View Full Version : Workouts
from Bonnell, the players we worked out today. I know Dyson, but I'm not familiar with any of the others. I don't know much about anyone at GT except Favors and Lawal, but he can't be good...
By the way, here are the players scheduled for the workout:
Jermaine Beal – Vanderbilt
D’Andre Bell – Georgia Tech
Jerome Dyson – Connecticut
Landry Fields – Stanford
Kevin Palmer – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Jamar Smith – Southern Indiana

*Edit: Maybe there's 2 Jamar Smiths...updated to who I think is the correct one.
I've liked Dyson in the UConn games I've seen, he made Thabeet look competent.
And he fits the LB mold.

I was just thinking, what happened to bobcats.com (you know the teams OFFICIAL site) giving info on the players brought in, you know, a short bio, positions, measurements, where they went to school, maybe even what the coaches saw/didn't see. Seems they are more interested in the lady cats (albeit some of us are too).
I agree they are giving poor coverage this year...a shame to since they need to generate some excitement since we lack draft picks...

Probably because these guys are unknown and will be drafted in the late 2nd round, if at all ...and will suck anyway.
So who cares, we don't even have a pick yet.

There are players drafted every year that are not particularly "known" that stick in the league and contribute...not to say any of these guys will but it is fan interest that you want to encourage...giving no "coverage" and no information does the opposite...
More workouts. I like Booker. Not so much for anyone else.
The lack of a draft pick won't keep the Bobcats from conducting more pre-draft workouts. The schedule for Monday:
Trevor Booker – Clemson
Derrick Caracter – Texas-El Paso
Gavin Edwards – Connecticut
Magnum Rolle – Louisiana Tech
Latavious Williams – NBA D-League
Desmond Yates – Middle Tennessee State
Rhetorical question of the day: Will anyone from the Bobcats brain-trust make themselves available for interviews.

Booker is too small. Character is the beet player on that list and I've heard some good things about Williams.
Solid group of late draft talent.

Wake's Ishmael Smith auditions for Bobcats (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/06/08/1486618/wakes-ishmael-smith-auditions.html)
Rajon Rondo-like?
Ishmael Smith has heard that before. Needless to say, he considers it a compliment. He also understands the analogy to Boston Celtic Rondo – an athletic point guard with a great speed dribble and a shaky jump shot.
Charlotte Bobcats coach Larry Brown made that Smith-Rondo comparison Tuesday, after Smith – the former Wake Forest and Central Cabarrus High star – auditioned for the team. The Bobcats don’t currently have a pick in the June 24 draft, but they do need more bodies at point guard.
"He does a few things you can’t teach (with) his athleticism and quickness," Brown said of Smith. "I hate to compare people to Rondo, but Rondo is lightning quick and athletic. He affects the game a lot of ways."
But also like Rondo, Smith will enter the NBA with a significant question about his shooting. Smith’s 3-point percentage dropped in each of his four seasons at Wake Forest, from 35 percent as a freshman to 22 percent as a senior. His foul-shooting plummeted from 79 percent as a junior to 49 percent as a senior.
49% FT? My God...Mek's better than him!
...and not one mention of "Dammit Larry...talk to me".
Needless to say if we got Ish then Jeff Capel would need to be paid overtime.

Ishmael Smith DX Profile (http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Ishmael-Smith-1212/stats/)
Dude is 155 lbs!
What do you guys know about him for those of us that don't watch college ball? Don't see him in the mocks...so he's figuring to be undrafted?
I like the nickname potential...he can have one of what I've always thought was one of the coolest out there: Rocket Ishmael. After talking to some guys around here it seems apt (one guy said he's underrated and fast as hell).
I see he's a local product from Concord.

Are we bringing in people that are expected to go undrafted? I seriously hope they aren't trying to trade up to get any of these names mentioned above
