Who should start at Point Guard- Augustin or Shaun Livingston?

open competition, brings the best out of both

DJ. Even if he's not better than Livingston, with Livingstons odds of missing time due to injury being so high I'd rather just start DJ. I want the starting lineup to be our most cohesive unit all the time, and that starts at PG

I say DJ its pretty much (as of right now) his job to lose

i see DJ still being backup and Livingston being the starter as we stand right now. Although things could change.

Open competition! But I see it being D.J.'s job to lost because he's been with us for a couple years.

Open competition and may the best player win.

I must say I love Shaun Livinston and I think if healthy his body is much more of what you need in a starting PG and DJ's is the perfect 25-30 minute backup spark plug (hopefully w/ about 7-10 miuntes with both Shaun & DJ).

The key is too split the time between Shaun, DJ, Captain Jack, Henderson, and Wallace so as to:
A. Not stunt the growth of the 3 young kids
B. Not have Jax & GDub being near the top of the league in Min/gm and have tired legs down the stretch & during the playoffs.

I am in the open competition camp but I agree 100% with CatNation here. There has been talk to Livingston being limited on back to backs and in some practice. Our starting point should be able to be out there all the time.

Saw someone else say that about back to backs... any link/proof?

I looked up his games last year after he signed with Washington and he had multiple back to backs with heavy minutes, the last of which he was strong with:
82 mins
40 points
14 assists
9 rebounds

DJ. I don't think Livingston is that much better and with the knee he may be a risk. Plus DJ has been on the team for 3 years now.

Give DJ the starting spot. Let's see whether he can hold down the fort. If he can't, Livingston can take over. I'm fine with either of them starting, but I would like to see what DJ can do as a starter.

Neither I think DJ is gone in a trade. Livinston backs up whoever we get.

I'd start DJ and give him 30-35 minutes and Shaun 25-30 depending on who has the hot hand. They both get plenty of time and they can even play together.

Semi OT: Does anyone know if we picked up the option on DJ's 4th year? I know you're supposed to do it after this year but haven't heard word. It seems as if they declined Lexy (as evidenced by him being an expiring with Tyson).

I think we should let DJ start n if we do make a trade it should be for a C. Hes familiar with the starters so that helps plus hes still got alot of upside. I mean LB might not be high on him right now, but do we really see LB coaching after this season. The next coach might utilize DJs strenghths than his weaknesses. but what do i know

DJ's option was picked up last year.

I'm not trying to sound like a smartass and I appreciate you answer, but I guess I didn't phrase it properly. Draft picks have two options to pick up. After the first year, they have the option to pick up (claim him for) his third year. After the second year, they have the option to pick up (claim him for) his FOURTH year.

I know we got his 3rd year on the hook, just wasn't sure if his 4th was exercised or not.

Yep..4th year option exercised

You have to excercise the option for the following year by the preseason. They debated Lexy's option for this coming year back before the start of last year.

DJ's option for this season was excercised in Fall of '09, they'd do the 4th year option this coming fall.

I don't know the rules on how early, though, so it's entirely possible that could already be done.

Right now the answer has to be DJ.

Neither I think DJ is gone in a trade. Livinston backs up whoever we get. Heaven help me, I hope so....the thought of either one of those being a starting point guard for us makes me cringe and not a little nauseous.
