"Larry Hughes says he's down to the Lakers, Celtics, HEAT, and Bobcats..."

We are one of his 4 choices, I just wonder with S-Jax, Henderson, Carroll, Livingston, Collins, and DJ...where exactly does he think he fits on our team? Hughes bring veteran leadership to the team, but to me his shooting was horrific in some of his games last season and his shot selection is not needed on a team with young players. Honestly I'd rather Henderson get the burn than him, but that's just me...
What are some of you guys' thoughts?

Didn't think so. </sarcasm>

We made his top 4...he picked the 3 odds on favorites to make it to the finals...and the Bobcats, a team that might appease LB and sign a veteran to take minutes away from our youth movement.
I'd say no way in hell, unless we don't pickup another starter/quasi starter at PG. I don't want a minute of Henderson's playing time going to Hughes.

It depends if other moves reduce our depth, but otherwise i wouldlnt mind letting him go

When is larry hughes espn special?
But seriously this says a lot about our franchise, if we are in the same sentence as the Lakers,Heat and Celtics, as far as FA destinations go, it means that Larry really loved the city and the organization, matter of fact, has there been any ex-players that said they didn't like playing here?(hornets or bobcats)

I'm at the point now, if we don't make a move to solidify the PG position through trade, we may as well bring him back.

And by narrowed down his list, he means those are the teams that returned his call, two of them actually suggesting he might play for them.
I wouldn't necessarily mind having Hughes if he can still play. I thought he was pretty marginal for us last year. Seeing as how we've already spent a lot of money and still need a C, I'm not sure we need Hughes.

I can see Hughes coming back looking much better, in big part b/c he came off surgery on his thumb last year with us when we got him. He didn't look like he had his basketball legs under him yet... So I think his conditioning and basketball awareness will be much better if we bring him back (plus, he says he's working out now over the summer and he's not making 11M/yr anymore).
Only thing I don't think he can change if we bring him back is his shot selection, which wasn't very good last year.

He wants to play for the Heat? odd, nobody wants to go there right now.
If he resigns, fine, but I do want to see what Hendo and UPS can do with more minutes.
I agree on Hendo and UPS...I thought they both showed they deserve time from SL...I'd like to see a "pure" PG come in rather than a hybrid this time...but if we get a hybrid I'd rather see Flip...he seemed to have great chemistry with the other guys on the team...

We certainly could use some people on the team. Especially if we end up scoring another deal where we lose more people than we gain. I wouldn't be too upset to see Larry sign for the vet minimum. My guess is: if the 3 contenders on his list don't want him, then he'll wind up in Charlotte.

My guess is that Raja Bell despises the Bobcats organization.

That has more to do with him being traded than anything that happened while in Charlotte. Though them choosing not to extend his contract probably has a lot to do with it too.

I think bonnel reported sometime this spring that Raja felt betrayed that the Bobcats pushed and pushed for him to continuing playing and forgo the surgery on his wrist (in his mind potentially causing permanent injury). Then the trade comes along and we drop him like a sack of potatoes.

Yes, but he also had the option to say "No, the Doctors say I need surgery" and be done with it. It was his choice as much as their's, and he knew he wasn't getting an extension.
Smart business by the 'Cats, and Raja will be making a nice sum of money in Utah.

Love to have Hughesy here, but they just had to go and sign Livingston  making Hughesy not a part of the plans unfortunately...
LOL I think Livingston's slowly becoming my new Shannon Brown.

Totally agree. Think of Hughes as the second or third PG. Also, DJ would benefit playing next to a big PG at times, since DJ had his best days acting more like a 5'11" SG next to Felton. Hughes and Livingston would give us two options for that.

Wow. Hughes has a list. Just wow. He seems to be acting like people want him. I don't want him, not at all. I wouldn't even have given Ajinca up to trade for his scrubby ass.
Jax > Hughes (No brainer)
Hendo > Hughes (Hendo^2 is more stronger, faster, and more complete than ever before, and that beats Hughes)
Carroll > Hughes (Hammer can actually hit a basket and can pass on a fast break)
Any questions? Nope? Then get lost Hughes

It's obvious he would be signed as a big PG, not a Wing. So these comparisons are not relevant. I'm sure you're quite aware of our currently shaky PG lineup.

I wouldn't let him even touch the ball. When you have a 3 v 1 fast break and you don't pass and let everyone else run back, you have a problem. As for our shaky PG lineup, I'm fine with seeing DJ and Livingston duke it out for the starting spot. And if we pull CP3, even better.

I'm not content with Augustin and Livingston as the only Point Guards at all. With his injury, Livingston can't be a full-time starter. And it is still very questionable as to whether DJ is starter caliber.
As it stands now, the starting position is DJ's by default, and I'm not happy with that.

It' been pretty much established by quotes from coaches, etc., that Livingston can't play starter minutes in this league because of his physical issues.

So you start Livingston at point, then play DJ 20+ minutes as a shooting guard with Boris or Jack playing point.

I personally think the person who starts should be available for 30 minutes a night. Livingston won't be up for that.
If we're stuck with only DJ and Livingston at PG this season, then start DJ because he can handle the bigger minutes. Then you have DJ bring the ball upcourt, but run most of your halfcourt offense through Jack, Boris, and Gerald. Hopefully DJ will be able to rack up some points feeding off of those guys. HOPEFULLY.

Totally understand your position, but I would rather play the best man. DJ showed last year (and even in parts of his rookie year) that while he can shoot the lights out, he's not a point guard. He's a poor man's Jet Terry or homeless man's AI type player. I'd rather play Livingston 25-30 minutes, then let DJ feed off others. you could play them together and go small with Jack, Crash and Boris/TT.
DJ is a 5'11 shooter, so unless he's in a backcourt with Tyreke Evans, OJ Mayo or the like, there's no way he can survive as a PG.

Sad thing is we didn't really learn our lesson when we screwed up Raymond playing him at SG early in his career. And now everyone wants to do the same thing to DJ (hell we already did last year). He'll never be a good point if we don't give him a chance.

The difference is, we are in "win-now" mode this time around. How much do we develop young players vs. get wins?
I have no issue with DJ being the "PG" guy who brings the ball up the court--as long as he gets it into the hands of Jack, Gerald, or (a hopefully rejuvenated) Boris early in the shot clock on a regular basis.
I know you dislike Boris, but if our PG situation stays the same, I'd like to see what he can do with his "Point Forward" skills until the PG position is deemed solid.

Evans or Mayo would be great with DJ, certainly.
I guess I'm concerned as to whether Livingston can even go 25 minutes a night. On the one hand, he says that there is no "cap" on his limits. On the other hand, he says his minutes will be "monitored". Time will tell.
I'd feel a lot better if we added another tall-ish PG to push/complement Livingston and Augustin. Then maybe that makes "Doris" a little more expendable.

I'd always seen DJ as Damon Stoudamire-lite.
During his rookie year, he looked like the best pure point guard in his draft class (pure point... as in, best distributor and most capable of running an offense efficiently himself). A guy doesn't have to put up 6+ assists a night to be a true point guard, he can still be a scorer as well. As long as DJ shakes off whatever it is that destroyed his play this season he's just fine as a point guard.
