View Full Version : Let's throw this idea out there.
Watching the Boston/Orlando game last night I had a sudden thought. While I think it is important we re-sign Felton, let's say for whatever reason we don't, what do you think about bringing in Nate Robinson and having him and DJ have a competition for the starting job. Nate probably isn't a Larry Brown type point guard but at the very least he brings instant offense off the bench. As with DJ, yes he's struggled, but we've speculated this could be due to a lack of confidence, if we did this it would certainly give him boost of confidence knowing he would have the chance to start.
This whole idea is probably not a good one, but its the offseason and my friend and I just randomly started discussing the possibility of Nate as he torched Orlando in the 2nd quarter, so I thought I'd bring it up here.
Another idea would be bringing him in as a backup for Felton should we resign him, of course that would mean shopping DJ.
So...thoughts?

Nate's too streaky. Plus, he'd want to be the man here, which he doesn't have the talent for. A team like the Celtics is perfect for him: a bevy of star veterans that he can disappear behind when he sucks, only to look like a star the few times he makes a real appearance.
I don't like him for a team like ours that requires chemistry.
Although, since you mentioned Orlando, Bass recently expressed dissatisfaction with his role there. Perhaps we could make a move for him.

He didn't get along with LB in New York, though he did start 26 games for LB in 05-06. I was thinking the same thing last night, but then I realized, Boston has a bunch of veterans and 4 Hall of Famers. Charlotte has some vets, but the locker room is much more wide open for cancers. Having Tyrus and Jack on the same team is bad enough, add in Nate and we'd be the Wizards.
Yeah those are good points, and dnbman, I like the idea of acquiring Bass, I wonder what Orlando would want for him?

I don't know anything about his off the court demeanor, but on the court he's a me-first type guard, He's also very concerned about the number of touches he gets, which is why the media keeps replaying how Doc Rivers had to keep telling Nate to hang tight and be ready. He's night the kind of guy that buys into a team philosophy, or, at least, he's never shown the ability to do that. Instead, he's the ultimate spark plug off the bench for when the offense is sputtering.

add in the fact that at 5'9'' he can be a liability on def. side of the ball
what has Nate done that makes him a cancer?
He's never made a coach happy with him, Doc is the closest to that.
In New York, his nickname is "Lil' Him." That should say a lot.

LOL. I know he's a "me" dude but this picture just sums up why I love him hahaha.
Many folk talk about getting Bass but does it not give you pause that this guy (Bass) could not beat out Matt Barnes...or even get consistent rotation minutes?
Every indication is Bass has a very low BB IQ and had difficulty with defensive schemes...they would be just as difficult here...

I guess you can say he is immature but none of the answers given validates Nate as a cancer. The Celtics bench Nate to save $2 million dollars. He would not have received his $1 million Bonus as a Knicks. If Nate had started his NBA career with the Bobcats I bet no one would be calling him a cancer right now. He'd probably be a fan favorite.
If anything, Larry Brown is the Cancer. All those terrible contracts he forced the Cats to acquired so they “can play the right way”. Plus he probably hate white players. But coaches are never refereed to as cancers.

I don't fully get what your point about the money. He's not a cancer in terms of a bad person who destroys team chemistry. He's a possible cancer in that his game is predicated on scoring and getting touches. If he's not doing that, he doesn't contribute much and can get fussy. His scoring off the bench is nice, but not for the money he demands.

The terrible contracts are a wash. Diop is the only one he acquired that I really didn't feel good about. Of course, we sent out Hammer, who made about $5 and didn't play much. We added more years, but at least Diop had the potential to sure up our terrible center.
I don't know what you mean about probably hating white players. He just wants good players, period. Coaches aren't judged as cancers because they're seen more as managers who either are good or not. The reason people refer to players as cancers is because they can be there and contribute, but have a negative impact on the team.

In the years I've watched Nate, I've never got the impression he was about anything other than Nate. That absolutely rubs teammates the wrong way, thus the cancer label. From what I've seen of his actions and demeanor on the court, I can't say I disagree with that label. I would greatly prefer he stay far, far away from the Bobcats.
We must have different ideas on what a "cancer" is because I don't see someone coming in, changing the culture of a losing franchise, posting a winning record, turning a talented player into an All-Star and guiding a team to their first-ever playoff appearance as a "cancer." I call that progress.

I was on the Bass bandwagon when it looked like we might get him last off-season, but he's now been on 3 teams and never garnered a lot of PT. At some point, it's not because of fit it's because of the player. I'll pass.
Edit: Pretty much what BRNC said.

I would like to have him. It all depends on the price.

Nate or Bass? Either way I agree with you, depends on the price.

Bass is a no-go. Low BBIQ (Perhaps lower than Lexis) and struggles to have a defensive mindset. Bass isn't a LB player, and I don't want him here.
