View Full Version : Jeff Van Gundy: Bobcats in 6 or Magic in 7

Just watching the Cle/Chi game and JVG, Mark Jackson and Mike Breen were discussing what they thought was the most interesting matchup of the 1st round. Jackson said Miami/Boston b/c the C's fell off toward the end of the season and Miami got better.
JVG said our series was the most interesting and added that Mike Breen nudged him to mention it, lol... I found this particularly interesting considering who is coaching the Magic. Anyway, JVG said Bobcats in 6 or Magic in 7 games. He said we have the size to matchup with Orlando with Ratliff, Chandler, Mohammed and we can spread fouls out among those guys. He said whoever plays better will win, mainly between Jax and Vince... I'm liking this prediction, and I find JVG a lot more credible than most the other hacks on TV.
Just wanted to share...

Very cool of him to say this. I was listening with him and I do not exactly agree, but I think it will be the most interesting series in the first round for sure. I think the Bobcats may lose a Game 6 at home, but I sure hope not!

I hate it. We stand a much bigger chance as the underdog. Need all the motivation we can muster. I hope the media keeps silent about us, and when they do talk i want them to say we will get swept. stoke the flames.

I hope you guys KEEP getting all the attention. We strive off people putting us down. It happened last year: the "experts" actually proclaimed that the 76ers were gonna beat us. Then, of course, no one can beat the Celtics, away, in a Game 7. Then, who's gonna stand against the unstoppable Cavs tide? Not us, obviously.
Hell, the only one they got right was the Lakers matchup.

Im happy we get mentioned at all. Any time I hear "Bobcats" on ESPN or any other national tv channel I love it......we didnt even have a national tv game this year. It doesnt matter what they say about us though. We are in the Playoffs because we have worked hard and played good all year. If we cant handle being talked about, then we might as well just go home. Part of being a great team is living up to expectations. We are a good team....what do you really want people to do....ignore it?

We are a little bit better than Philly was last year buddy......
The reason why people are giving us a shot at all in this series is because we have one of the best defense's in the league.....wait the BEST defense in the league. Plus we have 4 centers plus 2 PF's who can put "Supergirl" on the line or get him into foul trouble by getting him frustrated. I know I and all the other experts could be completley wrong though..........but I honestly think we have a true shot. The least you could do is give the cats some respect. We HAVE to give the magic some respect, or else we will get blown out......

Hey, buddy, re-read my previous posts on the other threads.
Mmmkay?
Thug Jax is gonna disappear this series. Your best bet is to foul Howard, which is a concession that you can't play straight up.
And WE had the best OPP FG% at 43%.
And our teams were tied in defensive efficiency at 100.2.
We're arguing over the TWO best defensive teams in the league. That's not where the game's gonna be won. It's on the offensive end. Magic ranked 2nd in offensive production. Kittens? What was it, like 24th?
I have no doubt you're gonna make it interesting, but let's not have any illusions where this series is going.
[To everyone else with whom I've talked to: You know I haven't talked too much trash, and have remained respectful. But I'm not gonna sit by and let someone call me, or my favorite team, out.]

Yeah, you're really respectful calling the Bobcats, the "Kittens". No one cares about your useless opinion.
And so what if someone called you, or your team out. This is a Bobcats forum.
You seem to be really confident in your team, the Magic. So why can't Bobcats fans, be confident in the 'Cats? It's called being a fan.
So stop acting like it's wrong for us to be optimistic.

Stop getting so defensive, ya big baby.
You can be as optimistic as you want. And yes, this is a 'Cats forum... on the INTERNET. If you guys want to continue having a Kitten circle-jerk, and are afraid of differing opinions... well, I'm so sorry for you. You need to get out more... with all due respect. ;)

Fact of the matter is the Magic have ALL the pressure in this series. The Bobcats are a expansion team in their first playoff series, the Magic can only meet their expectations if they win a championship. Too bad the big bad mighty Magic aren't so confident to know they are going to win in a SWEEP.
But then again, the only time we played the Magic with our current roster (including Tyrus Thomas) was in Orlando and I'm sure the Magic fan will have an excuse why they lost (inspite of Gerald Wallace and a couple of our centers not playing). Gosh buddy, you should really be nervous, we've already 'reached' our goal for the year of making the playoffs, so everything else is just icing on the cake.
Stephen Jackson "makes loves to pressure" and we don't have any...think about how relaxed he's going to be.
Here's hoping Howard doesn't mind missing 10+ free throws a game, I'm sure with the coaching expertise of Stan van Gundy you are confident he'll have a positive in-game adjustment to counter Hall-of-Famer Larry Brown.

On BobcatsPlanet we are normally very respectful and have intelligent converstaions and sometimes arguments about things.....so Im not trying to be mean or anything but......Listen......your getting to defensive. I was just giving some facts....you dont need to be a smart*** and make a response like that. I realize I may be getting defensive but it needed to be said at some point.
ALSO, you dont need to tell me to go read your other posts on other threads.....what the heck is that supposed to mean? I dont care what you wrote on other threads.....whatever
ALSO, who called you or your team out? All were doing is responding or talking about the Magic. What do you expect us to do? Compliment the Magic about everything? lol
And dont get all mad at this post.....if you can defend the Magic, then I can back up my guys on here, BOBCATSplanet.

It's cool that you have your opinion. I respect that.
But don't come here spouting crap about people's real lives. That's low. Not to mention the people who spout that crap are the ones who are insecure. So chillax and stop taking everything so personal. There are also some kiddies on this forum, so no need to bring up raunchy crap.
So far you've been decent in your opinions, some light bantering is fine. Insults aren't. So either remain respectful or you'll cop a mouthful. And I can be pretty abusive when I'm angry.
To everyone else with whom I've talked to: You know I haven't talked too much trash, and have remained respectful. But I'm not gonna sit by and let someone call me, or my favorite team, out.
You also say that, first part is fine. Might I remind you YOU are on our turf? If we all come here and say Magic are scrubs, and you can't take it, then suck it up princess. You can then say "no, we aren't, here's why" and state facts, stats or whatnot.
When you came, you were decent. We could have intelligent convos and blast each other with stats and other factual crap. Now you've gone elitist and think you're better than everyone. Get off your friggin high horse, before someone cuts it's legs off.

Magic fucking suck and have literally a 0% chance of beating the Lakers or Cavaliers in a 7 game series. Dwight Howard has no skill, Vince Carter is a choker, Rashard Lewis is a $110 million dollar 6'9 Eddie House, and Jameer Nelson has less basketball IQ than Yinka Dare.
Your new arena is hideous, your cheerleaders are ugly, and your coach looks like Ron Jeremy on crack. Your franchise has existed for over 20 years and despite having NUMEROUS superstars you have never, and will never win a ring. Your fanbase is 95% bandwagoning fairweather faggots. Your superstar gets turned down for being too weird by porn stars.

He said whoever plays better will win
No shit
I think he's just saying this to piss off the Stan Van. But if he's sincere, that's shocking considering his, well, "friendship" with MJ.
Also, this trashtalking has been very entertaining  Keep it up, please!

No, you.
Must be nice having nothing to lose; knowing that you'll never win anything in a lifetime makes getting through the day a little easier... if not completely depressing. Like being a Knicks fan in the 90s.
Thug Piece of Shit Jax is a thug piece of shit.
Tyrus Basket-Case Thomas is a basket-case.
Raymond Felton (can't say anything bad about him, he was a Tar-Heel).
Gerald Wallace is cool; it's just too bad he won't win anything on your team.
Who else do you have? Nobody relevant, obviously...
Oh well. Sorry I can't be as quasi-clever as you; it's a little past my bedtime. Can't wait to read the cries of foul play and borderline "raunchiness" from MY posts, even when this trite nonsense I'm replying to gets completely overlooked. Double standards are fun.

Who wants head off JJ Redick all day??? i suppose he could comply... after all he must get bored sitting on that bench. Just get off the forum
JVG is a heck of a lot more credible than most of the "hacks" making predictions...and his analysis is pretty much right-on...I think the wings (not the centers) decide this series and the wings that play better are going to take the series for their team...

What? :g:
I know there are British idioms, and grammar choices, that I might not get, but this is just... what?
Jeff probably based his prediction knowing the 'Cats would adjust to whatever Stan did in game one...and also knows Stan will not get any sleep worrying about what LB will do to him from now on...I guess he knows the "panic" Stan would be feeling after the first game...:p

CatNation's post was a bit extreme. I would agree with many of those statements he made, though. It's difficult to compare the Bobcats and Orlando. The Magic have a somewhat bigger, and definitely better, market to work with. The crowd is a bit underwhelming, given how successful of a team they have.
They have also had two of the most dominant centers in their respective eras, Dwight and Shaq. They've surrounded these centers with quality players, and have a couple of Finals appearances (with quick exits) to show for it.
Moreover, they have little chance of getting back to the Finals, let alone winning it all. However, I have a GREAT deal of respect for the Magic franchise. They have consistently put together winning teams through various eras (Shaq, T-Mac, Dwight) and given their stars decent talent to work with. They have so many great (overpaid) pieces this year. Not signing Hedo and getting Vince was a bold move, but one that appears wise both short term and long term.
All things considered, there are probably about 8 teams I would take ahead of the Magic this year in the playoffs. Cavs, Hawks, Lakers, Mavs, Suns, Jazz (pre-injuries, at least..), Nuggets, and possibly the Spurs. They need more than Vince to get by.

...oh and wtf is he doing picking against his brother. That's kind of messed up. JVG is probably my favorite commentator today. He and Mark Jackson really balance each other off.

Jeff Van Gundy is the smartest basketball guy on T.V. I just wouldn't want him as my coach. he gets to stressed.
