I mean are we becoming the Knicks fanbase? Every other thread about something or other, somebody mentions "we shouldnt do so and so or such and such (which arguably makes our team BETTER NOW) because what would we do with said player/salary/whatever when we trade for CP3 in 2011 or sign him in 2012.
I know we got all excited and pantywet about it when Shinn was desperate to get the sale done, but that ship has sailed, and we keep talking about this possibility as an eventuality.
I hate to be a debbie downer, and getting CP3 would be fvcking awesome, but we're starting to sound a little silly.

The only CP3 I ever wanted was Candace Parker.
Chris loves Charlotte. He's always said so. Beagle's talked to him multiple times about coming here, and he's been as receptive as he can. He's clearly frustrated in NoLa, and I have no doubt if we were able to sign him (esp. w/ MJ) he'd come. That said, if we can get better now without screwing up the future, do it.

I don't necessarily disagree that we should try to assemble the best team we can for now, but I also don't think it's silly at all to consider how the moves we make or don't make now impacts our ability to make moves in the future. It would be one thing if him coming here was totally far-fetched. But given CP's connection to the area, MJ, and his current dissatisfacion in NOLA, we've got a realistic shot to be a player if/once he leaves. I don't think we need to be short-sighted and potentially waste that opportunity unless it's a deal we absolutely can't say no to, and I haven't seen anything proposed that falls into that category.
We gripe all the time on here about how past decisions have hindered our ability to take advantage of certain opportunities, whether it was trading for Diop, giving Mek a huge extension, etc. I think what you're hearing from some folks is simply that, we're finally close to being free from some of the constraints created by past bad decisions. Now that we can see the light at the end of that tunnel, the last thing I want to see is for us to trade for another big, long contract and take on a guy we might get 1-2 good years out of, and then miss out on a chance to get a great player all because we were impatient and short-sighted.
Besides, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what any of us thinks anyway. My only hope is that if the FO really feels like we've got a legit shot at getting CP, that we give ourselves that opportunity.

What if we were to land Carmelo next yr, have cap space coming the next and nab CP3. Jordan brand and the Bobcats would be on top of the world with good pieces around them

I just got wood.
We won't be able to get the cap for Melo, and he wants to be a Knick anyways.

Assuming Jordan works on the Knick part:
Chandlers 13 mill comes off the books.
Could there be some version of a Sign and Trade to snag Melo?
I guess doing that would fuck the cap for Paul a year later.

Yeah, we don't have any sense of cap until CP3 can opt out, but it really opens up when his contract is fully over. But we should still be able to get it when he opts out.
I think a lot has to do with how the CBA works. Hopefully they'll have that rule where you can get rid of one contract.

Just a stupid question ? Why can;t we trade foor CP3 now. NO has a much cheaper version and they sit in tax hell. Nazzs expiring and fillers might do it . They could drop about 3 milion off the books this year and we get CP3s big contract. We could all so save about two milion this year because of no need for Felton.
Can this be done some of you salery people step up ?

...because none of our picks have panned out and we don't have any picks to trade. We also don't have any salary room...so most likely anything we could offer in a package for CP could easily be beaten by another team.
If we want Paul here it'd most likely have to be in FA where he chooses it.

I was thinking something like Nazzs expiring and TT or Jax
With thair cap the expiring would look good .
I tend to think expirings this year have more value than most players.
Its been a lot of instrest in TT and a QO Same goes for Nazz.
Right now im sure they would give OK50 back in a second for Chandlers expiring.
Not many players are going to get offered max contracts any more . Its only going to be the upper class chosen few and the lower class whitch will be most players.
CP3 is the max type player but hes getting max money now. I don't think NO wants to eat the rest of that contract, now thet they got good cheap point.
Unless its a franchize type player whitch i don't think NO would be offered . Expirings would get this kid . Something like DJ and or Hendo might have to be added .

Thats a lot of salary coming off their books in 2011. Might not be as urgent for them to shop Paul.

I really think it would be a PR disaster to trade a star player like CP, especially in a straight salary dump. I think the only way they trade him is at the deadline of his opt-out year, and only then if it has become clearly obvious that he wants out and the only choice is to trade him or lose him for nothing. Even though Collison is good, he's not CP and if they don't show their fans that they've made every effort to try to keep him they'll lose that fan base forever, and become the Clippers in the process.

The hornets are not trading him and he is under contract until 2012/2013 when he has a player option for 18 mil.

Yeah getting CP3 in a trade was bright while he was trying to sell the team and cut salary, but now that the deal is done, we basically have no shot of getting him before he hits FA. Here's the ESPN link buddy

I would give both of my left nuts to get CP3, I would even burn my "Start DJ" coffee mugs and piss on my "Start DJ" snuggie.
