CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Stephen Jackson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=378) sent out a couple of messages on Friday, the day after LeBron James (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1966) shook the NBA with his decision to form a superstar trio in Miami.

First, vacation time should be over for his Charlotte Bobcats (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=cha) teammates now that they're in perhaps the most powerful division in the league.

Second, don't crown the Heat champions just yet.

"They're going to be great," Jackson said. "It's going to be good for basketball. It's going to be good for the city of Miami. It's going to be exciting for the game. At the same time, they've got to go out there and win games just like every other team."

While he thinks James should have signed with Chicago or stayed in Cleveland and "showed a little more loyalty," Jackson isn't backing down from the challenge of being in the same Southeast Division as a now stacked Heat team that also includes Dwyane Wade (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1987) and Chris Bosh (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1977).

"I'm not one of those guys who's going to lay down just because they put all those guys on the same team," Jackson said. "I don't think anybody on my team is going to lay down. We're going to come out and play. Everybody has respect for those guys, but at the same time you have to win games to get respect on the court."

So far the Michael Jordan-owned Bobcats have lost ground in what's been a league-altering week of free agency. While Charlotte is hamstrung from making a splash because of salary cap woes, its rivals have made giant moves.

None is bigger than what the Heat accomplished. The team that was fighting for playoff positioning with Charlotte late last season re-signed Wade, got Bosh and then were the winner in the LeBron sweepstakes when the two-time league MVP announced Thursday night he's bolting the Cavaliers.

"If I were LeBron, I would have gone to Chicago or I would have stayed home and showed a little more loyalty to my city and my team," Jackson said. "But I'm not LeBron. That's the best decision for him and everybody has to live with it."

That's when a defiant streak kicked in for Jackson after he mingled with kids at Jordan's fantasy basketball camp at Time Warner Cable Arena. After averaging a team-best 21.1 points last season and leading the Bobcats to their first playoff berth, Jackson isn't ready to slip into the background in a division that also includes Dwight Howard (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2384) and Orlando, Atlanta with Joe Johnson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1007) and Washington with rookie John Wall and Gilbert Arenas (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=974) returning.

"I love it," Jackson said. "This is what I play for, to overcome odds. ... If you think you can just wait until September to get ready? You've got to start getting ready now."

The Bobcats team that begins next season is likely to have a different look. Point guard Raymond Felton (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2753) is expected to leave in free agency. Center Tyson Chandler (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=984) could be traded to free up cap space. Forward Tyrus Thomas (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3032) is a restricted free agent.

"We're still trying to shake our roster up," general manager Rod Higgins (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3734) said.

No matter what they look like, they'll face a task four times a year that few could have envisioned: James, Wade and Bosh on the same team.

"The feeling of knowing that they're stacking this team and we still have the ability to go out there and beat them, I think that's something that I'm working for," Jackson said. "I think individual defense comes into play a lot now that you have those three great one-on-one guys on the team, great playmakers on the team.

"Saying all that it, can be done. They're definitely still beatable."

I don't know about you guys, but I love this. I love our team. This gets me very excited for the upcoming season. We are in the toughest division, and our guys are going to bring it every night. They're a bunch of cast-offs who do nothing but hustle.

Charlotte and the state of North Carolina loves basketball. Miami loves cocaine, hookers, and apathy about basketball.

Let's do work.

I like Jack taking ownership. This is his and Crash's team, and they seem to be stepping up.

That's what I'm talking about. It's no surprise at all that he's got that confidence... but I still love hearing it.

If this doesn't get you hyped for the upcoming season then I don't know what will. Love this, Miami has put a bulls eye on its back and Jackson is just one of many speaking out against them. I for one cannot wait till we play them this year.

Stephen Jackson on losing weight, adding Kwame, and MJ’s executive decisions (http://dimemag.com/2010/08/stephen-jackson-on-losing-weight-adding-kwame-and-mjs-executive-decisions/)

Jax playing the Company Man.

Seriously, I love the almost unquestioned respect he has for LB.

Love the things he's said this offseason. If he still believes this is a playoff team, I believe.

It's crazy he goes from wacko jacko to role model and team leader. I like what he's saying!

Seriously, I love the almost unquestioned respect he has for LB. I don't love the respect, I love the man because he still has respect for a coach that, if he had his way, would be elsewhere. Jack is a much better man than me for that. Also, his comments on Kwame were fantastic. I think it's time Larry made his captaincy official starting this season.

As I said on RGM, I'm concerned with how much Jack respects LB. It seems like LB is keeping him in check because he's a HOF coach. What happens when LB leaves after this coming year and we replace him with Hanners?

Just so we're clear, I'm not an advocate of signing Hanners to replace LB.

If that's your home run pick, who else do you interview? Mo Cheeks and Marc Iavoroni?

Hello Byron Scott. I figured they will implode at some point this season, all Byron needs to do is hint to reporter that Lebron was smart to hitch up his wagon to anything leaving town so he didn't have to work with a bi-polar owner...that combined with a 30-52 should get him fired.

Then we hire him, CP3 wants to play again for his 'father-figure' and the rest will fall into place.

Scott spending time on the golf course rather than with his team is not my idea of a coach I'd like leading our team...I'd rather give Hanners a chance...

Jack respects coaches who respect him and recognize his game.

In New Jersey, Byron Scott had a vendetta against Jack for becoming good friends with Starbury and consequently his minutes diminished as the season wore on - and not for basketball reasons.

In San Antonio, Jack first become comfortable with (then AC) Mike Brown, who was forthright with him and helped him realize the importance of defense. Popovich is a meritocratic coach who demands hard work and selflessness, and Jack clearly respects him a lot.

In Indiana, Carlisle was too much of a micro-manager and Jack's tendency to freelance (even though most of the time it worked out positively) strained their professional relationship. However, Carlisle and Jack are close on a personal level.

In Golden State, he definitely revered Nellie from the jump and appreciated the faith he placed in his star players. Things went a bit sour when he wanted out but most of that stemmed from false promises explicitly given to Jack and Ellis by management.

And now, LB - for the most part - lets Jack be Jack. If you give Jack the right amount of freedom, you can suggest things to him (like losing weight and becoming more of a facilitator early in games) without it appearing to be unwarranted criticism. It's a harmonious pairing thus far and I think we can all see a positive dynamic between LB, Jack, and Crash.

Casey is a very, very good coach. Probably the most undeserved firing in recent memory. Took a completely depleted Wolves team and made them look competent in a strong western conference before their idiot owner fired him because Casey wouldn't golf with him.

Yet somehow he can't even get halfway to another job...

Or perhaps no one is willing to take the chance. I personally don't mind Hanners taking over after LB, he's probably learning truckloads under LB and with another season under his belt could possibly step up.

On topic however, great that Cpt Jack is like that. True professional that guy, can't wait to see a leaner fitter and faster Jack tearing up the court with an improved TT, DJ, GW, Hendo, UPS.

Thats hardly an indication. As an assistant coach, he's done nothing but gain respect and looks to be in line for the Dallas job if Carlisle can't get his stuff together.

But if you actually look at the circumstances that surround his firing from the Timberwolves job, its easy to see that it was one of the most undeserved firings of the decade. After picking up the pieces to the Flip Saunders/McFail mess and starting to get his absolutely terrible team turned around he managed to get that team to 20-20 in the west. Just take a look at the roster (http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/MIN/2007.html)

After that, when the owner gets mad at him for telling him the roster is trash, to lower expectations, and "NO, I'm too busy coaching to play golf with you right now sir", he gets fired - and his replacement *gasp* has the team playing shameball for the rest of that season and the next (Wittman went on to be 38-105 before he got fired).

Casey should've got the Clippers job, but we all know how Sterling is...

Since I guess this'll be the thread for offseason Jack updates...

Looks like he's slimmed down, definitely. (From Ludacris' celebrity game w/ CP3, Chris Brown, etc.)

Is that Luda's new drank? Heard he did an ABC in-store promotion in High Point a couple months back.

Jack looks to have lost that weight that he carried last year. Big kudos to him for putting in the hard work (unlike Diaw and May )
