Larry's defense and Flip's offense.

Larry Murray

Agreed.

However, I'm surprisingly happy with Larry's offense, because even though he's missing shots, he's taking only open looks and he's fitting in very well. Once he's in basketball shape (which might be by the middle of the playoffs, I understand that) he'll be better than Flip. Larry won't shoot us out of a ballgame. Flip has.

dont know what the point of ever lettin hughes see the court again would be he's god awful. even at his best potential graham and dj have still been playin better recently. especially graham who has been ballin out of his mind for the last month when he gets a chance

Larry Hughes! Give him time....he will start playing alot better by the end of the season! He really helped bring us back the other night(nice 4-pointer! hahaha)

The answer is simple, who was a free agent in the middle of the season? Exactly, Hughes has better d, more height and a knack for stealing the ball. Hopefully when he is 100% then his offense and fg% may increase. Flip is obviously a better scorer, and is clutch down the stretch, but his d is anything but steller... But i think we would all rather have flip but lazza (aka larry hughes) isnt a bad fill in dont ya think?

Hughes. Both low % scorers but Hughes can play 3 positions, bigger stronger and better defender. Also isn't just a gun off the bench can make plays.

Agreed 100%. Lets not forget when all of us were screaming on here for Flip to stop shooting the ball so much.

imagine if we had a spot and we resigned Flip for next year with our present roster minus say Diop or Ajinca

The big advantage Hughes has over Flip, is his ability to defend when his shot isn't falling. But I'm not sure who I'd rather have, yet.

Loved Flip, hated that he had to go in the Bulls trade - he's like Jax in that he's that end-of-the-game type of player that can create a good shot (whether they make it is another thing, but they have the ability to get a quality shot on anyone). Having multiple types of these players in the playoffs can help you get over late game scoring droughts in those tough drag it out games.

Plus he can do this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZrCWsOqjDU

However, I'm gonna have to lean towards Larry here, and the key is consistency. Both have proven they have the ability to go off in a game for 20 points when they're on, which is a quality asset. While anyone can see that Flip is a much better shooter and more consistent offensive scorer, he's also not an automatic 15-20 point bench sniper like Jamal Crawford or Jason Terry. He has off games just as much as any "on" games, and so his consistency on the offensive end isn't that much more than Hughes (39% FG v. 35%... both equal ).

The biggest difference of course is the defensive side. Hughes was always an elite stealer, but watching him in the few games we've had him so far, he fits perfectly into our defensive philosophy. He's a long, quick, tall guard, and his anticipation skills are incredible both in the passing lanes and in trapping a ballhandler. While not necessarily a shut down defender, he's tall enough and quick enough to guard anyone 1-3. Along with Felton, Jackson, Wallace, Graham, and Thomas (even a motivated Boris), we may have the most athletic, deadliest pressing and trapping group in the league. And in going with my theme of consistency, its much easier to be consistent on defense than offense, because its more an effort thing than a "good-day", feel kind of thing.

And last, on the offensive side of things, Larry is a much better ball handler/ distributor than Flip. Most of the time, when Flip was handling the ball, you pretty much knew the shot was going up in a matter of seconds. However, with Hughes, he does have innate playmaking abilities when he's not having the burning desire to shoot, and I've seen him make several incredible passes. So having an additional ballhandler/playmaker/defender trumps having a clutch shot creator, especially when the playoffs are more of a grind it out, defensive type of affair anyway.

Over the last 5:
Hughes:9-39 in 20 mins per
Flip: 25-51 in 25 mins per

BUT ahh, yeah not yet anyway

Flip, and it's not even close.

Pughes is garbage and I still hope we will waive him before the playoffs start.

flip is the better scorer of the two but hughes is the better all around player, we have to remember that hughes hasn't played for most of the season and hasn't had a chance to get into any type game shape up til now. even when he was healthy with the knicks he might play every other game like nate robinson

Damn I miss Flip, Larry Hughes in the one game I've seen him play is horrible. He's still quick on the defensive end but I haven't seen him hit a shot yet.

I would say Flip but since he is gone, Stevie Graham deserves the burn over Hughes. Everytime I see Hughes enter the game I cringe because I know he sucks. Graham is way more active on the offensive end and is a big time hustler on the defensive end. Sit Hughes and let Graham get the burn.

Larry made ESPN's "All-Chucker" list. Here's a bit of info on the criteria...

There's a fine line between this type of player and genuine superstars. Nobody begrudges LeBron James (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1966) or Kobe Bryant (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=110) using a quarter of his team's possessions, because they use those possessions so effectively. It's when you get to the players who shoot indiscriminately, especially low-percentage shots early in the clock, that fans (and coaches) get upset. And on Larry...

Larry Hughes (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=356), Bobcats
Cleveland's superb beat writer Brian Windhorst had a trademark phrase for Hughes called "all roads lead to 40 percent." He only wishes he could shoot that well these days -- he still takes the same questionable shots he did as a Cav but is converting at just 34.5 percent.

He has the worst TS% of any player with at least 800 minutes and a usage rate over 19.
