Sports journalism is a joke

With the Miami debacle and this trade its obviously that sports reporting has gone in the shitter (if it wasnt always in there). with this twitter thing now the center of journalism reporters are just reporting every little god damn thing they hear from ANYONE so they can get more followers and "break the story." It's disgusting. This entire trade hasn't had any real sources from the beginning. After the Coro article everyone started making up shit and saying "multiple sources/inside sources/various outlets/some guy on realgm" I wouldn't be surprised if Chandler and Evans agents found out about the "trade" on twitter and thats why they told them they were traded.

bill simmons has excellent thoughts on this stemming from the KG injury coverup. it is the loss of the beat writer, etc. the worst part is that this extends to news journalists now too. journalism is a dying profession. it is being killed by an evolving medium, union involvement in the newspapers and of course political idealism replacing fact finding and honest reporting.

i would still love to get the actual facts of this deal. was it ever boris for cash? if it was, i would have loved that deal. boris has value but at 3 years left and him basically sulking through most of the year plus it being even worse with TT's big deal. He needs a change of scenery.

It's the audiences more than anything. Look at this way: if Bonnell takes a few hours to post a report about something after it's been tweeted, he's slammed for being late and irrelevant. People want immediate information now, and that applies to news as much as factual data.

As for sports reporting as a whole, I think it was mostly a joke anyway. If you pulled all the words used in 98% of pre-, mid-, and post-game interviews, it probably wouldn't be more than a couple of hundred words.

There are really two types of sports reporters that are effective: one provides true insights into events that are going on and the other describes what has already happened in poetic fashion. Just about all other types are interchangeable mouth pieces to the same information that could be discovered by fans within a short period of time. Twitter and the web is just exposing that.
