I saw that the previous trade thread was up to 41 pages, so I thought a new thread would be okay. With the 'Melo to NYK deal finalized, let the flood gates open for the next 2 days of moving and shaking. Hopefully our boys will be involved in a trade or two before the clock strikes 3pm.

Now that the Melo deal is done small trade are going to result from it. There are talks of Felton to NJ which would put Harris OTB. I could see us offering Wallace or Jack for a PG. What do you guys think will happen.

I might start a rumor. Denver and Charlotte do a deal and as part of it, DJ will go to Denver and Ray comes back to Charlotte. In this screwed up world, something like that would just be poetic and could easily happen with the Bobcats.
This posted this AM at Hoopsworld...
Its Time For Gerald To Go: The Charlotte Bobcats are also expected to trigger a deal in the next 48-hours and the question is will it be guard Stephen Jackson or forward Gerald Wallace. The Bobcats are currently sitting at 24-32 and just one game out of the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
The Bobcats had hoped that their coaching change which sent out Larry brown and brought in Paul Silas would jumpstart a lagging disinterested club, however with two days remaining until the trade deadline, the Bobcats who were preaching "no deals" almost two weeks ago are firmly in the mix and are offering up one of its core players.
Wallace has the better contract with two years at $9.5 million per season, and is slated to earn $9.5 this season.
Jackson on the other hand, has two seasons worth $9.25 million and $10.09 million after this season's $8.45 million is paid.
The Bobcats would like to move one of the two along with forward Boris Diaw who is slated to earn $9 million this season and has a player option worth $9 million for next season.
League sources familiar with Charlotte's stance, say they want any team taking on Wallace or Jackson to agree to take on Diaw, and the Bobcats are not looking for a lot in return for either player.
The Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets have both been talking with Charlotte and have similar offers… Dallas is offering the ending contract of Caron Butler and a couple of younger assets such as rookie Dominique Jones. Where Houston's trade offer is based on the ending insurance-covered contract of Yao Ming and younger players like Chase Budinger and Courtney Lee.
The Bobcats have been talking fairly aggressively over the last week and it seems fairly clear that they will trigger something in the next 48-hours.

Ziggy and Spectre, I totally agree. I think this will turn out badly for the Bobcats. But let MJ make his own bed. He will have to sleep in it.
I just found this also...from Jason Flemings chat at HoopsWorld yesterday...sounds to me (with the above quote) like all the Hoopsworld folk are pretty convinced we're pulling the trigger on something...
Chris in Charlotte:
Will the Bobcats make any trades before the deadline?

Jason Fleming:
They want to. It sure sounds like Stephen Jackson, Gerald Wallace, and Boris Diaw are all available.

I don't know about Dallas. If they're talking Caron's expiring + Jones, I walk away. They've gotta sweeten our pot this time since we got bent over and taken in the Chandler - DUST chip deal. Houston LAC or even Denver I like more as a trade partner than the Mavs. I like the fact that we are moving Diaw + either Jack or Wallace. I think if one of Jack or Wallace is dealt, we can still fill their shoes with who we get back and sliding around some of our current members. If Wallace goes, we move Henderson into starting role and Jack to the 3. If Jack goes, we still move Henderson to the starting role. As for our PF position, I'm sure a PF is coming back as part of the deal (Craig Smith, Battier, Jordan Hill) so T2 will have some good company and depth to allow him to start.

Getting Courtney Lee from Houston would be wonderful!
I'm a huge Magic fan and I was pissed they traded Lee for Carter. Getting Ryan Anderson made the deal worth it though. Lee can play. He's a scorer and a in your face defender. He can hit the corner 3s which is exactly what you want from a roll player. Also, it seems to me that Charlotte is best when they are pushing the ball. Lee runs the floor great.

I'm hoping we can really work with Denver. Nene was supposed to be on the outs after 'Melo went, but now they're talking extension. There are rumors that Danilo Gallinari is going to be shipped back out before the deadline which I would love to have here. Dude is a 6'10 forward avg'ing 16/5 and is wicked young. Let's go shopping in Denver with Wallace going out to replace Anthony as their SF.
polar...word is Denver is trying to extend Nene now and if they move him it will be after the season...and if Denver is in "rebuild" mode I doubt they'd take Jack or Crash...but more likely Crash but not want to give us anything back...I'd rather not deal with them...

Yeah, saw that about the Nene extension. Too bad our parts don't meet what they want. I'd love to do something like Wallace+Diaw+Nazzy or UPS+draft pick for Nene+ either Gallo or Chandler. Talent-wise, it seems pretty close, but they definitely don't want anything to do with it if they are in rebuild mode.

Well simple, Hendo moves to the starting lineup and Jack moves to the 3. Hendo deserves it in my eyes, he worked so hard under brown and saw nothing. Silas comes around and gives Hendo a chance and IMO i think Hendo has shown he can play. Hendo starts and T-Will backs him up, not a bad situation. Plus T-Will and Hendo can see the court at the same time if Jack needs a break.
Hill/Patterson I dont really care. Neither will be a star but both can be fine back up PF. Id take Hill just because i think he is a better player NOW but Patterson might grow into something better as he develops.

02-22-2011, 02:46 PM
I would take this trade:
Yoa, Budinger, Hill, First (they have 2) for Wallace, Diaw, UPS
We get a huge expiring plus everything else Yoa brings. We would have a whole country behind us even if Yoa doesn't play a single game. Jersey sales, everything would increase because of that simple fact of him just being on our team. Then when you get to the players. I think you might be able to get Twill out of them too, i'm not sure they value him much. But you get two young solid bench players, and you give Jack the chance to start the 3 (which the numbers show is when he is most effective) and Hendo starts at the 2. We would have 5 young players to build around with DJ, Hendo, Budinger, Hill, Thomas and we woudl have cap space with which to do it with and 2 first round draft picks. PLUS I really do think that a team of DJ/Hendo/Jack/Hill (until Tyrus back)/Kwame and a bench of Liv/(carroll/Twill)/Budinger/Najera/Nazr is still talented enough to compete for the playoffs. I like it. Defiantly not a give away in my eyes.

I don't understand the logic behind the preference to move Gerald now. Sure, he's had a rough start but he started coming around before the all-star break. I love Jack, but there's been several games I've hated his play... I just think Jack would be easier to replace becuase he's a volume shooter. Then again, they could be thinking if they move Gerald, they'll move Hendo to the 2 and Jack to the 3.
I'll be sad to see Gerald go.

From the rumors and personal hunch, there are indeed several teams that want Wallace or Jack or both. My guess is that we are being lowballed (See Chandler, Tyson trade) and MJ knows we are in the driver seat. Yes we do need to make a deal for the long-term and playoff run, but the team as constructed is still playoff capable. We hold the chips and need to play with that attitude and don't accept any shit deals just to make deals. What good is having a ton of $$ and financial cap relief, if no player wants to come here and play? I hope Higgins and MJ go in as the lead dog, rather than a follower that takes whatever.

James Johnson, who we were previously interested in, just got traded from the Bulls to the Raptors for a 2nd round pick. If we were moving Diaw, I would've loved to bring Johnson in as his replacement, especially for that price... Really cheap.

I think we make a deal. Silas says we aren't impressed by any offers.....but when it comes down to the deadline and GW or Jack is needed by someone, they will offer up what we want.
get the trade we want or hold steady. jax and crash will be just as valuable if not more valuable this summer or next barring injury. plus, we make a strong run at the playoffs this year with what we have. i am all for trading anyone, just make sure the deals favor us for the present and future.

Yeah, I don't think jack was going anywhere anyway. I still think there is a lot of good that could come from ANY trade with Houston. They have a ton of young guys that we could really use to help us now and in the future. I for one would like to see what Hendo could do starting, and I happen to like the combo of Hendo and Jack. It would be hard to give up Wallace, especially on a night like tonight, but I think we will see a deal.

Golden State is buying out Murphy regardless. He'll be available as a FA but I doubt he'll want to come here regardless.
The more time that goes by, the less likely it seems to me that we're going to make a deal... Really does sound like we were engaged in talks but everybody wants us to give them a Tyson Chandler deal. Ain't gonna happen.
BTW, LOL @ Jack faking an injury in hopes of not being traded.

02-23-2011, 09:44 AM
I bet we make some sort of small move before the deadline. Maybe something like what we did last year for Theo. But myabe a Derrick brown for somebody else type of deal....
I doubt Murphy gives us a sniff if he's bought out...too many of the "contenders" will want him and who can blame him for chasing a ring...
I've found nothing today concerning us and trades...makes me believe we've told teams what it will take to get Crash or Jack and they'll either "pony up" or we remain the same...
...about Nazzy...we only have 10.11 coming off the books if we make no trades...which leaves us in the mid-fifty mil range...two of those players (Nazr and Kwame) are centers...and we'll only have one center (Diop) under contract....with no idea what the cap will be...and the need to have more than one center...I'm pretty sure we can sign both guys (or at least one) back for a reasonable price...but the point...Nazzy has given every indication of wanting to stay and he's a reasonable back-up...plus any player we'd trade him for (more than likely) will have a longer contract...at this point I'd rather go with what we have...including our expiring contracts unless we get a true upgrade or young talent we know will get better...

Eric Pinkus, HoopsWorld again, has his "Deadline for all 30 teams up"...I'll quote his take on us and post the article link:
Charlotte Bobcats - The Bobcats are a borderline playoff team in the East but it's a war of attrition. Just about everyone on the roster is said to be available in one form or another.
Gerald Wallace, Boris Diaw, Stephen Jackson, Nazr Mohammed are all somewhat expendable at this point - although Wallace and Jackson are crucial pieces in whatever it is the Bobcats are trying to do this season.
Wallace isn't cheap and his numbers have been in decline this season. Jackson has a bad temper, is well over 30 and owed two more seasons at about $9.7 million a year.
None of these numbers bode well for making a move unless Charlotte is taking back something unappealing . . . unless a playoff team really thinks Jackson or Wallace can be their final piece.

If Denver wants to reload instead of rebuild
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4vsm5uc
Why for Denver
Use trade exemption to get TT who they wanted before the season. Scorer in Jack is reunited with ray. start felton, smith, jackson, kmart, nene with lawson, chandler, tt off bench
Why for LA
Move Kaman who is a backup for them now for Gallo, a young 3 who was a top ten pick and gives them a nice young core of gordon, gallo, griffin, jordan. gives them a lock of cap space to resign jordan
Why for Charlotte
Move Jack and let Hendo start. I like TT but not at that salary. Kaman can help us and I think we still make the playoffs. Saves MJ a ton of money going forward while keeping young guys like DJ and Hendo, and the face of the franchise Wallace. Denver might rather have Wallace, which would hurt since he is the franchise: I would want a pick back then
Im not saying I would RATHER have this team, but if MJ wants to save money(wants to dump wallace for nothing from what I hear), this is an option. We need to develop our young guys and need flexability going into the new CBA. Diaw and Kaman would be nice expirings in 2012
Thoughts?

Crash and Boris for a TPE. yeah, this will definitely increase our chances to make the playoffs
man, tomorrow afternoon will be pure hell on earth. remember last year? I almost had a heart attack when all those horrible trade rumour popped out
I just posted this to the Gerald thread...Ingram speculating but I think Crash is gone somewhere...
As we reported yesterday, the Denver Nuggets' trade with the New York Knicks is much bigger than most seemed to realize at first. In addition to the draft picks and young talent they fleeced from the Knicks, the Nuggets wound up with a $17.12 trade exception (http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=18864).Think about that for a second. The Nuggets can now acquire a player or players who make up to $17.12 million and they don't have to send anything back. Now you're talking about acquiring a significant piece from a team that simply wants to cut salary . . .a team like the Charlotte Bobcats.
As unfortunate as it is, it seems the Bobcats are going to throw in the towel this season and deal either Stephen Jackson or Gerald Wallace before tomorrow's deadline. Wallace is the preferable move, as Gerald Henderson has shown tremendous promise this season and could step into that starting spot. Henderson is no Wallace, but with more experience he could be a factor for them down the road. Charlotte is looking to cut salary, and would like to use one of their stars as a way to unload Boris Diaw's contract.
It's not a stretch to put these two stories together.
Let's say the Nuggets swung a deal that landed Wallace in town, with or without Diaw. Now your lineup features Raymond Felton and Wallace, the core of last year's first-ever playoff team in Charlotte, but with a much better supporting cast of Kenyon Martin, Nene, J.R. Smith, Arron Afflalo, Wilson Chandler and, perhaps, Danilo Gallinari (who may be traded again). At the very least, that's a better Nuggets team than the one that last took the court with Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups in the lineup. It might even be a team that could challenge the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs for Western Conference supremacy.
The Cleveland Cavaliers also have a significant trade exception that they are actively seeking to use, and they will definitely take a long, hard look at Gerald Wallace, in particular. The Nuggets are going to have competition, and it's unclear just how aggressive they are going to be over the next 24 hours as the deadline approaches. They've already made a big splash with the Carmelo trade, but they're not a sure-fire playoff team as things stand. Adding Gerald Wallace to the mix would absolutely put them back in the playoff discussion, and it might even put them over the top.The Houston Rockets are also very interested in Wallace, and the Dallas Mavericks have had some discussion about adding Stephen Jackson.
Stay tuned . . .

I would have to change my shorts if we got Josh Smith.
if the report says "portland is pushing hard" and "blazers believe he could stay in the east" this means a bidding war of sorts. no way dj is included unless batum and/or matthews and a pick come back. relax guys, mj, who so far seems all about keeping people interested in the team and fielding a competitive product, is actually taking his time and shopping for deals. this is a good thing.

I think there will be some activity today although the Cats might not be involved (but don't count it out). The top four teams in each conference stayed quiet yesterday even though all of them (except SA) have been interested in making trades to improve/tweak their roster for a playoff run. OKC has hinted that Jeff Green is on the market but they want another big to replace him of equal value (good luck with that). Chicago, Boston, Dallas and Orlando might make a move. Miami and LA do not appear to have much to offer but they could be a third team in a big trade.
I think the Rockets will deal with Memphis...not sure much more will happen than that...
I have doubts (unless we get an actual "offer") Crash or Jack goes...I kinda expected "Doris" would be gone but that even looks doubtful...

hey, i didn't know flip was "special". must be a really mild handicap, you can barely tell.
If we're not going to use D. Brown, or he's not in our future plans, I'd ship him to Boston for the first and Daniels expiring...problem is it would not work under the cap...oh well...
"The Boston Celtics are said to be dangling Nate Robinson and or the ending contract of Marquis Daniels in efforts to acquire another wing player. The Celtics have offered up a first round pick, but based on how the Celtics have been playing not sure getting the 28th, 29th or 30th pick in this draft is really an asset."

The bobcats need to blow up or they will stay in mediocrity forever...They need to get rid of everyone and try and build with Tyrus, Dj, and baby G-force (gerald henderson)...keeping derrick brown would be nice too...they need picks and expiring contracts and start all over. MJ needs to pull the trigger on some trades and stop paying these mediocre players like they are superstars
