AJ Green. He's the best in the nation. A one of a kind.

Yeah, at least with Clausen (and maybe Pike) there's potential at the QB. The WR spot has an aging Smitty, a somewhat disappointing LaFell and the project in Armanti. Maybe Gettis turns into something, but none of those guys are #1 players (now or ever) and LaFell is the only guy who can catch well, which is why AJ would help.
I just hope Jerry gets us the rookie scale. Ironic, isn't it, that he'll be the first to use it and he's the one negotiating for it?

AJ isn't even as good as sophomore Alshon Jeffery, how is he the best in the nation?
I think it's all by design.
I still think Clausen will be decent, but I don't think you can pass on a guy like Luck. I think he's going to be great.
I think you take Luck, let he and Clausen battle for the spot for a couple years and then trade the loser somewhere for multiple picks.

Alshon doesn't have Green's speed or leaping ability. Green's route running is damn near flawless and he he can jump up and grab it like no other receiver in the country. He can take over a game. Don't get me wrong, Alshon is a very good fucking player but I see AJ Green as the next Randy Moss.

I think he's a hybrid between Randy and TO...just without their personal issues.

While he may not be as quick as AJ, he certainly has better hands and ability to go get the ball in the air with defense draped all over him.
Let's also not forget that Alshon, as a sophomore, is currently 5th in the nation in yards, while his yards per catch (17.3!!!) is higher than any other guy in the top 5.
Not to mention that his 1210 yards, with 3 games to go, is more than AJ has EVER had in his career and that he hasn't been suspended for 4 games--effectively ruining his teams major bowl chances.

Doesn't really matter though because he's ineligible since he's a sophomore. Do I think AJ Green this year and Alshon next year would be one of the NFL's best receiving duos in the league? Yes. I just think Alshon has a higher ceiling and is a more versatile player.
However, with the situation that the Panthers are in. They need to start from the inside and work their way out with the big boys on the line. That's how young, developing teams are made.
DT Marcell Dareus, Marvin Austin
DE Robert Quinn, Da'Quan Bowers
OT Anthony Castonzo, Gabe Carimi
OG Marcus Cannon, Mike Pouncey

He might be a better possession receiver since he has 20+ pounds on him but I dont think you can say he has better hand overall. Here are just some of the reasons why I have to disagree.
This is back in highschool where he goes spiderman in the game.

Here is another catch but for a touchdown this time.

You are not going to find Alshon making catches like those. Being that Green is a faster player, it helps him become a better route runner. While having 1210 yards already is very impressive, Alshon does have 2 less touchdowns while playing 4 more games then him. The ceiling is just a personal opinion on how good you think a person can be.
I do agree that if you can get BOTH on the same team, they can make Ryan Leaf look like Tom Brady. They are both that good. You cant go wrong with building from the inside out but we drafted Jimmy and we need to get some help since we really dont have much at the WR postion. Smith is getting old and the rest of the WRs are trash.

The thing we need to get right which is more important then ANY draft pick is picking up the right head coach. Thats where you start when you want to build a team. The one person that will make me jizz in my pants is Bill Cowher. I will jack my tits off every day if he becomes head coach.

Alshon has had at least 5 of those catches this year lol
Here's one where he shows his speed and strength, when it take 6th people to bring him down: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5774200
Wanna see more speed? Watch him beat his man 1on1 and bring in a tough catch: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5525800
Even more speed. See the trend of him being able to go across the middle? You want that toughness out of your receivers. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5744747
Tough catch with the pass interference: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5829457
There's a reason he has more yards per catch and total yards than AJ has EVER had.

Non of those catches were near the same diffcultly as the two Ive shown. You can even see by this video just how good of a route runner he is. There are so many times you wont even see a person within 10 yards of him and if they are, he will go Randy Moss on there ass and use his 6 4 height to out jump them.

When it comes to drafting, you have to go off the eye test and not the stat score. There is a reason Ron Danye has the most rushing yards in college history too but I'll pass on him if I had a top 3 pick in the draft.

Absolutely you take Luck. That guys will be special. You dont pass on a franchise QB unless you already have one. I like Clausen, but his ceiling is no where near that of Andrew Luck's ceiling. But if we dont have the #1 pick, and have #2 or #3, you go with AJ Green or the top Defensive player in the game. That would be Peterson of LSU or Bowers of Clemson. Just depends if you want a shut down corner or a terrific pass rusher. Cause face it, our Defense has some serious issues - much more than I thought we did. The DE's we have drafted the last couple years are OK, but nothing near the caliber of player they should be given where we drafted them. Bowers would be the best we have on Day 1. And Peterson is a pure shut down Corner like this team has never had before. Green is a special talent at WR and would be the replacement for Steve Smith in the future as our #1. Any of these 4 players would be great assets to the Panthers.

Terry Tate can go in the first couple rounds (wonder if he has any offspring that are ready to play in the NFL).

All indications are that the Panthers will not pay a high $ Coach like Cower or Gruden. I have been hearing they will go with an up and comer and hope to catch lightning in a bottle. I thought Frazier was at the top of the list, but Minny will likely keep him. Keep your eye on Ron Rivera. Smart as a whip when a player for Chicago, and he is getting plenty of experience in the asst coaching arena. His time is coming soon, and it may be in Carolina.

I wouldnt throw out Cower yet. He moved down to NC and now has a place in Raleigh so he can be closer to his daughter while she goes to school. She goes to Wofford College which is located in Spartanburg SC. That's perfect since we hold spring practice there. It just seems like a perfect situation for Cower and for the Panthers. Cower gets to start coaching again like he wants to and he's going to be close to his daughter which I think is VERY IMPORTANT to him. The Panthers get a proven coach that fits there style. Running game with a good hard nose defense.

With Ron Rivera we will probably draft Nick Fairley and not Dequan Bowers because we have Everette Brown who did have fine year, and if re-signed Charles Johnson. Also have Greg Hardy backing up one or other and he will be a starter in a year because he has bunches of talent just has to put it together. The pick that should occur is AJ Green who is noted as the best WR prospect since Fitz and Calvin J. AJ on one side and gettis on other, with Smith in the slot would work perfect, and yes i said smith in slot because he is suited perfectly for it at this age. I think that we should trade down if someone is willing to trade up, doubt it though with Luck gone, because then we could gather up a second rounder which we traded for a waterboy.

Nick Fairley or Patrick Peterson. Peterson is next shut-down corner and Fairley is a great athlete at the DT. I would go with Fairley because we have Gamble at the CB, however Peterson would be phenomenal in return game also.

I think I would still go with Cam Newton. He could sit and play behind Clawson for a few years. If Clawson turns out to be decent we trade him for more picks down the line.
If Fairley is turns out to be great he will win us a few games. If Newton turns out to be great he would win us a ton of games. His arm is very impressive.

first off, its Clausen.. not trying to sound like jerk but he is our QB so getting his name right is a must. Newton has too many flaws. In the championship game he proved he is not an elite QB throwing the ball. Doesnt set his feet when throwing and the Auburn receivers made him look good several times. When playing against good pass defense teams he relied his feet more than his arm to win the games. He is the 2nd best QB in the draft behind Gabbart. However Fairley's work ethic has started to become questioned at the scouting combine so i see the Panthers getting either Bowers, Peterson, or Quinn at #1. Quinn is best DE in draft and will show how athletic he is at combine. My best bet is Patrick Peterson.

Cam Newton. Why? Because I want a Charlotte team to be a headliner for ONCE.

After watching that press conference with Mallet, Newton looks like Peyton Manning in terms of respectability. Mallet is one stupid, arrogant hick

Yeah they were talking about how Mallett went around acting like he was Hot Shit, but then went on to say the other QB's gravitated to him and followed him around a bit so there's no denying he has that leadership ability.
I think the third person thing, though, is okay as long as he backs it up. However, the interviewers were able to knock him off his horse a little bit and got him flustered so it seems like he doesn't have that strong mental capacity.

Mallett smoked weed and got caught, therefore he is going to be nice in NFL.. I mean Moss, Harvin, Nicks, Raji all got caught and look at them. that wasnt serious statement btw. However after watching combine and reading about it Newton's stock has fallen because his passing ability is not first round type. Fairley's stock has fallen because he is not the prototypical size of a NFL DT, Bowers stock is questioned because he lied about him being 100% when he really isn't. If patrick peterson has stellar combine he will be number one pick.

My money is on Marcel Darious at #1. Big run stopper we need in the middle. I dont think either QB is a good bet with the #1 pick. Ideally, if they could get the CBA worked out prior to the Draft, I can see us swapping picks with Cincinnati and taking Carson Palmer from them. On Sirius FL today, they were opining we should sign Marc Bulger from FA at QB and use the #1 pick on Defense. Makes a lot of sense. Once Luck was off the table, there was really no clear cut franchise QB. And since we have a new HC, and our GM was all into drafting Clausen, it makes sense. Coach does not want a project at QB as he needs to win quickly. Dont kick Clausen to the curb as it is too soon. So get a veteran in who can help mentor Jimmy Clausen a couple of years.
