Eric Kulas, an untrained 17-year-old boy who looked much older due to being 6'2" and over 350 pounds, convinced Extreme Championship Wrestling (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extreme_Championship_Wrestling) President and booker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booker_%28professional_wrestling%29) Paul Heyman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Heyman) to allow him to fill in for Axl Rotten (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axl_Rotten) by lying that he had been trained by Killer Kowalski (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killer_Kowalski). Axl Rotten had been scheduled to work a tag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tag_team) match with D-Von Dudley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devon_Hughes) against The Gangstas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gangstas) (New Jack (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Jack) and Mustapha Saed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamal_Mustafa)), but Rotten had an urgent family emergency. Heyman stated afterwards that he was unaware of Kulas's age. Kulas performed as Mass Transit, a stereotypical police officer/security guard gimmick.
During the match, D-Von and New Jack brawled outside of the ring, while Mustafa and Transit fought inside the ring. The match was booked as a squash (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squash_%28professional_wrestling%29) and D-Von was quickly isolated outside the ring. The Gangstas then double teamed Kulas inside the ring, with New Jack beating the young man forcefully with toasters, crutches and various other objects. The end of the match saw New Jack blading (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blading_%28professional_wrestling%29) Kulas, making him bleed profusely. This sparked a series of events that included New Jack's arrest and the near-cancellation of Barely Legal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECW_Barely_Legal), ECW's impending first pay-per-view broadcast.
