select D.J. Augustin in the 2008 NBA Draft!
Let's not mention that whole Lopez thing.
Go Bulls! Tank for that lottery pick!

He won't ever be Bowlin' Ball Felton, but if he keeps adding bulk he'll be so much more effective at the tin, though I wish he would develop the tear drop.......

Go Bulls! Tank for that lottery pick!
Adding insult to injury is the fact that the Bucks obtained Salmons and the right to switch draft picks with the Bulls. Which means the Bulls will not have a lottery pick and they will have no incentive to tank. They are thinking that they need to beat us twice and get hot down the stretch. There is no other focus for them until the season ends and they start looking at DWade and Bosh.

Liking the 'Cats chances. All's they gotta do is go 5-6 in the final 11 (wins WAS, PHI, DET, @NJ, CHI) and the Bulls can go 8-4 (losses MIA, PHX, CLE, BOS or CLT) and the 'Cats are in!

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Hm, it may not amount to a swap of more than 2 or 3 slots, but it could be more depending on the lottery results. In any case, I look forward to the Bulls decreasing that Magic Number quite frequently.
Just not tonight against the Miami Heat. We need them to lose as well.

That is one reason the draft lottery will be interesting this year. The Bulls lose their pick to the Bucks and the Knicks lose their pick to Utah (I think). It will be funny if either of those teams get lucky in the lottery. Especially if the Knicks pick lands at the top. I wouldlove that. It would send a top talent out west and I love anything that pisses off the Knicks and their fans.

I think everyone outside of New York is hoping for a massive Knicks fail. Best case scenario is they only sign Joe Johnson and get screwed on all their draft picks. It is such a pitiful franchise, though much of that is Mr. Thomas' fault. Still, they are trying to be like the Yankees with a salary cap.

He's definitely been lifting weights over the off season. He needs to develop that tear drop and study Tony parker and Steve Nash because he isn't a good finisher in the paint or at the rim.
He also needs to get stronger, even though he may have been lifting weights before training camp,he's still getting pushed around out there.

So Magic 8 Ball..do you think the Bulls will make the playoffs this year?
http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p250/robert817/magic8ballNO.jpg
With quotes like this from Joakim Noah (See ESPN Daily Dame) it is easy to understand why.
It takes a lot to shock Joakim Noah. The Bulls' outgoing third-year center usually takes life in stride and responds to questions that focus around the impending doom of his team's playoff fate accordingly. He is convinced, and has been for quite some time despite missing almost two months due to plantar fasciitis, that his team would be fine. Who cares if they were a few games out of a playoff berth at the moment? They would all get healthy again and start playing well. It was that simple. Why sweat it?
That's why his response was so surprising when I asked him on Thursday morning whether he knew how many games his team had left or not. "I know it's around 15, 16 games, right?" he said.
"Twelve," I said.
"Twelve games left!," he said with the type of excitable emotion that people have grown to love and/or hate about the two-time NCAA champion. "Wow," that's unbelievable, man. I wasn't sure but -- I know it's not a lot of games. That's why we got to make sure we take care of business tonight."

Earliest we can clinch is April 2nd, and because both the Bulls and Cats play that night that means we can lose or they can win once before then and we still clinch.
The next day, we play them in Chicago. We should at least be able to clinch by then.
It is kind of odd (after all these years) to have this discussion...but I wonder if we clinch (with a few games left) if LB pushes for say the fifth seed (if we're in striking distance) or will give rest to the starters...:g:

Has more to do with his height and ability.
If you're going to be as short as he is, then you need exceptional quickness (think Mugsy Bogues, Spud Webb, or Earl Boykins), which he's never really had.
SWedd523
03-27-2010, 03:15 PM
Not really. He's pretty much always able to get past his man with his quickess but just gets caught in the air without being able to take the bump. If he gets strong enough to take the hit and not get knocked off his line then he'll make a lot more of his layups.

I want Darren Collison

I want Darren Collison
Darren is a solid player, but I think he also is inflated by the system in N.O. I told people in 2005-2006 that the N.O. brass had overhauled their roster and built it around a pg being able to penetrate freely while being surrounded by shooters to kick it to when collapsed on. It's similar to Rondo in Boston. These (Collison and Rondo) guys are both terrific players, but there is a reason neither of them showed hints of doing what they would come to do in the league. They both have come into perfect pg situations that allow the bulk of their shot opportunities to be high quality and plenty of options for easy assists (kickouts for to guys who can shoot).
Look at the end of game play that they ran against us when playing earlier in the year. When Collison went one on one with Felton, the floor was COMPLETELY spread as help defenders respected their kickout options and didn't even sag, leaving Collison's defender on an island. It is ideal for a pg and makes the game easy for you. It's the same reason Collison, like Paul's, best success comes with Peja and another shooter on the floor vs. non-shooting wings even when they are more athletic.
or will give rest to the starters...:g:
Maybe, and a very tenative maybe, I think he rests GW. We can win without him, and he indirectly benefited from the injury by resting up. Jack's finger won't heal with rest so he can lead us with Stevie over the last couple games. LB might rest Theo a little too, but everyone else I'd expect to play full minutes. But that's just me.
...but what "if" you have a legit shot at #5 teej...would you rest guys or push for the fifth seed...
I know "seeding" is a psychological thing for teams so would you push (as a coach) for the highest seed possible or start resting guys when you clinch a spot?

Depends on what Boston and Atlanta do.
If they keep messing around with the 3 and 4, what we do won't matter much. And right now we'll be lucky to be 7 the way Miami's playing.

This is all speculation how can you even say that.BS,that's like saying Felton or DJ will do a lot better in a D'Antoni system. How do we know that for sure. You used 1 example and i watch the Hornets play a lot because i like CP3,Okafor,West,Collison and Thornton.
I do know that Collison is a very solid player and you saying he's inflated is whack, your logic here is weak. You say Rondo is only an All Star/terrific because of his situation also.
I don't need you teling me Collison is inflated, i know he's better than that.Like i said i watch a lot of Hornets games and he's got more depth to his offensive repetoire than this so called "system" you mentioned.
For example i was watching their game today against the Lakers,Collison was hitting jumpers off the stutter step dribble,he was blowing by his man and finishing in traffic, he was hitting 3s,and he was playing at the 2 guard position.
But if you want to believe Collison is "inflated" ........by all means.

Did I say those guys weren't good players? Nope. In fact, I said they were both terrific players. But it's just like being a QB in a Texas Tech system vs. an Alabama system in college football. You still have to be good to put up numbers at TT, but even if the Bama QB is better than the TT QB, he is going to put up better numbers in their system that is more designed for the wide open scoring system than the Bama more conservative offensive approach.
My point was merely in extrapolating what one player does in one system to what would happen in our system where LB doesn't like the 3 to be as much of a weapon. That 3 point shot and guys who are looked as people you can't sag off of works wonders for playmaking, penetrating, etc. That is why I brought up the things I did about NO and how they tend to be better with "shooters" like Posey, Peja, Rasual Butler (when he was there), and Mo Pete on the wings vs. more athletic "scorers" like Julian Wright, Bonzi Wells, etc.
My one example was just based on something I figured we both watched. If you want me to talk about how different CP3 looks on the court with shooters vs. without them and give you recent playoff examples, I can do that. It's the same reason Steve Nash looks different surrounded by shooters vs. not or Tony Parker and the Spurs when their guys are knocking down 3s vs. not.
It's the same reason Cleveland went and tried to get one more guy in Jamsion to pull guys out of the lane for their offense initiator in Lebron James or why the Lakers were at their best when they had guys knocking it down all around Kobe (why they might end up missing Ariza more than they realize even though Artest is a slight notch above defensively).
All that said, both of those guys are terrific players. My point was only that they are in ideal pg offenses that are more wide open than ours due to pure shooter differentials (and I LOVE the various wings on our team).
In the end, it was simply me expressing my continued desire for a spot up shooter on the team that would punish any team that helped off one of our penetrating guards in ways similar to that of Boston and N.O that teams universally respected.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but as long as I've followed sports since I was child, I still don't completely understand the "magic number." Is that referring to the # of wins we need to lock up a playoff spot?
Aside from that... After last night's loss (I'm still pissed), I haven't sat down and looked at the schedule... BUT, I do know we have 6 games left. The Bulls are 3 behind. I'm figuring worse case scenario, if we slip into the 8th seed behind Toronto, to avoid dropping out of the playoffs altogether we need to win at least 3 gms of the last 6 to stay in the top 8. Am I right?

It's the combined number of Bobcats wins or Bulls losses that are needed to guarantee us a trip to the playoffs.
Right now the magic number is 4, so that means 1 Bobcats win and 3 Bull losses will get us in, or 2 Bobcats wins and 2 Bulls losses, or even 0 bobcats wins and 4 Bulls losses.

The problem is the tie-breaker. If we finished tied with the Bulls but they had the tie-breaker (based on head-to-head record), we'd be out. So three wins doesn't guarantee us a playoff birth. If the Bulls win the next one against us, they would own the tie breaker. If we win, it goes to conference record. Right now, we are tied at 24 wins. Here's a break down of the playoff tiebreakers.

Either way, big night tonight with 'Cats/Atl, Tor/Cle, and Mil/Chi

It's been debated whether or not that is actually poop. I don't really want to think about it though. Could we get a mod to remove that?

lol it was pretty funny. it does emphasize the 2 to 1 transition we are aiming to take. but yes, most parts of life should be turd free.

When you're sitting in a work internal education seminar on grammar, and you check BCP on your blackberry, and you see pictures of girls eating poop, it makes you wonder if you were, in fact, the first person in the history of our great world to do that.
If so, I'd like to plant the poop-covered flag down on the turdmoon in the name of BobcatinDC.

Oh poor Billy Gunn. That is such a sad gimmick that spelled the downward spiral of his career. It is never a good sign when you are being marketed as a "good wrestler"...it is like saying Mark Madsen tries hard.
