2010 Version of Walter Cronkite (http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/12/08/851344/why-play-mcguire-instead-of-brown.html)

By Rick Bonnell - rbonnell@charlotteobserver.com

Many of you have written in lately to say you're mystified why Charlotte Bobcats coach Larry Brown is playing Dominic McGuire over Derrick Brown.

So I posed that question to Larry Brown after practice Wednesday.

His thoughts:

“(McGuire) is more of a (shooting guard/small forward) and Derrick is more of a (small forward/power forward). We’ve got Boris (Diaw), we’ve got Tyrus (Thomas) and we play Gerald (Wallace) there' (at power forward). Dominic is a much better defender. He’s a much better rebounder. And he’s coming off an injury (a preseason stress fracture), so we’re getting him to find his niche.

"Right now he’s trying to do too much,'' Brown continued on McGuire."The game he played against Milwaukee he got 15 rebounds, 16 points (actually 13) off six shots and shut John Salmons out. He’s not always going to go 5-for-6, but he’s a tremendous rebounder and has a chance to be a great defender. And he can handle the ball.''

In his last three games, this shooting guard / small forward has hit exactly 3 of 19 shots. 1-8, 1-7, 1-4.

:hysterical:

Rough day to be Mr. Bonnell. He's getting massacred in the thread where he admits he asked a leading question to Crash about Felton, and now in his blog where he posted this everyone's going flat crazy on him.

McGuire a better shooting guard? Hell, Diop has a better jump shot than McGuire. And you can quote that for truth.

Better rebounder, perhaps. Better defender? No. He should be on the bench where he belongs and UPS should be playing.

Time to get lost LB.

LB is trying to make himself look good. He hyped up McGuire this summer - talked about how he's liked his game for years and thought he would "surprise a lot of people".

So he's playing him in an attempt to make himself look like he found a diamond in the rough...instead the guy shoots 29% from the floor.

All I can say is there's a reason why McGuire has bounced around on 3 different teams in 4 years.....because he's not that good. Hustle and effort only get you so far. At some point skill has to factor in. This it typical LB though. He's like a kid with a new toy at Christmas. He's got to play with it non-stop until he gets tired of it. This has been his MO all along. When we got Diop it was all about Diop and Nazr disappeared, even though Diop was terrible. Then this year Diop was playing until Kwame got healthy and since then it's been all Kwame and Diop hasn't played since. I'm hoping the Dom thing will run its course soon though because it is frustrating to see Brown wasting away on the bench.

THIS! this is exactly what is happening. Its all about proving some stupid point about fundamentals.

Very funny that you posted that ... Steve called Dom D-Mac during the game last night which instantly lead me to make the same comparison.
