Beasley seems to be available to the highest bidder. The Heat want him gone. Should we try to make a trade for him? He still has loads of potential and is by no means a bust or anything. He has alot of scoring ability and rebounding abilty.
The Nets turned down a Dooling for Beas trade which was offered by Miami earlier in the year. So judging by that, the Heat dont want a whole lot in return. I was thinking we could trade Diaw and a future pick(yes trade another pick....2nd rd tho) for Beasley and big filler contract to even out the salaries.
Then we resign Tyrus, and bring Beasley off the bench as a 6th man or whatever so we have this rotation:
Augustin/???
Jack/Hughes
Gerald/Graham?/UPS
Tyrus/Beasley
Chandler/Nazr/Diop/Lex
Or something similar......*This is assuming we DONT resign Raymond*
So what do you guys think? I realize Beasley is not really a LB type player but he's just a young guy who has lots of skill and potential, that we can get a low price. I say we give him a chance.

The supposed trade idea...which is being discounted by Miami's beat reporter...was for open cap space this year along with the added plus of taking away space from potential FA target rival.
They want NO salary back. Dooling (like Delonte West in Cleveland and Ryan Gomes in Minny) have unguaranteed deals; if bought out before July 1st they all would only cost 500k instead of their listed contract.
We're not getting him unless it's in some 3 way with a team that does have instant space.

yeah, the heat only wanted Dooling because he had a non guaranteed deal, and they could buy him out for like 300k that wasnt even against the cap....that would leave Daequan Cook as the only player the heat would have under contract next year (since wade can and will opt out)
going into free agency with only 2.2 million on the books would make them the most powerful team cap wise....we have nothing that fits what they want

They actually did it for two reasons.
1. Dooling's partially guaranteed contract that would be bought out
2. Knocking New Jersey down the free agent ladder a few rungs by having them take on an additional $4.5mil

Pat Riley is pretty crafty, but Jersey could still sign 2 Max players even if they brought Beasley on. I doubt Jersey will pull in 3 Max guys, so if there was a trade going down I doubt this would have messed with their plan too much.
Riley needs to move Beasley in order to pull in 3 Max players, and he probably has the best chance (doubt even they will though).
Most think he's gone regardless.

No one said the Heat is. After that report came out on ESPN’s podcast, I did some checking. Foremost, the Nets weren’t interested. But a source familiar with the situation said the Heat never made the offer. So the Heat isn’t cashing in on Beasley, at least yet. But if there is one year to maximize cap space, this is it. So it certainly is the type of move that yet could be considered.I think there was discussion even tho there was no "offer". Miami will get into the best position they can to get everything out of this offseason.

It's not about the max FAs. It's about the supporting cast. Most teams don't covet a guy like Beasely who has all of his off the court issues and hasn't really played as well as he was hyped to do.
LeBron, Bosh, and whoever else they target are of higher value than Beas. Not that that's a good idea because I think he still has a shot to be special, but they have a different framework in place.

Are you saying the Nets didn't want him because of fit, or that he's not worth the cap space? Sure the Nets have Yi, but don't you figure most teams would consider Beasley worth that?
But yeah, in the Nets' particular case I can see them considering fit. They do have a decent cast as is so if you can add Amare and a couple 5-10 prime support players they could be back in the chase next year.

Then it IS about the max FAs! :p
Right now the Bulls, NY, NJ, Miami and yes...even the Clipshow have high aspirations to remake their team by snagging some of the high end guys. If Miami really wants to get that space I'm sure Minny would offer Gomes pretty quickly.

He's not worth the cap space. He's done nothing but underperform and show that his head isn't screwed on properly. The Nets have enough money to throw at better supporting pieces without risking team chemistry on a guy like Beasley.

No. It's likely a given that they're going to sign a guy to the max because there are more big name players than there are teams with space. Unless they get Joe Johnson or Evan Turner slips to them at 3, there won't be any need for Beasley. If they sign any available PF, Beasley is unnecessary. If they draft any of the bigs mocked from 3-8 (all can play PF or SF), Beasley is unnecessary. At this point, there just isn't any need for him. He's way down the list in terms of any "target list" they have.
Even still, if they didn't manage to pick up ANY big names, they'd probably rather put the ~5mil towards someone else like Drew Gooden and Udonis Haslem, or even guys like Al Harrington, Matt Barnes, and Lou Amundson.

How many Max guys do you think are out there?
LBJ
Flash
Amare
Bosh
JJ
Then you got near Max in Boozer...and I guess you put in Lee after him?
Teams with Max space off the top of my head:
NY - 2
Miami - 2 & possibly 3
NJ - 2
Chicago - 1
LAC - 1
Minn - 1
Then you have Houston...who was this close to trading for Amare at the deadline (heard the deal arrived late to the NBA).
Dallas has the DUST chip (13 million in instant cap savings), and LAL is supposedly in the hunt with Bosh (Bynum S&T).
Then you have to consider that Flash will probably stay and LBJ & Amare could stay.
I think the odds are a few teams will miss out on a Max guy this offseason. Considering how NJ has garnered a pretty bad reputation AND they'll be playing in "no man's land" the next two years I think it's very conceivable they don't get a big name.
I don't think Beasley's stock is quite as bad as you say. As disappointing as he's been he did garner a 16.1 PER and was good for almost 5 Win Shares. Maybe NJ doesn't want him, but the teams who are all about youth like Minny I'm sure would like to have him.
There are certainly more teams with max slots than guys that deserve max money...it just means (IMO) that second and maybe a few third-tier players will be over-payed...

This.
I didn't say max guys, I said big name guys.
LOL SWedd...kinda makes you wonder what a "name" will bring in money this year...I expect JJ and Ray will both be over-payed just to name a couple...
