Does this guy really love attention or what? How about you win some rings before you have a 1-hour ESPN special?

Shoot, if Bill Russell pulled something similar (with his 11 rings more than Lebron), he'd have his own satellite dish plan, much less a 1-hour special

Not to mention his one hour special is in primetime. It's not like we all don't know hes staying in Cleveland anyways.

I wish ESPN had the balls to say 'uhm, no' and then follows that up with 'you can have 5 minutes on EPSN classic on Sunday between bowling and billiards.' :)

Uhmm, wasn't the whole point of his prime-time announcement to funnel the proceeds from the sponsors to a charity of some sort (or have I misinterpreted his intentions)?

That's part of it, but I think it's safe to say this as much to do and more with Lebron's people wanting to market him even more.

The funny thing is, I think this debacle, including the summer free agency period, is doing more to hurt Lebron's image with casual fans than help it. My father in law just told, without me asking, that after all of the free agency news, he doesn't care about basketball at all.

It's a shame, because Lebron is the kind of player on the court that makes you want to watch basketball again.

You're right on with that assessment. I'd go even further to say this LeBron debacle may hurt NBA basketball as a whole. How many people are going to try to copy LeBron's antics? How many egos will grow and grow and grow? It's going to piss off the fans and definitely alienate the casual observers

I agree with yal but it should be expected from a drama queen

Do you think this will ignite the latent vanity whore spark within others come next FA-hoopla cycle?

Methinks, no.

The Bron bastard can pull this off because he is a global basketball phenomenon and will be getting away with impunity as long as there are even bigger bastards out there lapping up his every word, gesture and/or smirk. Nothing is getting out of hand, this is naught but a well performed stunt, his behind-the-back block of the unsuspecting fans who far outnumber the casual (and, more often, better versed) observers.

I don't hate him personally, I just hate that which he inspires in others less inclined to think for themselves.

Next we'll see a 15-minute special on ESPN 45 about Sam Vincent's choice of new job: 1) Dude who turns on ice cream machine at Golden Corral, 2) Back shaver to the stars, 3) point guard for the Knicks

I think the politically correct term for the job is "Body Hair Engineer"
