Would you consider bringing him in if you were MJ? I actually think I would.
You know that MJ knows that Ray was horrible in the Playoffs and that most of us(fans) were calling for his job. Since Ray is a Free Agent, and we have DJ, why not sign Arenas if he gets bought out? He is one of the best Point Guards in the league when healthy and all.
Next years lineup could be great:
Arenas/DJ
Jack/Hughes
Wallace/Stevie?/UPS
Diaw/Tyrus
Tyson/Nazr/Lex
Thats a great lineup...maybe 50 wins?
Im just saying that this is something that the Bobcats may consider down the road as the draft/10-11 season gets closer...

That's a lot of dough to take on. If we cleaned house with bad contracts, then maybe.
I actually think the guy is pretty bright and would be a good teammate. He just has a knack for making very stupid mistakes.
I don't know. Could be poison.

Ok I will try to make an attempt at something that isn't totally terrible for us.
step one
Bobcats trade: Nazr, Stephen Jackson
Sixers trade: Elton Brand, #2
step two
Bobcats trade: Elton Brand, DJ
Wizards trade: Gilbert
If Gilbert never plays well again we will have a young stud on the cheap for those four years Gilbert is killing our cap to make up for it.
Gilbert/Ray
Turner/Hendo
Wallace/Brown
Diaw/Tyrus
Chandler/Theo/Ajinca/Diop

Way too painful. Arenas would be 1/3rd of our team. We'd need to get rid of bad contracts in the process while maintaining talent so that we could at least contend. Trading talent for Arenas doesn't make sense.
And by bad contracts, I'm talking about Diaw, Gana, etc. -- guys paid a lot that do very little to earn it.
If he is bought out, how much are you expecting him to get? In my opinion his value is very low right now with the recent scandal. May I also add that he hasn't played a full season in 3 years? He's not going to get a huge contract, it'll be more along the lines of a 2 year deal, and if he shows he can stay healthy, stay out of trouble, and put up big numbers, he'll get a bigger deal after that. Teams are not going to invest long term in him right now.

There is no way Arenas would ever go for a buy-out, he will never see that kind of money again in his life. If he was boughtout, I would give it a go..we are the team for castaways, and I don't mind that.

I would pull the trigger on a Arenas trade but then we have to get rid of Jax.

I actually like that trade, but there's no way that the Wiz are going to give up McGee.

That's not how buy-outs work. Both parties have to agree to an amount. When you see a buy-out happen, usually it's so a guy can leave the final year or two of a contract to go play somewhere else, knowing that the new contract will make up the difference of the buy-out amount. Arenas has NO reason to accept a buy-out unless the Wizards felt like getting Arenas out of the locker room is worth $80m.
He already has the massive contract (Hoops Hype is saying 4 years left at around $20m/yr.). We would be committed to $80m over four years. That's not something you play around with, especially when the new CBA could lower the salary cap.

Perhaps we could play with two basketballs? In all seriousness, I do think that Jack and Arenas are somewhat redundant and I don't want this team on the hook for a truly monster contract that gives us a backcourt that averages approx. 7-8 turnovers/game.

I like Gilbert. And I think that he will be coming out to play inspired ball after the guns incident. He will be trying to prove he is a terrific teammate, under control and not a hot head, and I think LB will think he is a model citizen the way he will play. I'd take him on if there is any way to move a couple contracts so we pay him reasonably.

I agree with the fact that he will probably come out and play inspired ball, but its his durability that's at question here. He hasn't been healthy in years, and a 4 year 20 million contract is massive. It's even fatter than Sean May...I wouldn't take the risk personally. Simply too much that could go wrong.

you must have missed the memo, we only take on massive contracts when the player sucks ass.

Okay lets take a look at this from a bigger picture....
We trade TC and use the Raja Bell exception which total about 14 million to grab elton and the 2nd pick.
We then trade Diaw and Diop for Arenas.
Then we look like this
Arenas/DJ/??? (we know larry likes 3)
Jax/taylor/Henderson
GW/Taylor (assuming)
Elton/Thomas
Nazr/Lexy/maybe elton/tt on a small lineup.
We'd have great and all star reserve level players in all starting positions yet not have a "super star" which is LB's way. We'd have decent depth and flexibility, especially if we pick up larry hughes or flip.
Arenas can play 2 if there is an injury, DJ shoots like a 2 frequently. Jax can play 3, GW can play 4, elton and thomas could play 5 on a smaller lineup or in a pinch, lexy plays euro style all the way to the 3 point line... We'd be a very flexible, hard to defend team. We'd just have LOTS of long term money tied up, but trading jackson for future picks at the deadline if Taylor shows he's really really ready to start and perform would save some $, and we could also move nazr's expiring for a pick as well, again saving some money for future stuff and keeping us out of the tax.

Even in the wildest of fantasies, I can't see Diop being traded for anything remotely good. You couldn't even trade Diop for a prison sentence - at least in jail you're not forced to pay...

Ahh ok, yeah in that case I don't want him.

Only terrible contracts we had were EO50, Radmanovic and Diop. Diop is still here, EO50 is sucking dry the Hornets and Radmanovic was better than Ammo and Shannon Brown (Ammo due to the fact he failed unfortunately, and SB because he didn't fit in LB's system).
We have the Diop contract because LB wanted him...and the only way to get rid of it will be taking one worse back...I'm not for that...

No thanks on Agent Zero. He can play, thats clear but he has always come with to much drama. He only has a couple more productive yrs left. His contract would put his in a deeper hole then Bugs bunny and they might try to raise those $12 nose bleed seats and i can't have that

Why do you think he only has a couple more productive years left?
