Per ESPN article:
Hopefully the league can figure out one way where it can go back to the '80s where you had three or four All-Stars, three or four superstars, three or four Hall of Famers on the same team. The league was great. It wasn't as watered down as it is [now].
Wow. This guy really wants to alienate himself from the rest of the league. Comments like this are not going to sit well with fans and especially players. I'm disliking Lebron more and more every day.

I support LBJ keeping his stupid mouth shut.
Player's Union has to really love him saying that right before the upcoming CBA.
I have grown to respect whoever his handlers were in Cleveland for keeping him from saying this stupid stuff.
As I recall, the Heat were an expansion team...

The miami brass are thinking....Lebron, shut your pie hole

The guy seems to only thinks of himself. While he's trying to get his net worth up to $1 billion he doesn't think of the other 98% of the league that actually has to worry about their job and money.

LeBron does not know what he is talking about. The game is different, rules change. We have a BIGGER pool of players now since the NBA is more international. Even back in the 80s we had teams with 0 hall of famers/all stars. Just because they had 2-4 teams stacked doesn't mean every team was like that. Contraction is stupid.
i agree with him and think contracting 2-4 teams would help the league. but, the expense comes to the players who lose their jobs and all the others outside of lebron and the top 8 in the league. players like joe johnson, amare etc would not be paid nearly as much. the union is probably pretty upset with him right now.
really he is trying to justify his big 3 move to get easy championships.

Exactly. He seems to also have the attitude that the best is all that matters, seeing as how that's been his world since he was a kid.
I wonder if he thinks the NBA would be best if he and his elite friends picked two teams and played each other 100 times a year?

Ok Bron so what you say and what you mean are 2 completely different things. Seriously, what a complete tool this guy is. He did the same thing about the racist comments and now he's trying to change or "modify' what he said before because it was taken the "wrong way".
Hey here's a comment Diva, the league could do without your stupid mouth and the words that come out of it like "I'm taking my talents to Miami" how about that...

It's fairly funny I think...I agree Miami doesn't have the "handlers" on him they they did in Cleveland. He makes stupid comments to the press frequently, doesn't have any filter for interviews etc...
Now to speak about contraction, I think it's actually the opposite, I think the NBA would do great with a few more teams. We have 30 now, the league could support 32-34 (keep it even east/west, or if you go 33, make east/west/central). Cities I'd investigate:
Seattle (like Charlotte, they would be happy to get a team back).
San Diego (no one who lives there want's to go to LA).
ABQ, NM (can't spell, no other professional sports, but lots of people).
I bet NJ wouldn't mind getting another team back at The Rock once the Nets go.
Pittsburgh maybe?
Louisville KY was thinking about a team
last I think Kansas City was thinking about a team.
Don't forget many cities who have never had professional sports or haven't had for a long time would be biting at the bit. OKC got a taste, they sell out consistently, charlotte did in it's day (and will again, fickle people here are nutty).

there are other cities where basketball could work but the issue i have is there aren't enough players. their are players starting now who aren't nearly good enough to start. there are players getting paid big dollars who aren't good enough just because every team needs at least 2 high priced players. the talent is watered down. i would rather see 26 or 28 really good teams playing than 32-26 really ok teams playing.

Contraction has nothing...NOTHING to do with the level of play of the starters for all the teams or even the 12th or 15th spot on all the teams. The NBA will not contract because the TV money is too much to walk away from. We saw it here in Charlotte, the NBA left and not surprisenly the Bobcats didn't come out of the gates in ticket or TV viewers (thanks CSET/Cable Companies) as the Hornets did, because a lot of NBA fans in the Carolinas were pissed at the NBA/Hornets and had learned to spend their time and money elsewhere.
Contraction talks are a bargaining tool in the upcoming CBA fiasco. But if the NBA contracts 5% of it's teams, their are 5% less games, 5% less TV revenue and none of that works when both sides want more than they have now.
What probably will happen is a few teams (Toronto, New Orleans, Indiana) will possibly move to a different city...or Country if Stern gets his way.
Unfortunately, it's not necessarily what the fans want, or what makes sense, it's what the TV ratings will dictate.

Is it the players fault on who gets these high priced contracts? Was there no bad teams in the 80s?
There really is no difference now then compared to the 80s to be honest. We have teams now that have 2/3/4 all stars. We even have a couple teams with 2/3 hall of famers. Each team has there 1 or 2 players that are the focal point of the team. I think everybody is blowing this way out of proportion like the 80s had every team with 3 or 4 hall of famers and each team was in the running for a title. LOL.

all true but in the 80's a guy like deng would not be paid like he is because there were truly only 1 franchise guy. i guess this is off topic but i am more of a fan of 8 or so really strong teams than parity. the basketball played by the top 8 teams (minus the heat) in the league is so much better than the other teams. the thing i am worried about is it being the same 8 cities every year because of free agency and superteams. if it was a build through the draft and good trades, meaning every team has a chance to be one of the best/build a dynasty it would be great. i am afraid the nba will turn into mlb with a cap because of the superfriends model.

Its not Deng's fault that he got the contract he has now. The one you should be mad at for that situation is the person that signs his check. How will the Bad Boy Pistons fair in todays game? They will get T'd up the ass if they try that shit they played back in the day. I just keep each era in their own perspective and not try to compare, unless its for shit and giggles but never for serious matter.
I think if anything, you contract Minny and Memphis, and make it 6 playoff spots per 14-team conference (move Indy or Milwaukee to the West). But I'd much rather see them move to Seattle and Cincinnatti.

my point isn't that deng is at fault (if they offered me that i would take it too). my point is in a contracted league, you would more obviously know who your true franchise players are, who the great #2's are and so on. instead we have a watered down league where guys are paid as franchise players when they are not. it screws the team and is bad for the league as a whole. it is more to the protect the owners from themselves. and you are 100% correct about comparing eras. you can't do it for serious, it has to be for shits and giggles. like imagine nash's durability in the 80's when he would be picking himself up off the floor after every trip to the paint.
