MJ Wants More Value: Bobcats' majority owner Michael Jordan has apparently thrown a monkey wrench into the much publicized deal that would have sent Boris Diaw and Tyson Chandler to Toronto for Jose Calderon, Reggie Evans and a Traded Player Exception.
It seems Charlotte wants some future draft assets or a young player off of Toronto's roster and the Raptors seems reluctant to comply.
The odds this deal gets done is still pretty high, it's just going to require Toronto to come out of pocket a little and that may include tossing in some cash.

If we come out of this better for his delaying tactic, it will have been a very shrewd move.

+1.
I'm shocked at how bad this is already...yet the article is implying Jordan just wants cash added in.

Sonny Weems also. He did really good in the summer leagues and will give UPS some serious competition to backup Crash. Plus he is another expiring and less than a million salary.
here's a question. those who think (like me) this isn't a good idea: if a deal was worked where we take jose (for 3 years making him our pg for good) but somehow get rid of diop do you like it then. assuming we are still giving up either tc or diaw or both.

Funny thing is Toronto fans have for months put up trade scenarios where we'd get Caleron...and they were pretty resigned to taking Gana.
It'd help, but I can't really stand Caleron. Go to their boards on RGM and go backa few pages. They have pretty much hated him for years.

Yes, I would do Diaw & Diop for Jose and Reggie. And even throw in a 2nd rounder. But I know Toronto would not.

Can we not just trade Diaw for Calderon?

the only way i don't is if there is no way in hell we have a chance at cp3. who knows, maybe the meeting with brown and jordan was him saying i like the thought of playing in charlotte, but honestly i would rather go to a big market like ny? if that is the case i would rather pay an extra 4 mil over three years and actually get some production than watch diop sit at the end of our bench at over 6.5 mil per year for the next 3 years.
just read this and try not to cry
DeSagana Diop
$6,478,600 2010
$6,925,400 2011
$7,372,200 player option 2012

I commend Jordan for putting this on hold. TC and Diaw aren't All-Stars or anything, but it's about getting good return on what is being shipped out. My biggest gripe with the Okafor-TC deal wasn't losing EO50, it was what we got back. TC almost went to OKC for bench bums, while we got him for a straight trade with Okafor. Yesterday's proposed deal would've been lopsided and we would not have gotten the proper value for a starting pf and an expiring serviceable c.
Props to his Airness.

I wonder if we could trade Nazr instead of Chandler? The Raps fans said they would do it.
So:
Diaw, Nazr, Ajinca
for
Calderon, Belinelli, cash?

I'm with you polarcat. Chandler isn't that good, but 7 ft. centers are a commodity in this league, even if they're just average. We gave up a double-double machine to get TC and were about to trade him for Reggie Evans. Add to that he's a huge expiring and we definitely weren't getting equal value.

Ummm, Yes please. We would be able to compliment Orlando's 3-pt prowess and have a Felton replacement.

Hypocrites!!!!!!!!!!!
We all know Tyson is not going to make it through a full nba season. He can't catch and gets silly offensive fouls setting screens. All this "can't trade our starting center" mess, Same folk that complained about him not being worth the money. We lost in the Okafor trade because we can't even give away Tyson at this point. I put a curse on everyone that wanted this deal dead....A pox on you and your pets!!!
