Loved that piece, it really put into perspective what our team is; a combination of guys who weren't wanted by someone else, and who have found their niche here in Charlotte. They're a rag-tag bunch of guys who have either seen better days, or who's best days have come around after years of searching. They aren't the prettiest bunch to watch, but I find it impossible not to root for them.

Good article. The pattern of national articles outshining our local ones continues. Glad to see NYC recognizing we got something special going on this year.

Just goes to show how bad Bonnell, Fowler, and Sorenson are. I read more quotes and get more inside info from one national article than a week's worth of Bonnell...

That's what I call a great article. Fans in NYC are probably wishing they had Brown now.

They made a typo. They said Ronnie Brewer not Corey Brewer.
Hmmm not better than the Pacers or LB's Pistons ay,and Jax thinks we're not better than the Spurs(understandably) BUT we will get there.....we will get there,as long as LB is around.

I remember SI's Jack McCallum did a piece last year on the Larry/MJ dynamic and how, I didn't necessarily agree with everything he said, much better written it was than Bonnell. I mean, really, being an English major, I'll admit I'm a little hard on the craftsmanship of any article, essay, or non-fiction, but still, Bonnell's articles just have a poor organization to them. I think he's probably got good ideas, and sometimes gets good quotes, but he can't put them together to form a quality article. I mean, it's hilarious that the Winston-Salem Journal, as much as they've had to cut their sport staff, and being in a small city has much better writers than Bonnell in terms of content and organization.

A funny aside about the article: MT came up to my seats during halftime and told me about a guy from the NY Times being here writing an article on the Cats defense, and how he coaxed him away from the court to show him the arena during that "defensive effort" in the 1st.

Great read. Some really good stuff there. Makes me cry to think how bad Bonnell is compared to him. Then again, NY has a lot more people than Charlotte, so a lot more talent there.

not a bad article, as far as bonnell is concerned, i've never really had a problem with him per say but you have to remember he has editors who decide what gets written. the observer has never been outstanding but over last 10 years it's fallen even further

This was a nice write-up...much better than the ones we get from our local "writers"...the only thing that bothers me is "it all starts with Raymond Felton"...it just reminds me how much some people (including their writers) want him in a Knicks uniform next year...

My biggest problem with our writers is that there really seems to be no special insight into the team, or any observation on them that fans would not otherwise know about.

I remember way back when we first got the Hornets, every week there would be a huge article about one player on the team, even the scrubs, and on the back page was a huge color drawing of a player - it was something I would get excited about each week and I collected them to put on my wall (Yes, even Earl "the Jheri Curl" Cureton and Tim "Dr. K" Kempton made the wall).

The only insightful article of the Bobcats that I can remember is the one on Gerald Wallace and his upbringing right before the all-star game (and we've had him for 6 years before this was written). I don't recall ever seeing something on the backstory of anyone else. Felton is the closest thing to a local hero, but all we really know is that he was a one-man wrecking crew at Latta before winning a championship at UNC. I would love to hear about Diaw's upbringing in France, how he became an NBA talent. I know Stephen Jackson is newer, but I just know that he has stories for days on how he came about.

I know that ol' Bobby Johnson had a hard time getting the community to connect with the team, but I think the writers could help if they wrote a story on the human side of the players every now and then - on their motivations, fears, interests, upbringing. At least the fans could maybe have more of a connection or understanding of the players then, and I actually think it would bring more of a community like vibe to the team and city.

This is a very outstanding and well thought out post sir. I just want you to know other people in this city that we call Charlotte feel 110% like you do about our local media coverage of OUR Charlotte Bobcats. They dont provide much insight at all or in depth stories about our players that we dont already know. I was also thinking the other day about how we as Hornets fans even had a huge mural on the side of one of our buildings uptown with images of Hornets players over the years. I dont know if we have a building to accommodate it anymore, but wouldnt it be awesome to see a big mural of G-Force, Jax, & Ray on the side of some high rise uptown?
