When Jordan bought the team, there was discussion of more major changes to come. One was changing the name of the team. The other was bringing in another owner, to defray the losses Jordan was certain to endure.

Whitfield says both of those discussions are slowing down, in no small part because of the team's success. The name change, he says, is "not anything that we've decided to pull the trigger on. ... When I got here five years ago you'd never see people running up and down the street in Bobcats shirts, or Bobcats license plates on the front of cars. Now that we're starting to see that, we're asking ourselves does it really make sense to change the name and now have the third NBA team name in a small market like Charlotte."Hat tip to QCH for the link.

Give it a look...it's a very good read.

Give it a look...it's a very good read. If a team in Charlotte is that doomed than it is a shame the team can't move.(Sarcasm) I have had some negative perceptions about MJ owning a team but should he fail I don't think he should be given the excuse that he bought the Charlotte Bobcats. MJ has to make wise decisions and none of the so called negative factors and what have you are going to be the reason for the Bobcats sucking if they indeed suck. So far it seems like MJ is doing the right things and that is something to feel optimistic about when it comes to the team.

We've been fortunate in that we have sold all but two of our courtside seats

Wow.

"Oh, yes, we saw them," says Whitfield, when asked about ESPN.com's future power rankings that called his franchise 30th by a long shot

Good. Nothing like motivating Mike. Thanks, Hollinger

Great read. Thanks Spectre.

Outstanding read. Thanks for the link! Yep, good job, spec via Brett.

Also, how lucky are we to have a guy like Fred Whitfield representing the organization?

This is a fantastic read, Spectre. I know we here had a debate about Jordan and Postolos when Bob decided to sell, but after seeing what Jordan's done and reading that article, I couldn't be happier that Jordan is our owner.

Great find Spectre!! great read...someone please send Whitfield a note that Wachovia is now Wells Fargo before they cancel their season tickets. I know at the time it was Wachovia, but Wells Fargo seems to be back in the sports swing of things (Wachovia Championship to Quail Hollow Championship to Wells Fargo Championship)...maybe their next sponsorship could be the BobcatsPlanet Suite at the Cable Box.

Great, great read. Those statistics show the city is finally getting behind the team, which is great to see.
