Pretty Ugly isn't it?

My question is this, If nothing were done to try to stop it, How long would oil keep blasting out of the undersea pipe? Days, Weeks, Years?
I'm not advocating this, but what is the risk to the environment if absolutely nothing was done to stop it? Just curious.

21 days...now 22 days it's been leaking. BP has lost so much money already, and are loosing even more money with each second that gap remains open. Then they'll be forking out the cleanup bill. Sucks to be them.
As for the sealife, it's screwed. Nothing Greenpeace, Obama, or a dedicated group of environmental fellows could save that gulf.
As for the answer to Ziggy's question, probably half of your east coast would get destroyed by the oil? There's still a lot of oil in there, and it'll certainly spread.
There's talk that per US law BP is limited in their liability. I've heard around $75M and have heard other numbers all well below $100M. There's a big hold up in Washington to raise the limit as well. It's nuts.
Is that Mio from K-on in your avatar, BTW? Big fan of that show.

If anime data stream could somehow spill into the ocean, we'd witness mass aquatic suicide... true story.

Mr. Conspiracy smells something funny with the numbers BP is putting on about how much oil is really coming out. Thats alot of oil pumping out ever day, there is no way they can clean that up before it destroys the gulf and east coast line. BP just wants to clean up the oil on top of the water, but those pockets of oil bubbles underwater... well out of sight of of mind i guess. This is an enviromental nuke

HAHAHAHA!!!
That's great.
And kat, of course they're lying. Everyone in that position does. There's no way they can clean it up.

On the radio today an analyst said that it has already spilled as much oil as 7 or 8 Exxon Valdez

It's starting to wash up on shore now. I saw a picture on MSNBC yesterday of the underwater oil patch. One was 22 miles across and 33 miles deep. It's been pulling out millions of gallons for over a month. I don't think we can even picture in our minds what that really means for the gulf coast. And there's still a good chance some of the oil hits the NC coast

If this wasn't such a horrible thing it would be kindafunny. These people are seriously grasping at starws at this put. I thought they hit rock bottom when they tried pumping trash golf balls and old rubber tires into the hole. I hope someone is praying because Jesus might be the only thing left

I wonder how they are even going to stop the leak? At this rate, the oil will run out before BP even gets close to closing that leak. Not to mention with the oil prices already, this will kill the oil economy since prices will hike up with millions of gallons already lost.
Also wonder how bad it is going to be for the fishing market. Everything has probably died, and will take decades to recover I assume. Oil is a nasty thing to fight against.

That oil could pump out for ten yrs or more. If BP doesn't stop it, it could easily change life in the US. As far as the gas prices going up....BP should be the only company that rasies prices. If other gas stations go up too, Conspiracy!!!!!

That's the thing. BP seem to have thrown almost everything at it except the kitchen sink, and it's not helping.
At this point, we're probably looking at a relief well in August as about the only the way to stop it. As far as I know. Anything else will be luck.
Here's an example of how big the spill is overlayed on Australia for our international friends. You can enter in any city.

By August this thing will probably more than doubled from that.
Somebody needs to pay for this shit. And I mean literally but I want to see some mother fuckers locked up. And no more drilling offshore, of course. What a stupid idea.

Please God no!!!
Yeah it might stop the oil leaking at that site. But then it turns all the oil under the surface into nuclear sludge. What happens if the explosion opens another crack and the sledge starts leaking out. Thats basically the Grim Reaper on crack
