Maybe we don't have any direction if he thinks there's a strong possibility he's going to be waived... SMH...

Thats not a bad sign at all. If he's traded and waived, he's just saying that he's willing to come back. Kinda like how things played out with Big Z this past season.

Yeah I thought of that, but from how it was written, I got the feeling he's strictly talking about if he's waived with no reference to a trade besides the 'whatever they do, I wish they would hurry up' kinda line.

Either way, its not a bad thing.
Plus, there'd be no point in bringing in Damp to perform Chandler's exact same role - from a basketball standpoint as well as a financial one.
If it comes to that, I say resign him, we need the depth.

Yeah, maybe there was never an imminent trade in the works to begin with and the whole Dampier thing was about us just fishing for one. Who knows. At any rate, I like that we've given ourselves contingency plans for whatever scenario plays out. If DJ's traded, we have Livingston. If Boris is moved, we've got TT locked up. If Damp doesn't attract a willing trade partner, we waive and re-sign a solid C. Worst case, we're under the tax and have added inexpensive pieces that aren't long term commitments and can plug holes in the roster for the short tem.
It may not prove to be the spectacular off-season that we all hoped for, but then again it still could be. Either way, with the moves that have been made, I don't think we're any worse off, and for that, the FO should be commended.

uhm, how about no? We still need his contract to get some decent pieces in return

If we waive Damp and resign him, we can only resign him for what's left of the MLE after you take out Livingston's 3+million. I don't see any way we can do it otherwise though. If we just extend his contract, his salary this first year still effs us royally, right?

When we made this trade I never imagined Dampier would be on our roster opening night, I also never thought he would be anything BUT traded. I saw no other scenario, b/c to me otherwise, this trade made no sense. Chandler's better and his contract would've expired after the year was up.
We could've moved Diaw or Nazr somewhere to dump salary instead. Again, if we keep Damp in any capacity without him being traded first, my head may explode. It just won't make any sense.
Now, even more discouraging, I found the national article on what he said on nba.com. What's discouraging is that he mentions how he played for LB before (which I didn't realize) back when he was with the Pacers. To me, I could see LB at work here again bringing in 'his guys,' no matter how old they've gotten or how much they suck.
Najera = LB blue-collar guy, does the dirty work
Dampier = former player under LB, likes LB
Carroll = Maybe an LB guy, brings an outside shot, hard worker, some history with franchise
The more time goes by, the more skeptical I am that we did this move to make a bigger move, but rather it was another LB trade. I really hope I'm not right about this.

Trade/Waive him and resign him on the cheap. He put up better numbers last year than Tyson did, so if we can keep him for ~$3mil then it's all gravy.

your crazy if you think he will settle for 3mil. brendan haywood signed for over double that. 7 footers unfortunately are the most overpaid commodity in the league.

A couple of things. New CBA coming up? He's gonna take what he can get - and there aren't that many teams with a lot of money left to spend right now either. He'll also get more playing time here than just about anywhere else in the league at the moment. Plus he's one of the players that actually likes playing for LB, most guys that like him, love him, so thats got to count for something too.

my point exactly. he is going to get all the money he can. not settle. with that said, i hope he does settle here for cheap. he will be better than tyson for sure.

SC Bobcat made a good point. If all we've got left to offer him is the remaininder of our MLE (approx. 2.5 mil or so) he and/or his agent would have to know that. If, knowing that, he still said he'd be willing to sign here, then that suggests he would settle for a low ball amount. I kind agree though. He'd have to be worth more than that and some team out there would be willing to give it to him.

LOL Why the fuck not? We've had a long line of "big softy" centers in our illustrious history, why not add Ericka?
This just can't come to pass :hissyfit: The point is to PROgress as a team not REgress and this roster sucks ass as of right now. Ugh.

I think he can probably get more than 2.5 million per, but I'd love to have him for cheap money.

I just wanted to point out, the one guy I wanted us to get off the market for help at center is gone now...
Brad Miller signed a 3 yr/$15M deal with the Rockets.... SMH... Our front office really better have something big in the works.
Although, I am surprised he got that many years at his age and that much money.
