Well, say goodbye to any increase in his trade value. Also, say hello again to Kwame.

I was just going to post this!
Man, now we really have to make a trade to get a center. Trade Wallace for a 2 and 5

Gana Diop the seven foot Gerald Wallace.
No offense
good defense
and always injured.
sigh.

This.
I'm sure there are half a dozen centers in the D-League that would be at least as productive as Gana.

of course i say this as a salary numbers guy only. maybe we will get lucky and his career will be over and insurance will pay us the contract.
actually, i feel bad for him. he was just starting to get some quality PT and showing at least a little defensive production. by all accounts, he is a very nice guy. i hope he gets better.

Maybe Matt Rogers will end up back in Charlotte. He's been decent... I guess... :/

How about signing Sean Williams? Ran into a few personal issues between Boston College and the Nets but perhaps a recently permanent stint in the D-League has humbled him some. His stats look pretty impressive.

Few other guys I noticed doing well in the D-League, as far as I know not on an NBA roster....
Chris Johnson, Louisiana State

Raymond Sykes, Clemson

Big yes to Sean Williams. I wanted him on the team out of college with or without the off the court issues. He is a shot blocking machine.

I've met Sean twice... I don't see how anyone could like the guy. Although Tyrus is crazy and JAX is a wildman, they both try and do the right thing more often then not. Sean? Naw, I'm good.
Damn. Well, I hope Kwame is ready to play, and I hope Diaw eats some more. And Tyrus' minutes just jumped.

I wanted Sean Williams when the Nets offered us the pick they used to draft him for McMay.
But We need to deal Wallace and get a center. I am really warming to the idea of Wallace for Roddy B/Haywood(It works great I tried it on NBA 2K11 all afternoon!)

I couldn't disagree more about the Wallace for Haywood/Roddy deal. There is no way I would want Haywood's contract. We can do way better than that if we decide to deal Wallace.
And, put me in the absolutely yes camp to Sean Williams.

That's a damn good question. Is he even insured?
This totally sucks. Not that he was all that great...but he's at least a BODY that can play some defense. Most likely we'll either do something stupid to try and get some depth or MJ will finally go ahead and face what could be the inevitable.

If the Clips were still interested in Crash, trading him for Kaman would definitely be a better option. But, we have to address the center position. I still don't understand why if Chandler wanted out we didn't ensure that we re-signed Damp once we released him.
Anyone know how this works with Diop's contract? Can't we apply for an injury exception or something like that. I wish he would just retire at this point.

Nevermind, apparently disability insurance covers 6.48 mil IIRC of his salary this year, but I don't know how that works towards the cap.
Oh, and I expect us to make a move soon as Nazr is also injured and out for tonight with a yeast infection, errr, ahhhhh, I mean, a sore knee (boo hoo).

On the bright side Kwame is playing on a great contract(i know right). Im going to do some research on the insured contracts after the game.

proudidd, why would we trade for another injured centre in Kaman. He has barley played this year

I knew he was injured before, didn't know he still is... Well, just chalk it up to another dumbass move and at least he'll be a more skilled injured center. lol

I was hoping we could move his bad contract in some kind of a trade, but that seems unlikely now. Let's hope Diaw doesn't come down with his own yeast infection because he needs to spend some time in the middle now. (no comment about him already having one). You do have to kind of feel bad for Diop now that he gets to be under a coach that he has played for before and was getting some minutes.

How does insurence work on NBA contracts?
Darius Miles is the most recent well know "insurance case". See this link http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090104155218AAkePb3 So it seems like MJ could save some money AND we could get some cap relief, but that's only IF Diop is deemed to have a career ending injury.
Darius Miles signed a 6 year, 48 million contract with the Blazers in 2004. He subsequently suffered what was deemed a "career ending" knee injury where doctors concluded that his surgically repaired knees would make it impossible to play in the NBA again. At the point the Blazers elected to waive him, they still owed Miles $18 million for the final 2 years of his contract.
The "career ending" status allowed the Blazers to waive Miles and have his salary paid by the insurance policy teams carry on players for these situations. The NBA also allows this contract to be removed from their salary cap calculation in these situations. The catch is that if the player signs and plays at least 10 games with another team then the "career ending" status is null and void and the Blazers in this case become responsible for the salary and it counts toward their cap.
Miles signed with Memphis and just needs to appear (play enough to be in the box score) in 10 games for the salary to revert back to the Blazers. At this point he has played 1 game for Memphis and this would significantly limit the power of the Blazers in free agency. I expect Memphis signed Miles for that exact reason as NBA teams see the Blazers as a dynasty in the making.

Diop's injury is not career ending...although that would be nice cap-wise.

Mark Cuban has been fucking this team without lube for some time now. He's was foolish to overpay Diop and it looks like he was going to be stuck with a defensive minded back-up center making beau-coup bucks. Then the Bobcats take him off his hands. Charlotte signs Matt Carroll to a shitty contract, he's traded to Dallas, and then he's traded back to Charlotte. Dallas ends up with Tyson Chandler and he's been one of the best centers in the league this year. Oh, and Cuban also got rid of Najara.

Could we argue his career was over prior to the injury?
And I hate linking anything in wikipedia, but here is a list of some pro-athletes that have gone through this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achilles_tendon_rupture:
Many professional athletes deal with achilles tendon ruptures, the majority of them coming from the NFL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL). Rupturing an Achilles tendon is a very serious injury that takes months to rehabilitate and it has even been known to end careers. Athletes who have ruptured their Achilles include those from the NFL, NBA, NHL, professional soccer, college athletes, etc.
This is a list of a few well known professional athletes who have undergone an Achilles rupture: Todd Pinkston (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Pinkston), WR for the Philadelphia Eagles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_Eagles), Dan Marino (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Marino), QB for the Miami Dolphins (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miami_Dolphins), Reggie Kelly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reggie_Kelly), TE for the Cincinnati Bengals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cincinnati_Bengals), Marlin Jackson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marlin_Jackson), CB for the Philadelphia Eagles, Vinny Testaverde (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinny_Testaverde), QB for the New York Jets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Jets), Jerome James (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerome_James) from the Chicago Bulls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Bulls), Mehmet Okur (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehmet_Okur) from the Utah Jazz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_Jazz), Justin Williams (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justin_Williams) from the Carolina Hurricanes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolina_Hurricanes), Kalin Lucas a point guard from Michigan State, Misty May-Treanor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misty_May-Treanor) from the U.S (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S). Olympic beach volleyball team, and professional wrestler Edge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edge_(wrestler)). Most recently, David Beckham (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Beckham), an internationally known footballer and icon ruptured his achilles tendon, also ending his ability to play in the 2010 FIFA World Cup (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_FIFA_World_Cup) for England (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England).
