Contrary to popular belief that Dampier's contract was going to be waived i.e. Rick Bonnell, here's a tidbit I found interesting in an SI article regarding the Kwame Brown signing from Rod Higgins:

Meanwhile, Bobcats GM Rod Higgins says they'll try to trade Dampier next month.

Take it as you will, but it looks like they're still on the prowl to use this as a trade chip.

The Charlotte Bobcats thought the answer to their depth problems at center was to waive Erick Dampier to clear salary-cap space and then re-sign him for less money.
When Dampier wouldn't agree to a new contract, the Bobcats looked at the next-best option.

Well Rod said a few weeks ago they would sit down and try to figure out what to do with Damp. Damp said he would like to stay here for less money than his current contract. Considering all we can offer is our mid-level (about 2.2 mil.) I am assuming he wants more. IMHO he is not worth much more than that. Perhaps the sticking point was the number of years and MJ wouldn't go past one but Damp wants at least two. Again, good luck with that Damp.

Next month, as in September when we can trade him along with other players. It's all coming together!

I would'nt get too excited. Based on what we have done this summer so far its likely that we trade for something along the lines of Eddy Curry....lol

Well glad to see they are still trying to make moves. I'm almost certain they brought over Damp thinking they could get a deal done to get CP3, and when that fell through they tried other options that haven't panned out. Hopefully they can get a trade done.

Well, if that's the avenue the FO wants to go down, then the good news is that whether the 'Cats cut him, or they trade him and he gets cut by that team, they're still just as eligible to resign him as anyone.

You mean the same Jose that's already got a hamstring injury that will sideline him for a while?
