He isn't going to be around by the time the team is decent. We should get some draft picks while we can. I would move Jonathan Steward to due to his constant injuries, also. Goodson could handle backup RB duties.

I agree with you. It is sad to see somebody that tries as hard as Smitty suffer through this bad situation. Also I think you're on point with Goodson, he has looked good when he is on the field and I think he is slightly more versatile than Stewart.
I'd be happy if we traded Stewart, but I doubt his value is very high right now. And if Randy Moss and a 7th rounder gets no more than a 3rd rounder, trading Smitty has no point. Hell, if anything Smitty is worth the ticket sales and advertising.

moss is known as problem which very negatively effects his value in the nfl. smith is the opposite. i think both teams do this.
smith to new england for new englands first and carolina's 2nd back.

steve smith is not exactly a great teammate himself.

I would be happy with just a 2nd, maybe even a third. Smith deserves to play out his career with a contender. We don't have the QB's to give him get him the ball so having him on the panthers is kind of a waste.

I would miss watching Steve Smith chew out Jimmy Clausen for not watching the play clock.

Apparently the Panthers are going to be stubborn and not even consider a trade that would make them better a few years down the road:

A source familiar with the situation said the Panthers will not trade Smith under any circumstance.
One team that already has called Carolina to inquire about Smith's availability already has been given the same message.
Smith is close with Panthers owner Jerry Richardson and even though the Panthers have yet to win a game, they will not be in the business of auctioning off their accomplished veterans for future draft picks.
The Panthers will not trade Smith, they will not trade running back DeAngelo Williams (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=9613), and they are expected to be quiet before and at the NFL trade deadline.
nfl teams are so stupid. why wouldn't you trade him and rebuild while his value is high?
Bad move by the front office. Season is lost, why not give Smith a fresh start and get a high draft pick for the new coach. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Also free up some money.
