While Jordan wants to save some money and this would give us a little more room under the cap I would hope like hell we don't make this deal. Yao is too injury prone to make a difference on our team and should probably be retired after this season. What exactly is the FA class for next season? Does having Yao's money coming off the books really help our team? Do you guys think he is worth the chance of keeping? What are all y'alls opinions on this?

Would be a BIG gamble, it would either be a great on or a awful one. Not sure where i stand on this one

If yall support trading for Oden, like many of you have said you would support......then you better support bringing in Yao. Not only would bringing him to Charlotte make tons of money for the team, but if he can stay healthy and play 10 mins a game, he would have a HUGE impact. Not to mention that we would have a All Star every single year.

How could it hurt? You either get lucky and he comes back next year healthy and we have our solution at center... or you save some money. I dont see the down side.
either way, you are gonna sell a shit ton of Bobcats jerseys if you sign him.

Are you ready to give up Gerald Wallace for him?

I would give up Crash for Yao if we could get other pieces along with Yao and we could dump Diop

Eh, I don't know...have to see what we'd give up. If we can dump Diop and Carrol's contracts, then Ok, I guess. I wouldn't expect Yao to play a minute for us. When big guys have as many foot problems as he has had, it just doesn't bode well at all. I know the expiring is the deal with him, but I'd rather go after JRich and some Orlando pieces (Diaw/Diop or Carrol for JRich & Reddick or Richardson?) to allow us to explore trading Crash or Jack for more talent. That way, you've still got a big expiring and most likely more talent than a straight deal with Houston could do, IMO.

It all depends upon whom we have to give up. But that would be over $17 mil off the books next season. I think he's retiring with those bad feet. And if we dont trade away Nazr, that goes to over $23 mil off the books. That is a lot of room to do some FA damage. And with our lack of ability to draft well, going the FA route might be a whole lot better.

Dude really shouldn't be making so many pure cap moves with the possibility of a dramatically different CBA on the way....

I'm not really sure what we could offer Houston that would make the deal worth while for both teams, unless they valued Diop or Nazr. Essentially, it would be a salary dump for us. However, if they're not getting picks or quality talent, they're viewing it as a salary dump also. If it's something like Carroll, Diop, and something else, then of course we should take the trade. However, we shouldn't give up any draft picks for him nor should we remotely believe he's going to be a contributor.

Just what does next seasons FA class look like? What is out there that can become a major improvement to our team? If the FA class is weak would getting Yao really be worth it? I am one to think it would be better to try and get JRich and/or Redick from Orlando in exchange for Boris and maybe someone like Carroll or Najera if possible. If the FA class was anywhere like last seasons and we could free up space letting the contracts of Nazr and Yao expire I would be fine. The way I understand it, the FA class of next season is not all that great so I am not all that sold on bringing in Yao. Also I covet draft picks and what it means to build a contender through the draft.

would be really really really stupid to give up picks for Yao.
but if we can dump a few contracts for an expiring one ie. Carroll and Diop, wouldn't be a bad move.

Crash for Yao??....You people are crazy. This isn't a video game this is real life and Yao is done in the NBA. He never lived up to his hype and has only played 5 games in the last two years. He's a 7 foot chinese Sean May. I know we need a big man but Yao isn't the one

LOL
I think comparing him to Sean May is definitely taking some creative liberty but I agree that Yao barring a medical miracle is done in the NBA or at the very least will be a shell of his former self.
If we could dump some of our garbage contracts for him great as we can clear some space otherwise i agree we need to kep what we have and bring in a scorer

It would seem there really isn't any stars available through free agency and I am not so sure any difference makers can be had through a trade or trades. It is best we keep our picks. We don't have Larry Brown asserting his willl when it comes to who we pick and whoever the coach is next season we can be assured our picks get some playing time either with us or in the D -League. Either way I like the idea of keeping picks and if at all possible acquiring more picks through a trade or trades.

But Sean may was not a national hero in China. Yao would pump millions in terms of apparel sales and tickets back into the team. I don't like the idea but i don't hate it either.

He's a national hero...When he actually plays. You think Houston, as much time and money as they put into Yao, would be willing to let him go if they thought he could still play? Yao, foot injury or not is slow. He's not a good defender and if he wasn't 7'7 he would be absolutely worthless. He would have fit perfectly in LB's slowed down offense, but thankfully those days are over. Yao will never be a allstar again, He wont score 20 pts, and the team bus moves faster underwater then Yao.....Just say no!!

It isn't so much letting him go, as wanting to still pay him his full contract.
With the exemption, they can save a ton - also, they can actually shop him around.

Crash in two years is going to be limping around like Yao anyways... Its lateral imo.
If we were going to immediately rebuild and had some picks to work with and *gasp* develop some talent this time around, then I'd be the first to throw a parade in Wallace's honor for his distinguished service to the city. I'd miss him, but his best years are behind him and the team needs to move forward.
(He'll probably have a few good games once he gets back from injury, especially in the new pace and easy schedule, but I really don't care...)

I think you have to choose a direction. Are you a fast break team? If so, I don't think Yao's the answer even if he's healthy. If you expect to run more half court, then Yao's an asset if you can keep him on the court. I like Yao but I don't think you do this. If we're giving up draft picks, I want a player I'm sure we can depend on.

Yao is done with basketball. I would only consider him if we get good pieces in return, like Williams, Budinger, Patterson, Hill or picks.

in terms of unrestricted free agents...the list of big name contributors is
Melo (although it's likely he will trade and resign somewhere before then)
Nene
JR Smith
TMAC (lol)
Tayshaun Prince
Shane Battier
TJ Ford
Shannon Brown
Zach Randolph
David West (Early team option)
Azuibuke
Jason Richardson
Greg Oden?
Carl Landry
Duncan (early team option)
Barbosa
Kirilenko
not really any max contract guys considering melo and duncan will likely not be available to us
No, don't want this, Yao is done. Plus, I don't want to give up anymore draft picks, I'd rather us be trading for draft picks.

NO. Yao is DONE, he will never regain his all star form ever again, not even close to it. I definitely don't want to trade draft picks to get him. We need them(draft picks). The only downside i see in drafting is Higgins and MJ. FIRE HIGGINS, hire Pritchard.

This is a team by team list of restricted and unrestricted FA's for the next 2 summers. Dallas and Boston will be doing a lot of shopping.

I'd trade junk for him and picks, not good and picks for him. Either way he's a big expiring. If we had to do this I wish we could have done it earlier so we could package Yao back out with someone else to upgrade. It'd be interesting to see if we could get Yao and trade him back out for something good and/or picks

From everything I've seen, Yao is done...why would Houston do this unless we are giving up assets (i.e. Crash, etc) which leads to the question why would we give up Crash for salary relief? Houston certainly isn;t going to be taking on Diop or Carroll when they could just let Yao expire.

Most of Yao's contract is covered by insurance so a trade for him would result in major savings.
From what I read they want 1) expirings 2) picks AND 3) talent.
They're not giving him away at all.
