I'm only about 80% done with the forum side of things, but I'm going to come back and finish up a little later.
Let's use this thread to document any weirdness that is happening following this upgrade.
Also anything missing (vbookie, arcade yet to be set back up ) or odd.
Have Fun!

I was on old versions of Wordpress and vbulletin and to be as secure as possible I wanted to get both of those up to the current version this off-season.
Vbulletin had a significant rewrite between versions 3.8 to 4.0 and none of the templates for the old version would work any longer on the new version. so for the forum I had to get a new template, and since I had to do it for the forum, I took the opportunity to give the homepage a fresh coat of paint too.

Three things:
1)I am a heavy user of the "New Posts" button. When I click and it shows the threads that have new posts, sometimes they're orange and sometimes they stay blue. Not necessarily an issue, but something nonetheless.
2)When I click the button next to the threads to pop to the first new post, the little square in the upper left corner (pale blueish) isn't much different than the old posts squares (whiteish). Again, not necessarily an issue, so if it can't be corrected fast, don't worry about it.
3) Building off what bing! said, sometimes the "member info" boxes at the top of posts aren't formatted properly--it seems to stem from the size of the avatar. For example, yours formats correctly, but plowman's doesn't, since his "pushes" the info down.
Also, it seems to be a little wonky on my girlfriends computer (1366x768), so I would assume it'd be odd on mine (1600x900), so maybe there's some way to have an auto-format thing to adjust to the different ratios?

1. I'll play with that and see if I can make that happen over here ( that's what she said  )
2. Once the dust settles, I'll see if there are any volunteers that might be able to make a few more distinctive buttons.
3. If it isn't too much trouble, can you pm or email me a screen print of the weirdness? my desktop and laptop are fairly standard, so I'm not seeing it. No hurry though, I'm too sleepy/drunk to work on it tonight.

When you scroll up the page is that the area that the sidebar takes up?
SWedd523
09-17-2010, 10:50 PM
Ahh yes, that explains it! Would it be possible to have that sidebar have a hover effect so that it stays on the screen and fills the location? I've seen some different things do that before. If that would be possible, Maybe we could put some cool, useful links (or ads ;)) in that spot to make things even more user friendly.
As for the buttons, I have no problem with them. It's just that when I get to the actual thread, it's hard to tell a difference in the color between the old posts and the new ones. In the old forum layout, the old posts showed white while the new showed gold or something so that it was easy to tell where the new ones began.
I'll take a pic to show you what I mean. I'll also get one of the poster info section.

Yeah, I'm not sure if this is the same thing that SWedd's talking about or not, but each poster's header is a bit off for me. It's like the "Join date, etc." info doesn't start until below the avatar stuff. I don't see it happening in SWedd's screen capture, but he's a capture of what I'm seeing:
290
Maybe it's my computer. Whatever the reason, it'd be more aesthetically pleasing to have the two columns aligned like before.
Everything looks pretty sweet though. Thanks again for creating and maintaining this place Ziggy!
Edit: I guess it is the same thing that SWedd's talking about, except that I see everyone's post the way he shows Plowman's above.
Zig, love the changes. Great work. Couple questions though:
Is it possible to make the sidebar a little thinner and the posts a bit thicker? I like the sidebar, though like Swedd said it would be better as a hover. But I feel like the posts are a bit cramped. Maybe I just need to get used to it, I dunno.
At the top header, an ad is covering up the word Community. Any way to fix that?
Lastly (for now): any chance the grey/orange Cat logo for new posts comes back? I really liked that.
Other than that, I'm really digging it.

Hey Guys,
I removed the sidebar from the thread pages, can you tell me if the name section still gets pushed down for some members, or does it display correctly now.
bing!
09-18-2010, 07:00 AM
I'm stuck with a 17" for the time being so browsing sites not optimized for x768 4:3 is a pain in the ass, but Google Chrome saves the day with its in-browser individual site scaling (I've set BCP to 83% and everything 'seems' to be in place).
Oh, and you might wanna limit the avatar size to get rid of the problem of user info being pushed down (either that or reposition/resize the sidebar so that avatars have some 'breathing room').
:)

I'm on Mobile Safari (iPhone) currently, and it's doing it to mine and teej's info. I do have scaling on my Laptop browser (Safari) but using it Finkles the font size.
What could work is have the avatar be big enough to stretch all the way down, then put an identically sized cell next to it for the info, that way their name could be centered with their bcp rank under it and whatever titles (mod, writer, etc) they may have under that!

User error, my apologies. I didn't realize the star for a particular post (to leave feedback) is at the bottom of the post, it used to be in the top right corner. So I was effectively scrolling to the very bottom of a post (hiding it except for the bottom footer line with the star) and clicking the Star, the post the website gremlins thought I wanted to leave feedback on was now almost entirely off the screen so it shoved the 'pop up' box for feedback behind the header of the next post.

Just wait til they start "working" in your area...or the weather shows up...or they lose your bill...or anything else.
We had Roadrunner internet in Greensboro, never had an issue. We moved to Hickory in '06, and Charter's had to come fix the internet at least every 6 months. And it's out or slow a lot more than that.

Teej mentioned that the two menus (just below the BCP banner) are overlapping and it happens to me also (both with Chrome and Firefox, independent of resolution). It 'sorta' fixes itself if I don't run the browser in a maximized window (i.e. reduce the width just right).

Hey bing,
I did some experimenting with the minimum and maximum forum width. Is it still happening?
The menus don't overlap any longer but the top one is aligned to the right and is getting shadowed by the search bar (1280x960).
On 1024x768 (and lower), the forum is a bit wider (about 70 pixels or so) than the window and slightly offset to the right thus forcing one to scroll horizontally to view it in entirety.
If I'm annoying you with these, just say so. :)

Well, the forum is center-aligned and it looks ok, but, yet again, the two menus are overlapping and the e-bay banner is covering the BCP one. :D
I guess you can't decrease the width without robbing the reserved ad-banner of its space. It'd seem that the forum still doesn't scale properly for 4:3 screens, oh well, I'll get used to it.
As for the menus, the top one (which is still aligned to the right) is getting pushed down and overlaps the bottom one as the browser window is collapsed horizontally.

Sweet providers? Not in Western Australia. All those companies listed are Eastern States. We get shat on constantly in everything.
Elections, they want to tax WA who kept Australia afloat during financial crisis. Now WA might go completely kaboom because of it (FYI it's a 40% mining tax on everything).
Then we get crap all in election promises, all parties that we vote for in WA are shockingly bad, or complete scrubs who don't even know what we're doing.

I hate to say it but those of us that survived the FHB can survive anything...
I agree with that. As a Bobcats fan, that season was a painful experience.
If it weren't for the laughs around this place, surviving that season as a fan would have been almost impossible.

It's weird because the New Posts toolbar is static and Auto-Formats to whatever screen size I'm on, but the What's New toolbar doesn't, it just sort of moves down to accommodate the other things on the page.

You normally connect by iPhone, Right? I'll install tapatalk so that you and other phone browsers won't have to deal with formatting issues.

Yeah it works on my computer because the resolution is so high, if I minimize the window to half-width though, it messes up. I think some other guys (spectre, bing) are having the same issue on their computers
