... someone makes me an unsolicited offer to buy BCP
It's not for sale, and I made that very clear to the guy
But just for fun, he offered me enough money for a new one of these

Or approximately 1200 lapdances at the gentlemen's club of your choice

I'm sure that once you told Bob Johnson that it wasn't Bobs Planet, it was really Bobcats Planet, he was no longer interested.

thats 1200 without happy endings.
I think we should convert the economy from dollars to lap dances. When you go out to eat for dinner instead of paying $50 you pay 5 lap dances... America would be a happier place.

Very Doubtful. It would have to be a ridiculous offer.

No wonder they made an offer out of the blue... this is the greatest and most influential Bobcats forum ever.

nah, they would probably make me sign a no compete type of deal.
I really want to grow this place really big like Celticsblog, Spurstalk, Lakersground and Clutchfans. Those guys are gigantic.

Yeah. Just promise us you'll never let ESPN get ahold of you.
Seriously though, if you had people investing but not owning a majority that'd be pretty cool.

How well do the ads on the site do?
Looking at a pure financial stand point, that could eventually add up. (Just humoring myself with this)
Regardless, I could defentaly see this site as big as any other NBA forum one day.

I like being able to have control over the direction of the site. Once you partner with investors then a good bit of that control is gone.

The ads do decently, but they what they earn will run at a loss to the server cost since we moved to a dedicated box.
I can live with the loss as long as it isn't huge.

I have a feeling there will be a little more local ads on the site in a year or so, judging by the growth and team success.
When I sold my panthers site to FOX several years ago, it was a huge mistake. Don't make that same mistake. I'm always here to help if you need it.
I thought I made an offer you couldn't refuse Zig. :p

you should set up a pledge board/donations board for the cost overage and we could donate to make a 0 loss venture (not counting man hours of course) if we feel so inclined.

It is the one major regret you'll have if you sell/add "partners" ziggy...build it yourself and keep control until you don't want it any longer or you get an offer that's "stupid" to refuse...

I've always felt weird about donations, so I've never been comfortable setting something like that up. I probably would avoid that path unless it became a financial hardship.
What I may do, Is set up a page where members can shop through various affiliate links. For example if they are going to buy something anyway from ebay, target, sears or buy.com for example, they could just shop through one of the links on that page and 3 or 4% of the sale would be kicked back to the site. That way there is no additional money out of anyone's pocket, they would get the same products at the same price AND that would be a little extra towards expenses.

I'm sure that I would regret it if I did it.
Did the site go downhill after Fox took it over?

Isn't over there in America, selling your site to Fox is basically giving it to the devil?

Yes, but you might get Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly in the chat room
I was promised a lot of things: AP content and photo access, media credentials, a magazine and improved technology. To be clear, when I sold my rights, the network wasn't owned by FOX at that point. The Fox sale came several months later when TheInsiders was bought by FOX.
I got access to photos and "expert" content, which was crap we knew a week later than we posted it. It was a total ripoff that eventually ended in lawsuits initiated by folks that had much larger sites than i did. At one point, I was drawing more traffic than Panthers.com. I saw the move to TheInsiders as the logical next step. Nothing ever materialized, and I spent several years trying to fight to get out of it. Most of my users never made the transition from my site to the FOX one, mostly because the system they hosted us on was (and is) horrid.
There were a lot of reasons why it failed, but the biggest one was that I lost the control and ability to do technologically what I needed to do to continue evolving the site.
I'm willing to help out wherever needed here. I know you mentioned starting up a Panthers edition of this site. I'm interested in helping with that if you need it. If we could get it launched in the next 3 weeks or so, we'd be ready when the biggest offseason in team history begins.

Gotta agree with the idea of a Panther's co-site.
Ziggy could have a monopoly on Carolina sports.!

I will also be happy to help with the expansion. I got mp3s and porn. We'll call it Robcatsplanet.com
In addition, if anyone DOES want to buy BCP and doesn't want to go through Ziggy, I have a bridge/site package deal that is ready for you!

After George Shinn and Bob Johnson, I think you're a good owner Ziggy.

The down-home ownership that you bring aligns itself well with the character of the Bobcats. Any out-sourcing of ownership would just ruin that. Lets just keep it Carolina and stay grassroots. Zig you are an excellent owner and I wish for nobody different, well except maybe me :D

Only if you get Wiz to record Blue and Orange...and promise not to wear a kilt :p
Nah, I think Zig is the best man for the job. We just need to get him some money off those links so he can retire and run this full-time!

Since Pittsburgh doesnt have a Bbball team maybe it's possible
And for clarification, I will wear my first kilt in Feb. But it's for charity so don't hate.

Maybe if MJ changes the team name to Taylors? Tropicana could sponsor the arena then.

I know. I'm just fucking with ya. Although, if we're talking about charity here, why can't you do a UNC version of the Life Ball. Because I'd rather see the UNC chicks in, uh, not much than I would to see you in a kilt. Especially if the winds are going.
