View Full Version : Who should we be rooting for in Tuesday's draft lottery?

In other words, which team winning the lottery would benefit us the most?

For example if New Jersey wins it, They would likely draft John Wall which could possibly free up Devin Harris to find his way into a bobcats uniform.

If the Hornets were to win it, they would have the rights to Wall, while already being overloaded at the PG spot with CP3 and Darren Collison. If we could weasel CP3 away from the Hornets, my life would be complete.

What scenario on Tuesday night potentially helps us out the most.

I'd say the Clippers winning. Because then, John Wall will never make an All-Star Game and we didn't miss out on anything.

But all hyperbole *cough*swedd*cough* aside, I'd go with either NJ or a western conference team. I'd like Minny to get a scoring bigman so either Love or Al are available.

I'll be rooting for NJ or NO as well. Also Minnesota.

Also Minnesota.

If they get Wall, omg. That'd be what, 4 drafted PG's in 2 years? Plus Sessions as a free agent?

what could or should we trade for cp3. it would take crash for sure, plus us taking back a terrible contract. maybe taking mek back.

my point is, if NO gets wall and feels they can take offers on cp3, we can't offer enough. even if he wanted to come here. i think our best bet for cp3 is outright free agency or a sign and trade in 2011 when he controls all the chips and force NO to make a trade or take nothing. i think our best strategy for getting cp3 is to get our cap right for 2012 AND have a desirable team for him to come to.

as for our draft/lottery aspirations, i don't care much about the lottery (concerning us). i think we should be targeting lower tier free agents and/or buying late first round/early 2nd round picks from teams looking to sell.

I'm pulling for Utah because, #1, NY fans will slap their heads and say crap! that should have been us. and #2, with the best PG already on their roster, it will put a fun little bidding war for other teams to try and get the pick.

Yeah, they could just keep the spot and take Turner at #1 but why lose out on some possible incredible compensation from other teams? Could be a very entertaining poker match to get the #1 pick out of their hands.

Actually I take it back, I'm rooting for the .000000000000000000000001% chance that the lottery fucks up and we somehow emerge with the #1 pick.

i think the bobcats will be adding cp3 to their roster within the next two years. im guessing FA, but we do have naz and tyson comin off the books and are valuable for teams trying to get cap space. idk we need him or someone of his caliber to beat the beasts.

Nets if we want a shot at Harris...but I really don't care...since some other team will offer the Nets a better package than us...

Utah. As my official second team, nothing would make me happier than to see them get the top pick and turn it into either a Wall trade, Turner, or a trade down for Wes Johnson. The added benefit of laughing at the Knicks for tanking, (that's right teej) and I'll be ecstatic.

Deron/Turner/AK47/Millsap/Okur
Deron/Matthews/Johnson/Millsap/Okur

I fully expect them to win Wall and then someone else beat us out for Harris.

I would love to get Devin Harris. He is utterly brilliant. Would be in the prime of his career too. So I hope Nets and that we snag Devin.

Yeah I know, which is why our chance of getting the #1 pick is that small, and it would be 0% but there's always that extremely small chance the lottery guys actually slip a Bobcats ball into the lotto. (kind of like how Harry Potter got his name in the Goblet of Fire).

The Russian looks comfortably gangsta up there. I'm wondering if some NBA exec is at the bottom of the Hudson right now.

I'm a little scared about Phili having such a high pick. Might be a nice time to move into management if you're an old coach who wants to be with his family more.

Arenas anyone? Gana, S&T Ray and Diaw, for Arenas and someone else.

ABSOLUTELY go for Arenas. I'd give up SJ if i had to. I know that sounds bad, but hes 34 and you may not get more for him later. he and diaw even for SJ. then try to get a servicable SG for ray ray. Or hell, id give up felton and diaw. The time is right because his baggage makes him more expendable to wash.

Teej you always beat me to it...
Arenas is 17.7 mil, and blatche is 3.2 so 21 mil...
so we sign and trade ray at 7.5, diop at 6.5 and diaw at 9, so 23 million, not sure if that falls within the trade salary guidelines but it makes us better and at less salary, albeit we are SCREWED long term as gilbert's contract ages.

Seriously, arenas will probably never get this low in value for the next 5 years...

You guys are onto something. Arenas has hopefully learned his lesson by now and has the lowest trade value in the league. I say we take him off their hands and try and get something out of it.

Arenas+McGee+Young (or a first)

for Diaw+Diop+whatever

I'm down.

It'd have to look something like this. Take Diaw and Diop. They're practically right at Arenas' salary anyways. Might as well put that money to work. Speaking of which, add in Lexy to save us a little money and bring back a 1st for our trouble. Not sure I care a whole lot for the few smaller contracts that Washington has, though. Nick Young would be cool, I guess.

I'm going to go ahead and say no to Gilbert Arenas. Isn't he still owed another $80 million dollars? No thanks. We have no idea if he can hold up for a full season anymore. He's a great player but I just feel dealing for him would be too desperate a move.

GoBobs
05-19-2010, 01:10 AM
Pass on Gilbert, that is just desperate and we don't need to make that move right now. Gilbert got that contract based on like six months of hot shooting which has been followed by two years of not playing. He has four more years at an average of 20 mil. If he doesn't work out the franchise is screwed for four years!

Right now we don't have a lot of flexibility but next summer we will as long as we don't do something like this. It is to greedy to go for it all right now. It just isn't a smart gamble.

I would rather just try see if we have anything with our young guys. In a year or two Hendo could be a better player then Gil.

Arenas has played like 43 games in the last 3 years and is owed something around 85 million.

Hell no.

Info from the Sixers' insider:

unreal...they were thinking of trying their hardest to trade up for turner and now they dont have to.

Evan Turner..book it........holiday and turner will be your backcourt for years.

They will look to move Thad and/or speights this offseason.

Iguodala will stay and play the 3.

Just got off the phone with my buddy.....the brass is ecstatic...they LOVE turner.

Jordan supposedly loved Young but he plays the same position as Crash. Speights would be a good "get" but I have no idea what for.

I'm betting Arenas will be on the Knicks radar. Curry + a future 1st rounder for Arenas would be great for the Knicks now and another step for Washington to continue to re-build by having the cap space to add a big free agent in the summer of 2011.

it's not the gun thing or his craziness that worries me. it is a 5 yr deal at 20 mil per for a point guard who hasn't played a combined 1/2 seasons for the past 3 years. also, something that isn't really talked about, when it was just him out, his team did better than when they had him healthy.

After having a night to sleep on it, and looking at how insanely huge his contract is going to be, I say no to Gil. I didn't realize he was going to be making over $22mil in the final year of his contract. WOW!

Back on topic, I wish the Jazz would've received a higher pick, but oh well. They're in line to pick up Cole Aldrich who will help them out from the get go. I'm happy

I understand what you guys are saying. But you cant trade for him anyway unless you unload comprable money, and its not like the guys we have who we would be willing to trade are worth what they are making either. And NEVER will a player of his potential be as tradeable as he MAY be now, despite what the wizards are saying. You can stick out your neck and try to improve or tread water and stay at 40-some wins.

Everyone keeps talking about chris paul and others- look, keep waiting. then jackson is old and you cant get anything for him, gerald wallace is older and hell, he could get 3 more concussions with his effort. Its not like Felton and DJ are setting the world on fire. And i think Henderson's athleticism has huge upside, but NEVER will he be capable of what Arenas can do when healthy.

The biggest concern i would have is his knee. Not the gun, or the salary. But, can he hold up physically.

Bottom line- we are paying chandler, diop, diaw etc. WAAAYY over what they deserve anyway, and arenas upside is MUCH hgiher, so if we could get rid of one or two of their contracts for a guy who has a high ceiling, why not take a chance?

If we sit still, we may not even be a playoff team next year. Then larry brown goes, Jax gets another year older, etc. I just think if you have an NBA team you need to be trying to win a title, or rebuilding. Not treading water.

each one of these guys is off of our payroll in 2 years. yes they are overpaid, but they become assets in their final year of contract. at worst, they are off the cap. arenas is an escalating deal for the next 4 years and tops at over 20 mil with a shrinking cap. no thanks.

I understand what u are saying....I just think there is a real chance we get worse next year.

Rememebr thought, that wash. is acting like they arent trading him anyway so this is all for the sake of argument anyway.

I just think the upsdie if he works out is worth taking the down side if he doesnt. If we make no big moves its not like we're winning 50 games next year anyway.

But i certainly understand both viewpoints. Its a matter of one's managerial style.

i think he will become a better citizen, esp. if LB stays, and if he is healthy he can go for 30 any time. I would chance it, but thats my opinion.
