302vs 303
October 5, 2010.
7:00 PM start, Radio only. Hopefully we'll have stats on NBA.com
First pre-season game so I don't really know what to expect. I'd love to see (hear) Tyrus continuing his good play, Crash and Jax doing well but staying healthy and the young guys showing LB they can contribute.
DJ vs Mo is a good beginning matchup I think. Mo isn't a driver, mostly DJ will just have to stay with him on the perimeter and make Mo guard him.
Since this isn't on TV it should be a good "chat" game.

Does this mean that the game won't be televised at all or that it won't be aired in NC... i.e. can we expect a stream?
EDIT: nevermind, I just saw that there won't be any TV coverage. Consarn it.

Hope to see good things from DJ and TT. Hope DJ can really show on the stat sheet that he deserves to start. Stats aren't as good as watching the game, but at least we'll have some indication of how he's playing.

Last year they had the WFNZ radio link live on the Bobcats home page so you could listen to the play-by-play. Hopefully that will be the case tonight (and other preseason games with no TV).
Here are the Game Notes: http://www.nba.com/bobcats/news/notes.pdf For the stat Nerds (no ill will intended I'm one of them, but information is bland, you have be a real fan)

Brown is a beast so far . Thomas looks great. DJ sucked the first half. JC if he would pass the rock he would be damn good Still scoring better than DJ ;
NO Hendo , Diop , or Livingston , Collins SIGHTINGS SO FAR.

Miles wont make the team. DJ has to have more than 1 assist playing over 25 minutes. Want to see what Livingston does when he plays soon. May the best PG start. TT needs to practice his darn FT's!

The quest for respect continues:
From the ESPN recap of this game:
Game notes
Browns QB Seneca Wallace attended the game. ... The Cavs host Washington and rookie John Wall on Thursday. ... The Hornets play Oklahoma City on Wednesday in Fayetteville, N.C.
To bad the Hornets left town 8 years ago, and dont play anyone until Saturday.

DJ 14 pts 1 assist in 27 mins is shit..
Nazr 10 mins 5 boards ( 4 offensive ) is nice
Jax 22 mins 9 pts on 3 for 10, 4 boards, 2 assists ( shitty shooting night)
Wallace 26 mins, 8 pts on 2 for 9 shooting is shit,, 9 boards is nice ( picking up from last yr)
Dominic ( WTF ) McGuire 2pts 1 for 5 shooting, 4 boards 1 asst, in 20 mins
UPS and TT played the best for us
Diaw played like ass yet again ( not surprising, Hope we trade his ass)
Diaw needs to go and DJ needs to step up. 27 mins as our point and only 1 assist is god awful. Definitely don't see miles making the cut if he doesnt show he can play. We need to bench diaw and play rogers and carroll in the next game.

Our worst fears about this team were confirmed if we just go off what we saw in this game... We're in for a rough year with the way this team is constructed guys... Wasn't Gibson their 3rd PG last year? He dropped 18 on us...
I have a feeling Collins is going to be out and Crittenton will be in based off what we've heard from camp and how they played so far in this game.
DJ is better than that. I know he's more of a scorer but, he's got to distribute. And I'm a Jack fan, but honestly guys, I realized last year he was much more of a volume shooter-scorer than I realized until he got here... It's starting to bother me now. He is skilled in so many facets of the game, but the more I look at his shot selection, the more I question it....

really? Did you watch the game? I didn't but since you probably somehow managed to follow it, you could give us a more detailed scouting report instead of throwing stats outthere and judging players. Guess what, I can do the same by looking at the play-by-play analysis, we started to go downhill when Diaw was put on the bench and TT took over. You agree with that?

I probably agree with you 1/100 times in a year, but +1 right here.
On the game side, DJ needs to pick up the assists. It may be because Bobcats had a HORRID shooting night, but what I saw of the highlights he's really determined to help the team out, had some nice slashing moves and scoring. TT will be a beast this year. Had a shocking time at the FT line, but what I saw of him he looked very very solid.
Here's hoping we do better.

Did you watch the game? A smartass remark like that would lead me to believe you were there as well. Seeing how none of us could watch the game and the only thing we can do is sit at the pc's and read stats and play by plays listening to the game, how else would we judge performance?
I simply said he played like ass, and his stats back it up! 26 mins , 4 pts, 4 assists ( although more than DJ ) and 3 boards and 2 turnovers! Diaw was put on the bench because he wasn't producing and brown saw it. Tyrus played a lot better than doris.. 11 pts 3 steals, 3 assists and 9 boards in a few more minutes.
So yeah, your right... hard to judge performance without looking at play by plays and looking at box scores when the game isn't televised. Although not sure what your point was or is. I would start Tyrus over Doris, and the next game maybe LB will experiment and see if by starting tyrus it could light a fire under diaws ass. Diaw played half ass all season last yr outside of a tiny stretch of games. I was hoping he would want to pad his stats for his next contract. Then again maybe he knows he is being shopped and doesn't give a damn, which would be the opposite of normal people as better stats means better money.

Ugly game all around. Looking at the box score two things stand out. First we got out rebounded and that is how the cavs won the game. Yea we couldn't throw it in the ocean but neither could they.
Second, no Andy V, no Moe Williams, Jamison goes 1-9 and we still get beat by 13:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepal m:

how else would we judge performance? maybe we shouldn't judge a player's performance with preseason stats at all? And rather wait until we can watch a game.

Diaw was put on the bench because he wasn't producing and brown saw it. Tyrus played a lot better than doris.. again, how do you know? Tyrus had a better statline but a worse +/- (whatever the fuck that is), and still, who cares? We all know LB doesn't really give a shit about stats, since scrubs like Graham, McGuire and Miles get a ton of playing time. Diaw got traded here because of one obvious reason: ball movement. And as long as TT isn't able to develop a decent BBall-IQ, Diaw will see 30minutes per game.
Diaw played half ass all season last yr outside of a tiny stretch of games. Maybe it was because of the injury? Or we all know he had struggles adapting to Jax' playing style, since both of them need the ball to be effective? Maybe that was the problem? Fact is, he played good in his first year he got traded here, and he also stepped it up after the all-star break.

The +/- line is important (although more about cohesiveness of particular lineups). If it shows +5 (Augustin's number), it means while that player was on the floor, the Bobcats outscored the opponent by 5 points. If it was -6 (TT's number), it means the Bobcats were outscored by 6 points while that player was on the floor. Obviously you want it to be a positive number.

Best recap of what happened last night (especially if you haven't even looked at the box score) is Bonnell's blog on his thoughts:
http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_nba/2010/10/some-post-game-thoughts.html
He talks about how DJ isn't as bad as 1 assist shows, how GW is TT's big brother, how it doesn't make sense that Carroll wasn't involved (LB needs to acknowledge the 3pt shot is part of the NBA-use it or have it used against you), Crittenton is more useful to the Bobcats than Collins (who is fat), and Darius Miles is bad (really no other way to describe it).

One other important note is that once Nazr went out (I read somewhere due to neck spasms after he was fouled hard), we were left with no true center. Diaw and TT had to have filled in there with Diop back home with his new baby, Kwame on a bad ankle, and Rogers just sitting there on the bench for some reason. Granted, the Cavs didn't play Andy V so they probably went small a lot as well.
Also, if you take out augustin's 5-10 shooting and the 4 assists from Diaw, there just weren't enough baskets made by the other guys to give DJ a chance at nice #s. I love the zero turnovers stat though.

Slick Rick's comments on Collins
http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/xx200/BuzzLightcentury/face_palm_klingon.gif
-- I was stunned how poorly the Bobcats were in transition, in both directions. Nobody showed up fat or slow (OK, Sherron Collins is fat, but that's about a nagging injury, not a lack of effort). My point is their poor changes from offense-to-defense and defense-to-offense was more about reaction than about conditioning, I think.
-- Speaking of Collins, he got incredibly burned on a jab step-and-pull back move by Booby Gibson. It might just have been a "Welcome to the NBA'' moment, but until Collins is both faster and quicker, he's going to hurt himself. Particularly so, because Javaris Crittenton is a jet. Not Jamal Crawford kinda jet, but still a jet.

DJ had 14/1. It's the end of the world for us
Derrick Rose only had 13 points and 2 assists. Is it the end of the world for Chicago?
Dirk only had 11 points. Is it the end of the world for Dallas?
BRoy only had 12/2/2. Is it the end of the world for Portland?
BRoy only had 12/2/2. Is it the end of the world for Portland?
Only as long as they have hopes for Greg Oden...or have Paul Allen running things.
But yeah, overreacting to a preseason game? Jeez-us. DJ isn't even supposed to be the distributor, he's supposed to be the Mo Williams-type, catch and shoot while Boris and Jack run the offense.

Nooooooooooooooo!
LB has a conundrum. I know he values Boris and I think he plans on starting him at the PF but give Tyrus a lot of minutes by going small. What do we have to trade of any value that has a chance of getting an upgrade at the PG other than him though?
The thing with DJ & assists as well as the no TOs:
I think he's playing too safe. Yeah, no TOs look good...but all the great PGs usually have over 2 per game (career, Paul=2.5, Deron=2.25, Nash=2.7). To me that shows they're willing to take a chance to get an easy basket for a mate.
DJ's assist rate per minutes played has never been good, so until we either get more consistent perimeter scorers or DJ starts to take more chances I don't expect it to rise a whole lot.
The whole team has been talking about how they'll have to help him out distributing the ball. That's why they don't want to trade Boris.
It's expected.

No panic . But i will say this LBrown expects more than 1 damn assist from his starting point. Most D leaguers could post better than that . I hope this was just a bad game and not a sign of things to come.

Rose only had 2 assists. Chris Paul wouldn't have done much better if our team shot so horribly. 5 total shots made by your best two players makes it nearly impossible to have a high number of assists.

Rose isn't really a distributing PG either. He dominated the ball last year and only averaged 6 in 37 mpg. Felton actually averaged more apg with about the same mpg last year and he had Boris and Jax helping. His strength is scoring...which we're hoping DJ can do.
Chris Paul is one of the best at creating easy looks for his mates...so I don't know that what you said in regards to him is correct.
Either way...kind of hard to critique anything without actually seeing it.
