View Full Version : No Rumors, Just My Suggestion: Get Arenas

I was listening to a report from Chris Broussard last night after the story about Arenas faking the knee injury, and he said that they can't get anyone to trade for Arenas, or basically, he's "un-tradeable." Says even before the fake injury few teams if any were interested and now this event has made it even harder to move him.
My suggestion? We need to be the team that steps up and trades for him. I don't really care what pieces except I don't want to give up Wallace, Thomas, Jax, Brown, and prefer to keep Hendo and Augustin.
He will help with the scoring and can play wither G spot, and it shouldn't require any of the guys I listed above b/c his value is at an all-time low right now, and with Wall, they don't really need him anymore. As for the off-court stuff, I believe him that the gun issue is behind him, and IIRC, I thought I read that he got rid of all his after the stuff last year. The fake injury stuff, I think that's just his usual quirky stuff and that's fine... We took on Jack with a history involving gun problems.
I just think we could use him and should make a move, he could add a real intimidating threat for our offense and would bring us some national exposure as well.

I had thought about that when I was posting and forgot while I was typing to address it, but it's pretty obvious he'd have to be out if Areans came here, lol.

Arenas' contract on our team would be a horrible decision. Even if they took back Diop, Carroll, Najera and Livingston (which they wouldn't do).
When was the last time Arenas put together 2 seasons with 70+ games played? 2005-06 to 2006-07 Four seasons ago
How much does he earn over the next 2 seasons? $37M
How much does he earn over the 2 seasons after that? $43M

And he's only played 56 or more games 4 times in 9 seasons http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3540/career;_ylt=AkTWcENQDoUkvscqXAcdYjShPKB4

I get that BP, but I'm not convinced that the Wizards wouldn't take back the guys you listed b/c all those deals expire within 3 seasons right? So it would clear off their books before Arenas' deal would. OR would could add Diaw in there, which expires within 2 years as well.
My point is, if we traded those guys for him, what would we really be giving up? Most of the guys you listed that we could trade have missed games over the last several seasons for various reasons as well. If they're healthy vs. if Arenas is healthy, who gives us more?

The Wiz really don't have a bad salary situation other than Arenas. They don't have to move him from that standpoint, so why would they sell low right now or take on bad contracts just to move him?
I don't think we'd be willing to give over the bare minimum if at all and we'd look to dump something too probably.
Don't think there's a deal there.

I agree that we could use him, and I think he would have fewer problems here then he has had every where else, but the $$ makes it sure it isn't going to happen. We don't realistically have enough to give up to get us below the cap if we took on his $$

it may be hard to do, but if Washington really was looking to get rid of him and would take back a bad contract to assist us, I would take him in a heart beat. If anything is clear from the pre-season so far, we need scoring in a bad way.

Let's assume they take all the bad contracts we offer, having Arenas' growing contract would be a huge achilles heel for years 3 & 4. Plus we would have to keep another starter worthy PG on the roster for the 30+ games Arenas will miss (at least that is what his track record would dictate).
I know he has a scoring prowess when he's on the court, but the dollars are way WAY out of line.
Maybe he'll have a sword fight with John Wall and his contract is bought out or voided, then and only then should we be interested

not in a million years. a small market team can't make that $ commitment to an injured player. crazy or not, he would need to avg 25ppg/6assits just to break even. and him and jax can't be on the same team. not enough touches to go around. i've posted this multiple times but i would do diaw + jax for carter and a pick in heartbeat. gets us out of two contracts and we get vince in a contract year. he will play hard all year, mark my words, he is going to have a pretty good year. take a 1 year flier on a 17mil expiring. he will either be cap relief in june or a huge trade piece in feb.

Gilbert hasn't been good in 3 years and he will likely never live up to that contract. His deal is a four year death sentence. We aren't that desperate. Same goes for Brand.

They would have to give us Arenas,Javal Mcgee,2 unprotected first round picks, take back Caroll,Najera,Diop, and Diaw.Agree to buyout Diaw so we can re-sign him cheap in 30 days, give us the maximum amount of cash back they can in a trade until that contract is up,and make Adam Morrison wear a harry potter uniform courtside for all home games and i might consider it.lol.

Well we just released Crittenton so thats 1 hurdle lifted ;)
The only way I'd take Gilbert is if we gave them Diop. At least Diop's contract doesn't last as long as Gil's (if I'm remembering correctly anyway). But unfortunately, as good as he is or can be, his contract is REALLY bad, and if we're going to make any free agent splash in the next couple years, we're going to need some cap space.

Diop, Hammer and Nazr for Gilbert would work...I'd think about it. Would want McGee too....this is a pipe dream.

I love watching Arenas play, but would never want him with that horrible contract. His contract makes him more "un-trade-able" than his past errors in judgment.
