Take it for what it's worth based on the source.

he needs to keep quiet. i know he knows this but he really has no say over where he gets traded. let's say minnesota calls up denver and says kevin love, wes johnson and this year's #1 for melo. or memphis calls and offers gay, mayo and this years #1 for melo. no it won't happen in reality, but if a too good to be true 1/2 year rental offer came in and denver took it, would he really sign the extension?

just be quiet and do your manipulating behind the scenes.

^ EXACTLY! I'm more than willing to give up either one of GW and Jack (I say either one because keeping one of them would entice Melo to actually sign an extension) and Boris to get him here. We'd get some well needed cash to actually make some noise in free agency if he doesn't sign the extension and there's always the chance for him to sign the extension with his connection to MJ. Worst case scenario give both of 'em up for the hell of it..but what if we tried something like this and threw in a draft pick:

Do you think Denver would go for something like that? If Jack plays somewhat well they could either keep him or move his contract after the season as an expiring and Crash is always moveable. I think Denver could get in the playoffs with:

Lawson/DJ
Jack/Smith
Crash/Diaw
Kenyon/Harrington/Diaw
Nene/Andersen

Something needs to be done ASAP....MJ if you're reading.... grow a pair already. Draft picks, young talent, expirings.....fucking something, i'd rather get blown out by 30 with a roster void of Jax, Crash, Diaw, Nazr then lose by 30 with them. At least that way we wouldn't have expectations and we know where we're going..

Is there a worse core of centers in the league? I certainly can't think of one.

There was a time I would have called something like this crazy...those times are gone. If Carmelo is serious about signing wherever he goes (which I know could very well just be words at this point), then I say why not go all-in and bowl Denver over? Lord knows, what we have isn't working, so why not? If Carmelo intends to stay, then build around him. If not, you've cleared up cap space and future salary commitments. Either way, something needs to be done ASAP.

The Nets and Nuggets are working towards a complicated multi-team trade proposal that would send Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Anthony is expected to accept a contract extension with the Nets following a trade if the team is able to bring back a package of significant talent with him, according to league sources.

Doesn't mention us in there, but I'd imagine we'll be involved so we can trade Gerald Wallace and Stephen Jackson for Kris Humphries because he knows how to rebound.

Nets structuring new deal for Anthony (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-anthonytalks122110)

Denver’s and New Jersey’s trade partners are still unclear, but league executives said the Nets and Nuggets are tweaking several possible proposals with multiple teams. For now, New Jersey general manager Billy King is preparing to send rookie forward Derrick Favors (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/4718/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/4718/news), the expiring contract of Troy Murphy (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3524/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3524/news), two or three future first-round draft picks and $3 million to Denver for minimally Anthony and Harrington. More Nuggets and Nets would likely be on the move, too.
Center Brook Lopez (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/4472/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/4472/news) is the only Nets player not involved in any of the proposals, sources said.

The Nets would need to trade point guard Devin Harris (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3822/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3822/news) to a third team to help bring back more talent, and somehow they have to come out of this trade with a veteran replacement. Chauncey Billups (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3174/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3174/news) is a possibility, but there are questions about how much longer he can perform at an elevated level. Another player the Nuggets will likely move is shooting guard J.R. Smith (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3835/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3835/news), who has drawn interest from the Chicago Bulls (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/chi/). Smith is making $6 million in the final year of his contract, and would love to end up with the Bulls, sources said. So far, Denver has resisted Chicago’s overtures on Smith because it may need to include him in a larger deal with Anthony. Bulls GM Gar Forman has been calling league personnel to do more research on the temperamental Smith, sources said.
The Nuggets and Nets had the framework of a four-team trade with Utah and Charlotte in October, but the deal ultimately fell apart. As involved as that scenario was, one executive involved in the past and present discussions described these as “a more complex, even bigger deal.”
Billy King and Larry Brown are tight, so I can only figure (hope) we're in this in some form.

From our POV...maybe Crash/DJ/Nazr/Carroll for Murphy/Harris/Anderson?

Not true. They just want Denver to think that so that when Melo says no, the Bobcats get a "discount" trade.

I apologize for the "death of a 4th cousin" line in the other thread, apparently it was a close family member and the Nuggets are holding off from any further discussions for the time being while Melo is grieving.
