BETCATS

...that we are done making major moves until the season starts? It seems like "a Bobcat thing" to make an incomplete roster, then freak out 1/4-midway through and do some crazy move that inspires everyone on here. I am starting to think this might be the case.
But what do you guys think?

To be honest I have no idea when we will make a move. All I know is that the move will involve Dampier and hopefully CP3.

I don't think that we're done dealing. To me, It just doesn't make any sense to have Dampier's contract on your roster and do nothing with it outside of waiving him clearing cap space.
I put it at 50-50...I still don't think we just waive Damp...but I could be wrong...but Rod has to wait for a team to become desperate enough to give us what we want for that contract...difficult to say when that will happen...but my best guess...as soon as the first team approaches us for it the snow-ball starts...

Other teams will be more motivated after the season starts, but if the worst thing that happens is we have some cap relief and don't make a knee-jerk Diop-like trade because we feel backed into a corner all because we moved Tyson, then it is still a good move.
Rod and MJ appeased (slightly) LB for the short term with livingston and collins, opened the chech book for TT, and didn't overpay to keep ray. I would still bet our new years roster has 3-4 new names then our current roster.

I don't understand why MJ would trade for Dampier, and two scrubs with bad contracts (for our cap situation) and not have a bigger deal in place... if we had no plan we would have just waived Damp. and resigned him for cheap, so I think we already have the cp3 deal in place, and its in the final stages, we (hornets FO and ours) are just spacing out the time to from this whole trade demanding mess to make sure it wasn't preconceived. Remember Higgins said Trades takes months to happen.

I doubt we're done but theres no star coming here. Alchemy isn't real, you can't turn crap to gold, we don't have the assets for anything major. I think its pretty obvious a lot of people are overrating the value of Dampier's contract when you look at what some people are proposing versus what we traded for it. The Mavs were just as desperate to add talent as we are and look what DUST got them..Tyson. There's just not the vast market of demand for Damp as some of yall would like to believe. Hornets don't need to save money on a CP3 trade, when he is your main source of revenue its not like they even gain anything financially even dumping their bad contracts on us. Our package without Crash has nobody that will bring people to the arena or even excite the fans on potential. They'd be better off getting all the revenue out of Paul they can and in 2 yrs getting a nice TPE and a few picks like Cle/Tor got if money is the main concern.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/Undrafted-Kansas-star-Sherron-Collins-signs-with-Charlotte-Bobcats
Signing Collins, whose deal has two triggers before January that if he's still on the roster would allow him to make the full amount of his league minimum contract, has been part of a busy summer for owner Michael Jordan's Bobcats. And more moves are on the way.
Higgins will soon talk with center Erick Dampier (http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/player/erick-dampier/71217)'s agent on how to proceed with his $13 million, non-guaranteed deal for next season. Charlotte acquired the contract from Dallas last month in the Tyson Chandler trade.
The Bobcats are leaning toward waiving him to clear much-needed cap space instead of trying to use his contract in a trade, which would be complicated because of the cap.
The Bobcats could then re-sign Dampier for less money. Dampier said last month he'd give Bobcats the first chance to do that.
Clearing $13 million would allow for another trade, perhaps for a big man or a starting point guard.
''We're going to continue to survey what's out there as far as improvement at all of our positions,'' Higgins said. ''I don't think you're ever satisfied with what you have. At the same token, you've got three young point guards there with different styles of play. But we're still trying to see what's out there as far as trades.''

Its seems weird. I wonder who we might be going after that we need to CUT Dampier to clear space....and the other team doesn't just want Dampier to clear space. Maybe Diaw will be traded?

I wouldnt really want to resign Dampier, it makes us no better in any way. Im hoping we trade him, but i agree that is awkward as he cant be traded with anybody according to the nba trade machine. Waiving him would free up some space for other trades to happen. However the poll has no option for a trade, but just minor ones as i dont think we will do a " major trade" and were defo not get cp3 any time soon. Everyone thinks diaw and TT causes a log jam and diaw must be traded, however they played on the same team last year pretty successfully so dont be to suprised if they are both on the roster again
Its possible the FO had another trade in mind when they got Dampier, and that trade fell apart. I'm 50/50 on this, I know they are trying to make moves, I'm just not sure if they will or not before the season starts.

50/50, if they want to waive dampier, they should waive him already. They are still looking for a good deal.

Went 50/50 too. That said, as time goes by, it's starting to look likely this is the team we're putting out there on opening night. I'm with CatNation in thinking the Ericka contract, as the Mavs found out, is not as special as was rumoured. There may have been good intentions in the trade, but it's looking like it'll bite FO in the ass.
Too early to start doom and gloom train, but I have a bad feeling about this season...:g:

worst comes to worst, all of our stars get "injured" and we somehow land in position to get harrison barnes :g:
I'm trying not to put over-value nor under-value Erica (his contract)...I do think Dallas over-valued because there were specific players they wanted and those teams did not want to deal with them...and I'm not of the opinion his contract gets us a star...but I also refuse to under-value when a lockout (probably) looms and many teams would like to cut salary...
I think it will come down to the right deal for the team...I'm being patient on this one...

Co-sign.
Dallas could've had Al Jefferson for Dampier, but they wanted the T-Wolves to take back Carroll and Najera too. We know that to be true.
Working from that, Dampier's contract should land us a near All-Star or even better, as soon as teams start panicking come training camp. There are a lot of teams with ownership changes coming (Detroit, Denver, GSW, NoLa, etc.) which means cutting loose excess cost. I'm positive Dampier could net us Monta Ellis or Andris Biedrins, but that's not what this team needs. There are guys out there, and Rod is going to find one.
If absolute worst comes to be, then we get back under the luxury tax, re-sign Damp (who's stats are ALL better than TC's), and have flexibility in the coming seasons.
