Ok, I was trying to think of a way to develop our young players, gain cap flexability, and stay in the playoff hunt

LA OUT:
Kaman
Butler

LA IN:
AK-47

UTAH OUT:
AK-47
Okur

UTAH IN:
Diop
Jack
Nazr

CHARLOTTE OUT:
Diop
Jack
Nazr

CHARLOTTE IN:
Butler
Kaman
Okur

Why for LA
Butler has not done anything for them and is just there to match up the salaries. Jordan is their center now: what they need is a SF which Kirilenko gives them. His contract is expiring which gives the frugal Clippers money to lock up Jordan and offer Kirilenko a reasonable contact after the season. Davis/Bledsoe, Gordon, Kirilenko, Griffin, Jordan is a sick lineup

Why for Utah
Get Jackson for Kirilenko, gives Williams a go-to scorer. Also lets Miles play at his natural SF position, and lets Bell come off the bench, which he needs to at this point in his career. Okur has been hurt, Nazr can help them now. Diop's contract is bad, but he can be a backup next year. Nazr is a free agent so helps them resign Miles this summer. Lowers their payroll by about 5 million, which gets them just under the luxury tax. That has always been a big deal for that franchise: they have given away players such as Eric Maynor just to get under the luxury tax in the past and this way they keep their young players. Williams, Jack, Miles, Millsap, Jefferson is a playoff team

Why for Charlotte
Moving Jack hurts a bit, but I really want to see Hendo develop as the starter. Moving Jack allows Carroll to be second string, which he needs to be with that contract. Getting rid of Diop and Jack gives us a ton of expiring contracts next year with Livingston, Diaw, Kaman, Okur or a ton of cap space in 2012. Kaman just came back from injury and in time can really help us offensively(he averaged 18 a game last year). Okur has been hurt, but when healthy can contribute

Depth Chart
PG: DJ, Livingston, Collins
SG: Hendo, Carroll, Butler
SF: Wallace, Brown, McGuire
PF: Diaw, TT, Najera
C: Brown, Kaman, Okur

Thoughts?

When making unconfirmed, non-rumored deals, please say "Trade Idea: etc, etc, etc" in your title.

Also, we say yes to that deal. Clippers say maybe if it's tweaked a little more. Jazz say no. Okur/Diop is the deal breaker

DEAL! But I would just do it with the Clipps to get Kaman for Jack essentially. Kamn looked great last night in his first game back.

I like it SWedd...the only caveat I see is the reports I've seen seem to indicate the Clip want a SF they can turn into a "big three" with Griffin and Gordon...I'm not sure if AK at 31 would fit that requirement for them or not...but I like it for us...

I agree Diop's contract is bad but the luxury is a big deal for small market teams. I mean the Bobcats took on Najera and Carroll and cut a valuable contract in Dampier to get under it. Utah also will probably lose AK-47 to a team like New Jersey anyway so need to get something. Letting players expire will continue to frustrate DWill, like losing Matthews and Korver did this year. Getting Jack will help them score a lot more, hopefully encouraging DWill to stay.

LA just took Aminu in the top 10, should still try and develop him. I would probably throw UPS in if that would help. I like him but he doesnt get a ton of minutes and I think he can be replaced. Having to resign Jordan this year and Gordon, Griffin in a few will take some cash so the expiring will help them.

spanky...I've been somewhat confused by the Clips stance of "adding a SF" to make them a big three...Griffin, Gordon+SF...I like Aminu but he does need time...and I'd think a guy older (maybe 28-32) would be a better fit at this time...I'm sure they'd do it for Crash but I get the feeling MJ is trying to bring in a player to complement Crash and Jack rather than deal one of them...

I just don't think (hope I'm wrong) that we get anyone that makes that much difference without Crash or Jack included...but I really like the deal just don't think the Clips trade Kamen for AK...essentially...I'd really like to be wrong about that...

Diop is out for the year and is not an expiring contract. No way anyone takes him in a trade. We would have to send out Nazr instead, someone who can give them 20 minutes per game and is an expiring.

Im going off Marc Stein's report that the Clippers would move Kaman for a SF with a "reasonable contract." He wrote that an expiring like Prince would be more appealing than someone like GW so that the Clipps could resign Jordan. While I like this trade, if I all I could get was Jack for Kaman, I would pull it

I bet we could convince them to give us Kaman for Jack....his contract is very reasonable for a 20 ppg scorer.

Spanky...you're correct...I forgot that report...so many over the last couple of weeks they're getting harder to keep up...I stand corrected...LOL...in light of that I made a slight adjustment on your initial deal...one I actually like...

Bobcats out....Diaw and McGuire
Bobcats in......Kaman

Utah out........AK47
Utah in..........Diaw and Gomes

LAC out.........Kaman and Gomes
LAC in...........Kirilenko and McGuire

Trade machine says Butler can't be traded...and we save money keeping Nazzy...and MJ is much more likely to deal if Jack and Crash both stay...
Utah saves over 10 million this year and they wanted Diaw with AK going out in the Melo deal plus Gomes gives them depth...
LAC gets two small forward that are both expiring...but also an opportunity to sign AK on a cheaper contract next year if they want to keep him...

We (and Utah) might both have to send 2nds to LAC to make it work...but I like this deal and it might actually fly...and still give us flex with Nazzy as an expiring...

This trade is a lot less complex and a better trade for LAC and UTAH. While Diaw has frustrated me, he has been one of our most steady players this year. It would be tough to lost him with TT out a month past the trade deadline. It would open a roster space, so if we could get a backup 4 as a FA it might work. Im just scared starting Najera for a month will really set us back. Maybe UPS could play some 4, get him back in the rotation.

spanky...I seriously doubt Utah or LAC would think they're getting the "better"...we end up with the only "All-Star" and arguably the best player being dealt...

and your deal had Butler in it and he cannot be traded...I was assuming we were talking about a deal that might/could work...less complicated deals "usually' get done...this is a good deal (IMO) that helps all three teams because I see no winner or loser...

Addition: My best guess would be LAC would say no anyway...even with 2 2nds coming back...unless they really want to move Kaman and it is the best offer they can get for him...and what to do at the 4 would be our problem but a combo of Eddie and D Brown would have to cut it until TT is back...

I meant better in that LAC get picks and Utah does not take Diop. Kaman is the best player, but everyone gets something, be that cap space to resign players or free from the luxury tax. Plus Utah could flip Diaw next year to help D Williams. Makes sense for everyone, but would be tough for us until TT comes back. Nice trade

I ran the idea by Yannis on his chat this AM...would have preferred Kyler or Ingram but Yannis is OK...I feel I would have received a similar answer from the other two...

Larry in Blowing Rock, NC:
Good morning Yannis...trade I'd like your opinion... Bobcats out Diaw, McGuire Bobcats in Kaman LAC out Kaman and Gomes LAC in Kirilenko and McGuire Utah out Kirilenko Utah in Diaw and Gomes

http://www.hoopsworld.com/images/hw_icon.gif
Yannis Koutroupis:
Hey, Larry. Just not too sure the Clippers would be willing to give Kaman up for Kirilenko. Don't think it makes much sense because that basically makes it a salary dump. Andrei would be unlikely to return next year and it's not like they're needing to rent him for any kind of playoff run.

Yannis also had this question...not mine...but I liked the answer...

Anthony in Kent, OH:
Of the lotto teams, who do you expect to pick it up a bit after the AS break?

Yannis Koutroupis:
Charlotte, Memphis, Golden State and Houston.
