"Paul Silas' first practice as the new interim coach of the Charlotte Bobcats (http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/team/charlotte-bobcats/71951) Thursday had one noteworthy twist.

Instead of practicing with a 24-second shot clock, the Bobcats worked with a 14-second shot clock."

Will the new uptempo-style lead to more wins?

I'm a pretty firm believer that TT, Hendo, UPS, Jack, Crash, and Boris can all shine in a high tempo offense. Jack, Crash, and Boris have all been in high tempo offenses before and enjoyed success on all of those teams. I'm intrigued to see DJ passing in the fast break as I think he can find success because small guards seem to do well when the pace is quicker also.

I think problem #1 with this team under LB was that it was a bunch of quick, athletic guys built for a team coached by Mike D'Antoni or Don Nelson; but they were coached by someone who believed in the polar opposite.

I posted this in the Silas thread but I wonder if starting Diaw or Thomas at Center would be a bad thing. Amare scores and plays much better defense at the Center than at PF. There is no question T.T. has all the physical tools to be just as good a scorer and shot blocker as Amare in the Run and Gun and the Bobcats perimter defense is much better than the help Amare gets.

thank god. if we're gonna suck, at least let me be entertained.

then again...how many turnovers will we average now going from slow to fast? 30? lol. should be interesting

The team will score more points AND they'll be more fun to watch, but defense will suffer big time. Which is ironic because defense has always helped this team stay in games.

Right now we're not doing either well.

I never understood why people think high tempo offense leads to bad defense.

It's possible to run on offense while still playing tough D. I think BCP/RGM people have long said an uptempo style offense is one that we should run. DJ, Crash, and TT are going to be the major benefactors of an uptempo offense.

Plus the fans are going to actually enjoy seeing them RUN, RUN, RUN!

Name me a team in the NBA that plays uptempo on offense and plays great defense. New York? Phoenix? Golden State? No, no, and no.

Thats probably why he wants to bring in Baron. Baron has run a uptempo offense before and he knows how to run it. PG is the most important position on the floor in an uptempo offense(See Felton in NY, Nash in PHX, Baron in GS....)

But we aren;t playing defense now anyways. Plus we have good individual defenders like Crash and Tyrus who will play defense regardless of what system they are in.

Absinthe, just because some teams around the league are playing up tempo and cant defend doesnt mean we cant

hopefully we bring in a new center then and TT starts cuz i cant see Diaw and Naz adopting a run run run up tempo style of play too well.

If we are going to be running up-tempo, that must mean the Camby/Miller for Crash/Augustin trade talk is nothing more than that. I havent watched much of Camby, but surely he cant be very effective in an up-tempo style of play.

Adelman has had teams ranked in the top 5-6 in scoring and defense...in the same year...but with every system it depends on the players you have...but it is certainly possible to be up-tempo and play solid defense...

"I want us to get up and down and let it all hang out. If they don't want to get up and down, they can come sit down by me."

God Bless you, Paul. It'll be fun to see Matt Carroll play more, too.

CO SIGN....this is great. The beauty of it is that we have the players to run an effective up tempo style game, Crash,Jax, DJ, TT, UPS, Henderson, Doris and even Livingston. Players should be pumped and excited now, to run a more free flowing style game with Silas.

Defensively, if Silas puts enough emphasis on it/holds players accountable for it, i don't see why we can't play effectively on both ends.

I'm excited and can't wait for our next game. It might be trash, but i want to see the differences this new approach from a new coach will have on our players and the development of our young prospects.

I already saw this coming, and it's gonna be awesome. All of our players benefit from an uptempo system - DJ, Jack, Crash, TT, Boris, etc.,

I'm also looking forward to Silas coming in with an open mind and playing the guys that should be out there without bias - UPS, Hendo...

If we go running maybe Diaw will be less pudgy :). I've seen the bobcats play a run/gun game once or twice (I think once against the pacers and once against the nuggets) my timeline isn't 100% accurate, but I *THINK* that the nuggets game was the first year larry was here, and we lost but not crazy, and the pacers game was new years during Sam Vincent, but it was something to see, we killed them.

I just hope we dont make a major trade until we see how the team plays with the new style of play. I would be okay doing a Nazr or Diop swap for Reddick, but dont trade for a new starting PG until we see how the team plays first.

except baron is a fat, broken down old man who can't run up and down the court anymore. he hasn't done it for 3 1/2 years! this is exactly why we shouldn't do this deal without aminu or minnesota's pick coming back. if this is the way we are going to go change your avatar to devin harris and hope for him.

It's be nice to see this change, just to give the team a chance to show something else. Maybe that's just what they need to really click. Maybe the new slogan for this season should be "Run Cats Run"

Honestly I hated watching the Cats slow down the game. LB's plays tooks forever and didn't work. Only one that seemed productive was the Wallace top of the key off the screen shot. And that only worked when Wallace hit the jumper. I do like that the big men stopped getting so many moving screens in the pick and roll. Tyson and Okafor were notorious for that. We'll see tonight if running equals more points

i would be prepared for an ugly offensive game tonight. not that we were watching beautiful basketball before by any means. but, it is hard to just "go out and run" after slowing it down for two years. plus, aside from dj nobody on our team can really shoot in transition. our roster is designed for the half court. even jax needs too much time to set up his shots. he did well in golden state because the cast around him could shoot in transition so he could trail or spot up on the break.

LA puts up a lot of points, but no one would call them an uptempo offense.
