6/42 I think. The rumor I saw this AM said he'd take 4/28. Basically the same amount averaged but less years.

tony parker has also been rumored to want to join the knicks. Melo apparently wants to be there too, they could easily become a powerhouse in a short period of time. I think Raymond will do well with the uptempo game, but I also wonder if this will be too much pressure for him. All they were able to get was Amar'e, which is nice, but they lost Lee and got Randolph, who isn't bad, but probably won't totally replace Lee's scoring. Even if he does, Ray will probably be expected to carry a decent load offensive and hit his open 3's. With the NY fans being so hateful, I could see this getting ugly for Ray pretty quickly. Maybe not as bad as Duhon, but pretty rough. Ray might be one of the leagues top assist men next year, but I'm not sure he'll be able to shoot well enough to keep that job for more than a year or so.

If he's not the main guy and the team has some scorers he'll be fine. He shot well this year because he was the 3rd option. If he went to the Knicks he'd at least have Stoudamire and.....Galinari?
He also would benefit from an uptempo offense.

Just saw this:

7 million a year range....goes to show we could have re-signed him. Looks like Larry Brown didn't think he was the PG to take them to the promised land. I loved me some Felton but I have to agree, especially after the Jameer Nelson debacle in the playoffs.

You could be right, but this doesn't prove it. We've long known that due to our cap situation we very well likely could only retain 1 of Tyrus or Felton. They obviously chose TT.
The only way we could really have known was if we hadn't retained TT and still didn't talk to Felton.

Looks to be $7 million a year. We'll miss you, thank you for playing with all your heart.
Look for this to start a post trend, but what was your favorite Felton moment??
Mine had to be when he got in a car crash and came back to play just a couple days after when he should have stayed out longer....goes to show his toughness. That, or when he played during the summer league to get with his team early....goes to show the heart he had.
Good luck!!!

My favorite moment was a non-game moment. I was in Vagas one summer and I was on my way back home. I was about to board the plane and I looked behind me and who was standing there? Raymond. I asked how he was doing and told him I was a huge Bobcats fan. He stood there and talked to me for about 15 mins. He asked me what hotel I stayed in and if I had fun. It just seemed real genuine. I respect that. He could have just been a dick like some of these other players. Since then, I've been a big fan. I wish him all the luck though.

I really don't get this. It'll be weird not having Felton around. He was like Mr. Bobcat more than anyone except maybe Crash.
At least Felts didn't have a need for a one-hour meet up with Jim Gray.
But I'm happy he's going to the Knicks as much as anywhere else.
I just can't quite picture DJ as our starting PG; seems very weak. I'm more intrigued about Sherron Collins....but....ssshhhheeeeezzz.
The NBA has gone bonkers. I wish we could just let the Lakers and Heat run around the country playing exhibitions all glitzy high end media show with intense audio video and dancing bears. Then all the other teams play competitive basketball where fans can feel and hear the sound of the ball bouncing on hardwood and the players grinding it out.

Thank you Raymond for being the Point Guard who got us to the playoffs. People wanna hate on you for being outplayed by a playoff-seasoned PG on a great team in a 4-game series. Who freakin' helped get us there in the first place?
As far as a favorite specific memory? Too many to count.
He entertained me with his heart and hustle nearly every time I went to the arena.
And I really appreciate the skill improvements in his game the last two seasons.

Sad to see a guy go who always handled himself with class. Along with Wallace, Felton has been the heart and soul of the team these last few years.
I give him about a 50% chance of breaking out and becoming a star next year. (he is gonna need to because Amare's knees are not going to last very long)
Good luck Ray, thanks for the memories.

Lot's of ups and lots of downs...but I agree with the gist of the thread and only want to remember the good things.
My best was the Indy game his first year (I think...could have been 2nd) where he torched the hell out of them.
After that was the CLE game where afterwards LBJ told him that if he kept it up he would be a star. Heh...that probably won't happen, but that night he sure looked it!
Next was a home game where he badly sprained an ankle, I think they hauled him off on a stretcher yet he was back to play the 2nd half.
Iron man.

I posted this in the thread I made when I saw he agreed to a contract with them... But, apparently 90% of this board has me on ignore list, but anyway...
Just reported on ESPN bottomline... It didn't mention years or salary, so I'm wondering if they're holding back on that b/c there may be a S&T worked out... If we got Toney Douglas or Anthony Randolph or Ronny Turiaf I would cream my pants.

Ray was a true professional while he was in Charlotte, even if he made bone-headed decisions sometimes, he at least did it while hustling, playing hurt, being a good teammate and good community citizen. I wonder though if NY will appreciate those characteristics. I wish him well and thank him for giving us everything he had.
I also wonder why Ray didn't fire his agent. If you compare the cost-of-living between Charlotte and NY..just in salary he'd need to make 20% more, and the cost of living in a home would be almost 80% more. I did the numbers on the link below based off $6 Million (which is what Ray was offered last year for a long-term deal in Charlotte http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/06/12/1496833/felton-represents-classic-dilemma.html ) Means to 'breakeven' with a $6M job in Charlotte, he'd need to make $7.2M in NY and he'd need to make $10.6M to come out breakeven on the cost of living in a house in NY vs Charlotte. Seems like Ray is netting less than if he signed with Charlotte last year.

Thanks Ray! My favorite Felton memory was his lofty promise of the playoffs coming into his first year. It showed his desire to be a success. Regardless of when it happened...eventually he was the one to get us there. NY is getting the ultimate teammate, a class act off the court, and one of the toughest dudes i've seen play at this level. Thanks for helping us get there!

Man this is a tough one. He was my favorite Bobcat so it's hard to see him go. I wish him all the best in NY. I always wondered what he would look like in an uptempo offense so I guess I will see. I'm sticking w/ the Bobcats though, they have really won me over the last couple years and I'm ready to see what DJ can bring to the table. Gave the guy all sorts of hell from his second year on, but still awkward to see him leave though I knew it was coming. Everthing that made Raymond likeable (aside from quarterbacking a Tarheel championship! ;)) was his substance. There is no style in his game....he's maybe had 5 or 6 dribble breakdowns of a defender that left me ooohing and aahhing but he was very "meat and potatoes" and struggled to keep from making inane TOs, missing clutch FTs, finishing at the rim, making the smart play, etc., but he gave it his all, gave no excuses, loved the city, state, team, fans and is an immaculate human being...relatively speaking.
Really just too much to put into words...I mean, hell, as with other Tarheel fans here, he's been the PG on the teams we pull for since 2002. Needless to say, it will be weird to not have Raymond Felton on my team.
Good luck, God bless, and you know and we know your home is always here in the Carolinas! Give them Yanks the what for, Raymond!

A source said Felton is coming on a three-year deal worth $8.5 million per year, with the final year not guaranteed. Most are saying the years hasn't been firmed up yet.
I also didn't realize Felton had been coached by D'Antoni before.
http://www.hoopsdaily.com/content/new-york-knicks-reach-agreement-principle-free-agent-point-guard-raymond-felton
The deal could be finalized as early as Saturday. Three days ago, Duhon signed a free agent contract with Orlando.
Felton's contract is believed to be a three-year deal worth approximately $25 million, which doesn't preclude the Knicks from pursuing Chris Paul or Tony Parker next summer. The Knicks were also considering Luke Ridnour, but felt that Felton was the better player to go along with Amar'e Stoudemire and Danilo Gallinari.
"We talked to (Felton) and we feel like we're close," Walsh said during a conference call to announce the sign-and-trade involving David Lee. "We have no contract right now. Until we get a contract, in my world it's not done."

On a personal level I'm sorry to see Ray go, he used to live in my neighborhood and his parent still do, so I often see him driving by my house and when I waived he always waived back and smiled, which I thought was pretty unique for an NBA guy. He lived in one of the smallest houses in my neighborhood and bought his parents a much bigger house... says something about the guy.
Hey may or may not have been what we needed but he always gave 100% here. Best of luck Ray!

Well, if it's 3 years at 25 mil, he does better per year than the 6/42 that we reportedly offered. However, 42 is still more than 25, so I'm sure he's still thinking about that.
Either way, it will be a little odd to not see Raymond in a Bobcats uniform. His talent was always a source of conversation and/or question, but his heart and dedication never were in doubt. Add to that that any employer in any line of work would love to have someone who handles himself like Raymond representing their company and you've got someone who will be missed.

From a basketball standpoint I think this was the right move, but it is going to be weird not seeing him in a Bobcats uniform next year. He really did epitomize what this franchise was all about. Like everyone else, I appreciate his passion for the game and the contribution he made during our rise to respectability. And while it didn't prove to be his finest moment, I'm glad he got to experience the playoffs with us.
He seems like a very decent guy and he has my utmost respect. That's saying a lot from a deac talking about a heel. I wish him nothing but the best in NY.

So if I understand right, his contract is a 2 year $15.8 mil contract. A 3rd year is a team option and the terms not yet hashed out? Wow. If he really did reject a 6 year deal from Charlotte last off season for something in the range of $42 mil, then he has got to be shaking his head at that move. I think that was clearly now the wrong move, especially if he really did want to stay in Charlotte. Maybe there is more to it, but that looks like a gamble that did not pay off.
